After having Ford make me sign a $270 estimate on a fancy iPad for a basic service and then pulling enough bullshit stories to charge me $508 when it came time to pickup I'LL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN. Thanks to the OP for the voucher let's hope I can find an honest local mechanic.

  • "Fixed Price" .. but they wont tell you what it is. You have to give them all the information and they'll phone you.

    • You can simply enter some dummy information and they will still list the quotes rightaway.

I tried these guys about two weeks ago. They claimed the cheapest near me was NRMA Motorserve, who, after calling a few other places in the same part of town, turned out to be around $60 more expensive for a minor service. I don't have a huge problem with that since it's just a free quote, but I wasn't a big fan of the relentless calls to my mobile and spam emails I got after giving them my details.

For a fixed price, they will replace good parts from your car with old parts. They will make sure you come back 'soon' for a variable price fix.

  • fixedpricecarservice does not own or operate any of the mechanics.
It just provides a way for us to find out local mechanics and their "slightly" inflated pricing.
For example, I used fixedpricecarservice to find a local mechanics for $166 for a basic service.
I went to that local mechanics without going through fixedpricecarservice, I only got charged $154.
fixedpricecarservice uses some incentives to lure you into using their search services.
For example, $100 off for 4 tyres, 6 month roadside assistance, etc.
In the long run, you pay more by going through them. Because they are going to charge the mechanics and the mechanics will pass the cost down to you.

  • Pro:
    1. let you find the cheapest mechanics around you
    2. some incentives when you use them
    Con:
    1. it costs around 10% more by going through them compared to going to the mechanics directly
    * 10% off means that they do not charge commission to the mechanics, in the hope that they get you to use their services in the future
