That's the auto rewind. This is manual wind.

      • Ah, my bad.

    • I have this one. The Unit build quality is subpar. My folks one won't wind up all the way. You basically have to be very gentle with it. Other than that it does its job but I probably won't buy a replacement if mine breaks.

LAdder was heaps cheaper before, what happened?

Yeah, I paid mine $25 on old deal.

Well, title didn't claim it is best deal ever.

$29 is okay if you need one now.

Just like your chain of hardware stores…

Just confirmed with Masters that the Hozelock is UV stabilised

This is not cheap at all. No bargain here.

    • +5

Ok I am listening. Where is it cheaper as I want one.

        • +1

And that was the one people were giving bad reviews for.

  • Damn manual winding. Anyone have an opinion if this is better than auto winding?

    • Really depends if you like doing it with your hand or by some other automated method.

^ Captain obvious here. Thanks for adding no value whatsoever.

Personally, unless you buy a pretty dear auto-retracting model, they tend to get jammed and kinked requiring you to do half the job manually anyway. Also, once the spring is gone, you can pretty much just chuck it out and kiss the $200+ you spent for the privilege of auto-rewind goodbye. It's useless.

In my experience, have had 2 auto retractors fail and am now on a manual one which, although may take me 30 secs to retract, gives me the peace of mind that I'll still be able to do so in 10yrs time.

Much simpler mechanically, fewer things to break.

If you buy a decent retractable hose instead of some $20 cheapie you won't have a problem, I have multiple hozelock units that are 14+ years old and they still work like new. I've also had some other unit that have lasted 4-5 years before being retired for other reasons.

Hozelock has spare parts available and a long 5 year warranty.

I suppose you ride a bike and don't own a car using that logic. Anyway enjoy cranking by hand, others will enjoy automatic cranking.

A Hand job is not my preferred method

      • If you make your hand go numb it feels like someone else is doing it.

    • I Have a auto winding one - was great for a year or so - then dirt got into it through everyday use - now it only winds up halfway before it gets jammed… wouldnt recommend it.

I work at many different houses and have used plenty of high-end auto winders, wouldn't use one if I were given it. I use a hose hanger at my house and would confidently say that it is less hassle and overall no slower than a winder. Save the money on the reel but by a decent hose and fittings.

I like manual reel, other than auto reel.

Whatever happened to bolting an old 12-slotter to your garage wall?

    • +7

Sadly went the same way as the Tyre Swan.

      • Someone needs to bring them back. Maybe we need a forum where we can compare our swans in all their glory

  • 12mm hose.

Bought one to replace my 10m $10 cheapie thats somehow gotten hard and cant unkink it with a hard wave flick.

    • I believe the hardness over time is caused by sun damage. If you want to avoid this (but have to pay a bit more) look for the UV protected/stabilised options

  • I cancelled an order with Master. and now after 2 weeks, they still have not sent me the refunded money. WTF!

    • +2

A quick chat online will resolve this.

  • So is it worth getting? Rrp is $149 or something g

    Ripoff of Hoselink much…?

      Ripoff of Hoselink much…?

Hozelock has been around since 1955 in the UK.

Hoselink has a varied history and have been around for around 15 years (quite a number of changes over the years and various models etc).

To suggest that Hozelock has copied Hoselink when the reverse is true is utterly absurd.

Sorry. I didn't want to take the time to search up the two companies on my NBN-less net. My apologies for leaving you sleepless for however many nights.

You made a claim that was utterly false that you now admit you made up without any research. So you're the type of person that starts all sorts of rumours just because you feel like it.

So for $59, it includes 25m of hose? excellent!

  • I have the a different style hozelink reel, though the hose looks the same. The hose is a POS. Kinks, flattens out and knots up, gets pin holes in it. The hoses is Utter junk. Reel is ok though.

  • thanks, looks good.

  • I have a different issue with these hose retractors. The hose, which has a reduced bore, significantly reduces water pressure compared to a normal garden house on the same tap .. :-( .. !!

Before I got one last night the Masters guy kept on telling me its a standard 12mm opening. I said I read a review it was 10mm but the guy argued it definitely was 12mm. He even said it was stupid they'd make 10mm coz they work with standard sizing. So I was convinced and bought one. This is important to me cos of my garden pumps pressure. I need a high flow hose with 12mm-18mm bore.

Following your post, this morning i got my micrometre and measured and it is 10mm hole.

I'll be returning these and will get the ordinary cart reel type (without the enclosure) for half the price with the 14mm bore.

      • +1

Make sure you find that Masters guy and tell him he sucks!!!

  • +4

IMO, save the money and get a better hose instead.

  • its only saving of $5 on the ladder though …quite lame..

There were still plenty left at Masters Belmont when I purchased one this morning. I bought one because of the price and because my previous auto-wind hose unit broke.

    First impressions:

Some basic assembly is required with this unit, you can't simply plug it in and use right away.

It's simple to use with not many parts so there's less chance of something breaking. My previous unit was good for about a year until the auto wind mechanism begin to give, then the hose never retracted fully and eventually broke altogether.

To be honest, I prefer this manual hose unit over an auto-rewind. It is easier to unwind the hose (in the auto-wind you had to unwind the hose correctly otherwise it would try to retract) and winding it back up is easy and straight-forward. There's also plenty of space inside the casing so the hose won't get tangled which was another issue with the previous unit.

This cost $59 and comes with a 5 year warranty. I would recommend this product, I think it's a really good deal.

    • Hi mate, was this Masters Belmont in Perth? Because my searching leads me to no Masters in Belmont..

      • Apologies, I meant Masters in Bays water.
