And the 32 gig version can be got around $374.17 with shipping

    http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/google-nexus-5x-4g-3…

  • /Cries as I paid about $650 for my 32gb when the 5x came out…. Do not regret it though.

  • Difference between this and the xiomi phones?

    • +4

this has band 28 so you get full 4G support, the xioami don't so you get cattle class 4G on 1800mhz.

Xioamis looked great when other phones with 1080p screens cost $700, but those days are gone, lots of sub $400 phones with 1080p AND band 28 now.

      • +7

Xiaomi released a Taiwanese version which has B28 now.

But the camera on this Nexus is excellent. Takes pretty good low-light photos.

        • Can you provide website for Xiaomi in Taiwanese version which has B28 please?

    • +3

With a Xiaomi you can buy a phone with 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM and large battery for ~$80 less after cash back. But it's a matter of personal preference. Personally I wouldn't buy a 2GB phone nowadays. The advance of band 28 has never bothered me. I get >30Mbps in the CBD.

      • +1

Nothing wrong with 2gb ram here.
if your handset hasnt been calibrated to use the full ram set correctly it dosnt matter how much ram you put in it it still will have lag.

    • +4

Nexus devices recieve Android updates as soon as they ship.

All other devices recieve them later (weeks, months, years) or not at all so they are open to the many attacks mounted against Android devices including stealing your money.

    • +2

You get pure Android, latest version, and immediate updates as soon as they are written. With a cheap Chinese phone you may never get an upgrade. You will also never get a compatibility issue with a Google phone.

  • +5

    I just bought this phone.

I also traded in my old 16gb nexus 5 for $120 (perfect condition). Also brought a spigen ultra hybrid case for $16.99

    $312-$120+$16.99 = $208.99 for 16GB Nexus 5X with Spigen Case

    • +3

That's fantastic Barry, but more importantly how is the new phone?

      • +1

I ordered it tonight…. so will know in a few weeks

    • A used Nexus 5 is worth at least $180…

      • So I could of knocked off a few more bucks then and $208 could of been like…. 150

    • Where did you trade it in? $120 for a 16GB N5 sounds pretty good now.

    • Where did you trade in your Nexus 5 ?? nevermind

  • -1

hmm get one for my 9 year old and put his xioami on gumtree or Ebay ????

  • -2

    Grey import, right?

How is the warranty for eglobal? Is it at least on par with Kogan? I say that because surprisingly, I've had pretty good warranty and customer service with Kogan for phones I've bought from them.

    • +9

eglobal warranty support is horrendous. I bought a waterproof camera from them that leaked whilst snorkelling and of course died whilst still well within warranty period. They obfuscated continually, eventually had to return it to Hong Kong then they stonewalled me saying it was operator error and sent a bodgied up image of a damaged seal (different colour even to mine). Ended up doing what I should have done initially and bought another (brand) form Officeworks. eglobal are a dishonest bunch of lieing ripoff merchants in my opinion so steer well clear of them.

      • +1

See my post below. My experience has been horrendous.

    • +1

It varies depending on the situation because my experiences with them has been overall positive.

Purchased a 16gb 5x off them a couple months ago. Arrived DOA with a flickering screen. Contacted them through some ticketing system with pics and a video clip. Once approved, they sent a courier to pick up the phone so no out of pocket expenses. Although it took a bit of time, the phone got sent over to hk to their specialist. Soon after, received my full refund.

End of the day, I think it depends on how you interact with them.

      • I have been nothing buy polite with my RMA. Still, they are dragging their feet. I think it depends on WHO is doing the RMA. The person in charge of mine is inept.

    • I too have had good experience with Kogan and warranties (had two Xperia Z's, then wife's and mine. Both had screens crack on their own (Xperia issue)… a few months apart. They examined both phones (via sending them to them prepaid, no cost to me)… her phone the agreed it was that issue, and issued a refund. Mine they said it looked like I dropped it (I hadn't, but the cracks radiated from one point, so I guess fair enough), they sent it back to me no charge).

My ex dropped her phone in the toilet a week back, we found this eglobaldigitalcameras site as well… couldn't find too much about it, took the punt. She got her phone within 2 days. I was pretty blown away by that speed of delivery!

Haven't had to deal with warranty issue yet though.

  • how dose this compare to LG G3?

    • +1

5x base model is G4 so should be better than g3

  • +4

The killer - no microSD slot.

16GB isn't enough for most people without a microSD slot. Particularly who this phone would appeal to. So much to like otherwise, particularly at this price. Google thinks everyone always has an internet connection and massive data quotas.

    • +7

I'm not most people, but I get by just fine with my 16gb Nexus 5x, 3gb mobile data per month and wifi.

I take a lot of photos and listen to a lot of music and podcasts. Google's Photos app has me covered - photos/video are uploaded to the cloud when my phone is on wifi. I use Play Music, have about 25 albums saved locally at the moment, I just rotate them as necessary. I use YouTube Red to save podcasts, and delete them once listened to.

I still have about 3gb of storage free. I don't feel that I am restricted in anyway by having 16gb (10.67gb) of storage. Not everyone will feel the same, but for me it's been perfectly fine (my previous 5 or 6 phones were minimum 32gb).

      • +2

One of the reasons you can still be happy with the 16GB is the lack of bloatware in the phone.

I am not sure how the latest version of Android go when the start to get low on storage. Previous version would really slow down if you had less free storage than you had RAM (in that case it was normally 1GB). If the situation is the same, then it would be 2GB on these.

      • +4

        google rocks the cloud services!

      • +1

I like the way you do things aja12, that's what I do too, but there's still a place for more memory. Storing locally from a music streaming service is great, but when you decide you want to do the same for google play movies, that's when you'll start feeling the pinch.

    • +2

Yeap 16gb are definitely too low.
"Essential" apps like Chrome/FB have bloated to more than 100MB with their most recent versions. That's not taking into account of their data and cache size. You require 500mb storage for each of them to be functional.
Unfortunately these moderns apps will require more and more storage with each later iteration.
And we are just talking about apps..

    • +1

16gb no worries for me. I've had this phone for the last 3 years and just ordered my next phone with 16gb. Infact, currently only using 6.49gb of the 12gb. We all have different needs I prefer lower storage with other areas within the phone that is great. I have 120 apps and currently 100 or so pics but usually delete pics after awhile and upload them to my cloud space.

    • +4

16GB isn't enough for most people without a microSD slot.

      This isn't an iPhone.

For most, 16GB on a Nexus 5X is more than enough for all but the heavy users. There's the 32GB file plus the availability of Google Drive helps with storage as well. I'm loving my 32GB version

      • I consider myself a light user, and 16gb wouldn't be enough for me. I use google photos and google play music, so no local photos or music saved on my phone. Apps alone is taking up 11gb of my OnePlus one's 64gb. I would go over the 16gb with offline copies from google play music and pocketcasts. I could make 16gb work if I really wanted, but the effort would outweigh the convenience of paying more for the 32gb model

        • +4

If you have 11GB of apps, you are not a light user

    • +2

Killer for you perhaps, but not everyone requires a large amount of internal storage on a smartphone.

  • Similarly to aja12, I make use of Google Photos and upload/delete local storage. However, I cannot stand that when I unplug the power source once the phone is 'fully' charged, within <1 minute immediately 5% of battery has been consumed.

How is the battery life on this beauty?

    • That sounds like Battery degradation and or calibration issue.

    • Similarly to aja12, I make use of Google Photos and upload/delete local storage. However, I cannot stand that when I unplug the power source once the phone is 'fully' charged, within <1 minute immediately 5% of battery has been consumed.

I got a Nexus 5X this week and noticed that too. That said, I'm getting over a day's use on mine but I'm a light user. It seems to drop quickly to 75% then just stays there forever before dropping again.

  • I am on Android Nougat beta release right now. It is buttery smooth and love the split screen and hot toggle options. All the apps now work. I would recommend joining the Nougat beta program

  • would this and the 32gb work on the optus network? 3G and 4G?

  • +1

Should i buy from eglobal or kogan? I want good warranty when the phone has a problem and better customer service

    • +1

I am wondering the same thing i have heard bad stories about both. But Kogan you wont have to ship back to Hong Kong.

    • +2

If you're worried about warranty you should probably just buy it direct from Google or one of their resellers.

      • I am also worried about money too, hence why I am on the ozbargain forum durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….. lower jaw cramp excess, saliva dripage

  • Anyone have this phone?
    Happy with it?
Would you compare it to a Samsung S6 or S7?
    Good at taking photos?

  • Got mine just the other day. Cracking phone. I don't really know why the 6P exists.

    • +4

Because the 6P is also a cracking phone and has a bigger screen in a thinner aluminium body, has a faster CPU, more RAM and the battery lasts longer. It's just a better phone. The 5x is also a good phone if you want something a little smaller and cheaper.

  • +2

Is this the H791 with band 28?

    • +2

FFS another seller that won't put the model number of what they are trying to sell.
It has band 28 'ticked' but I've been in IT way too long to just blindly accept that.

  • Just wondering how does this fone compare to a Sony z3 I'm torn between the one to get

  • +1

    Dicksmith has 32gb $399 + shipping and 16gb for $339 + shipping. Are they local stock?….
Edit: Never mind, shipping was $23…I guess it is grey import…

    • +2

Dick Smith is now Kogan. Chances are that is the H790 without band 28

      • Aah, ok. Thanks for clarifying that. Haven't been following dickies doings since they went bust…

    • I have a Xiaomi phone with no band 28 and have no issues. On optus
Can't really see why it deters people

  • +3

Think twice about buying from them.

I am still going with my RMA. Been over 10 weeks now. Recently, I hadn't heard from them for over ten days. I opened a papal dispute and immediately got a response saying they could fix my phone in 4-6 weeks BUT I have to close my Paypal dispute first. Interesting, considering they said they couldn't fix my phone.

They are quick with the sale but if something goes wrong then you will have a mixed bag of an experience with RMA. Some people say they are great. Many say they are crap.

My experience is the latter. They aren't particularly following their own terms and conditions. Seems that they make it up as they go.

As far as I am concerned now, it is in Paypal's hands. I hope it gets resolved. I will not be buying grey from them again.

      kogan?

        Eglobaldigital.

  • Is this the H791 with band 28?

    • +1

Can anyone who has bought this from eGlobal confirm this?

    • Got the 32GB Nexus 5X and it is the H791 model

  • +2

how is this more than $200 cheaper than the Google store?

  • -4

16GB should be illegal as the base model for non sdcard supported phones.

It's 2016, 32GB should be the base model.

They are only doing this to further ripoff people on memory modules. It doesn't cost much if at all compare to Google or Apple charging for the next step up. Not to mention real usable space is after OS usage and default apps are installed.

In comparison, its as bad as PS Vita memory cards.

Hence I told myself I would never ever buy a non sdcard supported phone.

    • +4

16GB is enough for the casual user who uses the phone as a phone / web browser as opposed to a media player / video gaming / entertainment.

I have the LG G2 16GB (no SD) and have already learned to cope with it's limitations. This is also the very first device I've owned that does not have an SD card slot — heck, even my old Nokia 6288 had one and it wasn't even a smartphone.

To make the 16GB stretch you'd ideally have to:

      1. Not play any mobile games that might take a lot of space when fully installed. How do I pass the time? just browse Ozbargain!
      2. Shoot video at 720p and take photos at less than 3.2 megapixels resolution (it's a waste of a good camera)
      3. Have a really big data plan so you can store your stuff online. I have 1.8GB a month but I actually mostly use it on streaming music and browsing Reddit…
      4. And generally speaking, if you are just content with internet access, premium streaming services and you don't need to game or have a huge Mp3 collection, 16GB of local storage is in fact usable in 2016 and beyond.

Though I must say my next mobile phone will NOT be a 16GB one :) Having to worry about space management all the time is something so old-skool nowadays.

      • +1

Agree with you. You have to manage very well. Not everyone can do it

        • Most can do it if they Had To, but don't Want to if they have the choice/larger memory option.

  • I wonder how long until it can be had for under $300

  • OK I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 32GB version from eGlobal but have a couple of questions before I do. Are the eGlobal stock the H791 models with band 28? Anyone with eGlobal experience found it worthwhile paying the extra $10 for insured express delivery service?

  • +1

A few folks were asking about band 28. I messaged them and got a quick reply:

Thank you for your message. After checking with our stock team, we can confirm the Nexus 5X (H791 version) will able to use on Band 28 frequency on all major network such as Telstra and Vodafone. The following networks will not able to support the band 28 frequncy : Woolworths Connect, PennyTel, Lycamobile, Lebara ,Hello Mobile, Gotalk, ClubTelco

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    • +1

Thanks Barry, just completed my order for the 32GB White Nexus 5X which has everything I need.

  • Ordered the phone. I guess the question now is 1- What charger should I use and 2- What USB-C cable should I buy?

  • +2

@fiend Google site says you get the following:

    Nexus 5X phone
    USB Type-C to Type-C cable
    USB Type-C 15W (5V/3A) charger
    SIM ejection tool
    Quick start guide
    Safety and Warranty information

So you have your charger, thats if you plug it into the wall, not sure about charging from computer though.

  • Ah ty Barry. I'll need a usbA - usbC cable just for work/car.etc

  • Has anyone received theirs yet or even got shipping info?

    • yep got mine today. Its not charging. So doing lots of googling before rma

      • +1

Its fixed, after much googling and trying things and whatnot, I had to go into recovery mode and restart bootloader
        phew.

        • Sounds like a pain. Still waiting for dispatch on mine.

        • +1

Yeh it was, thankfully it came good. So I ordered the phone last Friday night and it arrived today fyi. Decent shipping time.

    • I have had no shipping info come through myself.

      • You should if got an email with tracking nos. I would contact eglobal.( Also check your account on their site)

        • I ended up cancelling and buying one on gumtree for alot less. Love the phone but it does lag a bit and battery life isn't great but it will last me through most of the day.

        • Checkout was being glitchy so I checked out as a guest. Kept clearing my cart when I logged into my account. Payment has gone through but their helpdesk won't let me send a message without an order number (on mobile at least). Getting that regretful feeling..

    • Ordered mine last Monday night at 6pm, received email early next morning that it was dispatched and it was delivered 11am last Thursday morning. Just opened now and setting it up, installing a series of Android security updates. I had to wait for cover and screen protector from AU Ebay shop which only arrived yesterday. As noted above I can confirm it is the H791 model.

      • So.. I finally got in contact with them and they tell me my order has been delayed due to the 16gig black 5x being unavailable until the end of the week. I ordered the 16gig black and the 32gig white.

I asked why would I bother paying for 3 day shipping if it takes 2 weeks from order for it to ship. Then I asked why I hadn't been advised of a delay.

I just got home to see that my order had magically shipped…. go figure. It doesn't give me much confidence with this order but we'll see.

        • Terrible communication isn't it.
          Keep us informed.
