Picked up one of these from Target over the weekend and so far it's done well for the price I paid ($59).

The pods can be purchased for around $8.50 for a box of 16 pods, but as this machine does not use/require a milk frother, some boxes contain half powdered milk pods and half coffee/chocolate/whatever pods. A 'starter' box of six pods is included with the machine.

The MiniMe version is also on clearance here for $63.

You may have to call stores in your area to confirm stock, but my local BigW (Burwood East) had a stack of the Piccolini machines.

  • Noob question— can this make a 'latte' or similar? oh and can i buy different branded pods or is it a loss leader proprietary thing where u have to use special (expensive) pods?

Yes in 1 capsule - Cafe au lait.

About $8.49 for 16pk, so $0.53 a capsule/drink (can get capsules for $7.50 for 16pk from Officeworks Bulk Buy however).

You can only buy their pods yes, no generic ones.

      • Awesome thanks! Think of getting one for my wife. How does this compare with say a Kogan one that takes generic pods?

      • Or the aldi coffee machine? what should i do :0

        • pretty sure Aldi have their 60 days return policy so you can give it a shot and return if you don't like

The pods for those types of machines are cheaper, but they are normal black coffee pods, if you wanted to make a latte or similar you would also need a milk frother and milk. These dolce gustos are all in one coffee and powdered milk pods so it's just 1 button press to make a coffee - no milk frother/milk required.

I'd say more people like a traditional coffee (nespresso, lavazza etc) with a milk frother as far as taste goes and the pods are cheaper/more variety (without factoring in cost of milk). However I like the Dolce Gusto as it's quick and easy and happy with $0.50 for a coffee and enjoy the taste, but I guess it depends on the person and what they prefer/are after.

        • @hamza23: Thanks for the great reply mate.

          @hamza23:

Exactly why I like it, it's very quick and easy to use.

Also, the time it takes to clean up after use is minimal as the pod tray is tiny and only needs a rinse before it's next use.

I've had my Dolce Gusto Circulo machine for about 3 years, and it's great. I'm useless at making coffee so the fact that these have the milk and coffee all measured out in a pod is great for me. Some people don't like the taste of the milk pods as they're powdered milk, I don't mind them. The pods are expensive compared to other brands. There is only one place I know of that makes compatible pods for this machine https://espressoland.com.au/dolce-gusto-compatible however they are coffee only pods. If you're a Costco member you can get 3 boxes of pods for around $23 (from memory) in either latte or cappuccino. You can also buy in bulk direct from the Dolce Gusto website and they usually have a discount for delivery. If you're good at making coffee, you could easily buy the coffee only pods from Espressoland and a cheap milk frother which would be even cheaper in the long run.

Prefer the Aldi or Caffitaly over this.
The powdered milk is horrible - I don't know why you would drink powdered milk when we live in Australia and have great real milk.

    • I think the choice of a 50/50 powdered milk & coffee pod comes down to convenience, nothing else.

I bought this on the last Target sale for $60 so it's nice to see it get to $49, great quick to make a cup, quicker to clean up. Coffee pods aren't that costly (compared to buying at a shop) and taste just the same when you get it down pat with your ratios. Have had Lungo boxes for $3 a BigW and they were nice (akin to an instant coffee). I pretty much only buy the Ristretto Ardenza (blue) or Espresso Intenso (black striped box) use own milk obviously. So stronger the coffee flavour the better it seems to me.

As said it can only take Nespresso Pods. I've opened a few pods to try other coffee grounds but have yet to try it. After buying so many disposable coffee cups, the missus has finally gotten herself a good cup for the car/work.

Capsule coffee causes cancer, please do some research it's not good for you. Lots of trace carcinogens were found based on research on capsule based coffee

Yeah, Elvis told me that when he confessed to being a CIA agent who killed JFK. He did it because the aliens told him to.
