Better hurry if you want to upgrade to Windows 10 for free…

    • +1

No rush, I'll wait untl I get paid to upgrade

      • +1

It's much better than Windows 8

      • -1

What incentive would be sufficient to get you to upgrade? (In other words, what is your personal telemetry information worth?)

  • +8

    down from $2399

    Lol

    • most places are selling it for $1800-$1900

      • $1100 on static ice

    • +2

Yeah typical Grays tactic, it's not even todays RRP, it's usually the exorbitant ORP or the "Original Recommended Price" that it was when first released.

  • Is RAM upgradable?

    • +1

These have 2 DIMM slots, so yes, there's an empty slot

  • +7

Pretty sure the RRP is way overstated. It's priced about right… Maybe even a little high…

  • +1

Looks like it is previous generation, G2 version, review
    Weight: Starting at 1.71 kg

  • Wow, that seems like a lot for the specs. Even the new price.

    • +2

Compared to what? Can you suggest a better option? Approx $815 seems pretty reasonable for a machine with specs of this level to me?
Genuinely interested in an answer as have a Friend in the market for something that is almost exactly in line with these specs.

      • This one will be only $639 after discount

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-5000-Series-Lapt…

Much better specs and a lot cheaper.

Or can get this one for $599: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-5000-Core-i5-620…

What your missing is the fact that weight is a significant price driver when it comes to laptops and those are a lot heavier.

If you don't care about weight than the Dell is a good option, but obviously a lot of people do and there is no escaping that lighter laptops are more expensive. It's not all about performance specs.

Also arent elitebook business grade products? If so they're probably better build quality than the Inspiron. Worth looking into if tossing up between the Elitebook and Inspiron.

        • Not for the screen.

        • @CheapBrah: My answer was addressed to Raydragon who enquired about a laptop suggestions with "the specs of this level".
It's quite clear that Inspiron has much better specs and lower price.
As for the build quality - yes, elitebook is very good. However, Dell makes very reliable products. And considering that you would want an upgrade in about 3 or 4 years anyway, in my view, it makes sense to buy cheaper product with higher specs.
Furthermore, you will get 1 year warranty from Dell plus can get up to 2 extra years from your credit card.

        • @bob19: thanks but was specifically looking at 14 inch options, sorry I wasn't clearer. The dells are reasonable enough machines but am after the smaller sized unit (with a half decent screen resolution)

        • @bob19: I think you are not being fair when you clump one laptop that passed MIL-STD 810G and one that probably haven't gone through that into just simply "reliable". You don't buy these for spec might sound like a poor way to justify the price tag, but when you need something that needs to work that's when these shine.

From what I've seen with Elitebook (which I do admit was a long time ago, it was Core2Duo + Vista), these things can take a beating and is bloody reliable. It lasted me 2 years? 3? and it is the only one that would still work flawlessly right now. Other laptops I've owned at least had a problem or two popping up during its lifespan, Elitebook I think was the only one that I had no problems with (other than Vista, of course). That's kinda impressive when I was a clumsy high school student (I think I gave it enough physical damages to damage the HDD, which still was working fine), was using the laptop like a desktop more or less.

It's HP's flagship business notebook. You pay for more than just specs. Elitebooks are indestructible.

      • +1

        it's HP 2015 flagship notebook……
this does not have the skylake processor. you can get a dell 14" latitude with skylake chipset for that money from the dell op shop

  • -1

Wow: "down from $2399"!!! More like down from $829 according to the specs…

    • +1

It's HP's flagship business notebook. You pay for more than just specs. Elitebooks are indestructible.

I agree, the RRP is incorrect and this is the 2015 model.

      • -1

Who needs indestructible laptop? In a couple of years it will date anyway and you would want to update it. Even now its specs are quite dated.

        • +1

Kids. My T series notebooks, Dell latitude's and hp elitebooks are the only notebooks that survive for more than a year in my house full of 4 kids.

Also, I carry my laptop to and from work everyday. On a good day, I'm at a desk. On a normal day, I'm in a Data Centre, so the notebook is on the floor, in a cabinet or in a myriad of other places where power position and cable routing are sub optimal. A normal laptop would die very quickly, even if I'm being super careful.

  • Anyone who is just commenting based on the specs have no real clue about what the HP elitebook range is all about. Obviously never worked in a corporate environment or bought one for yourself.
The RRP is incorrect, but the price is fair. Comparable to a Dell Latitude 14.

I have this exact machine (albeit no touch 900p variant). Very solid for day to day use. Been using it for 6 mths or so.

The bottom panel clips in and makes a squeaking noise sometimes if it it's not seated properly.

Another thing that irks me is the m2 slot only takes 42mm cards. There's room for a 60mm card but no screw hole (can solder one on if keen). I ended up just using 2.5" ssd so it's a moot point but for those that want nvme, it limits your options considerably.

Also the screen isn't IPS or a very bad IPS. Not terrible but it's calibrated pretty horribly out of the box.

At this price, would strongly recommend. This is a business grade machine (and top of the line at that).

Mine was upgraded with a Samsung 512GB 850 pro and 16GB of ram and works well but the CPU seems to let it down if doing heavy stuff (vmware etc) but this is true of all U series CPU's. The keyboard takes getting used to if coming from Dell or ThinkPad.

It compared well with my latitude 7460 but I'd take the Dell over this if given the choice (nicer keyboard and screen)

Edit: ymmv but my network port broke (actual plastic broke on the bottom jaw.) after about 3 Months of usage. I'm a network engineer and use it very heavily but was pretty pissed that it would break after only 3 mths. Was eventually fixed under warranty after they refused and me escalating. Again ymmv.

    • Thanks for the great info. Wonder if this touchscreen on model posted here is IPS or at least wider viewing angles and nicer picture?

True about the U series cpu's, a 6th gen i5 U is only marginally quicker, although graphics is improved if that is what your after.

Had a look at the Dell Latitude 7000 range, nice solid machines, but pricy compared to this starting around $3000 online. Makes this HP Elitebook a great price for this quality.

      • +1

IIRC, the elitebooks dont have IPS, regardless of type. The 1080p one is better but it still falls short of the Dell in my opinion.

I bought a 7460 with FHD, 6th gen i7, 16GB and 256SSD for 1479 from the refurb store. Was a cracking price but I have seen a few pop up since then.

For $800, this is a really good buy.

        • @sabaramo:

          comparing touch vs non-touch?

        • +1

          @davidl2:

Yes it was more of a comment to ozhunter86 who was saying that the latitude's were going for 3k.

Obviously, specs don't match 100% - in some cases the Dell is better - but it's the same sort of machine (business grade 14")

I still think this hp is a cracker price.

Edit- the Dell has better battery, CPU, ram and arguably screen, keyboard and build quality. It also has an HDMI port (hp has vga and dp) and arguably better support.
