    • Yeah, would be good to know if conditions are retrospective. Hopefully they are not, but probably are.

      • +1

Problem is, you dont know until you have already eaten and ready to pay at the end….

        • I'm sure you can ask them before you order. Or they might answer on Facebook etc. But still a hassle.

    • +4

No chance. Show them THAT email and ID as requested. It has the T&Cs clearly on the email, not linked elsewhere (where they could change them as they please). They're just restricting from now on to stop the stampedes. Genius Marketing department Vapiano! Guess "history" is just a word.

    • No free pizza today. Sad.

      • You tried? It's 9am!

        • +1

No, I didn't tried at 9 but I have done that now. And it was woking! I got my free pasta.

    • +2

The t&c with original 2 free meal email should still apply as it is stated within those voucher emails.
It's just the new emails that the changed t&c should apply to.

      • Can anyone confirm this?

        • +2

I've just finished a meal on 2nd voucher ($17 off). No issues & can use those first 2 vouchers until Thursday night, as per email t&c. Staff confirmed that tonight.

        • @Infidel: cheers!

  • Thanks OP, just received email, but… "Offer is only available 2pm to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday"? Gonna steak out of office for my free pizza :(

Btw, pizza or pasta, what would you recommend?

    • Staying home, saving yourself trouble (seriously).

      • Just found that they're asking for REAL name and will be checking ID, didn't notice that and just put a random name when registering… so no free pizzas for me now :(

  • +6

The old voucher is until 18 august, why can't we just use that everyday?

  • +1

Yeah this deal is getting out of hand what with all the revisions to the conditions yet at the same time not checking IDs or anything to ensure they only serve you once per voucher.
I went on the first day of the promo and was told I could pay the difference by the first manager. Had a nice $17 spag carbonara and was told by the second manager that the voucher is only for items $17 and less and anything more expensive you have to pay for it in full however for that night he let me off.

Like the other posters I'm wondering if we can still walk in with the first or second voucher that was sent out without the restrictive 2-4pm clause.

  • +7

I wonder if they realise that doing stuff like this they obtain the opposite effect of what they want…people get annoyed because they change the rules and/or because they have to wait so long. The result is that people will not want to go there after the bad experience.

    • I know. How date they try and do something good and give something away for free! Even if it is for marketing purposes!

      • +1

I agree that it is something for free so take it (with the conditions) or leave it.
What I am saying is that there is no point going through the troubles and cost of doing something like this if the result of the marketing exercise is negative because it has not been planned properly. They are left with unhappy customers, stressed staff and the cost of the goods given away for free. Lose lose situation.
In their defence it is probably very difficult to plan this type of marketing properly, especially with hungry Ozbargainers on the hunt ;-)

        • +3

It's not difficult at all. Restrict the deal to one per person per day/week etc then put unique codes on the vouchers.

People will always find a way to abuse things like this, but their issues are solely from people redeeming exactly as they were told to.

Free is free, but if my day is inconvenienced by this then I'm not going to be remembering their (too!) generous promotion, I'm going to be remembering the hassle. That being said, as long as they honour the existing vouchers that shouldn't be a major issue.

  • +8

Not sure if they really thought this promotion entirely through with all the revisions (reminds me of a episode of the Simpsons).

This 2-4pm thing isnt going to work too. Do they record what time they give you the card? Because you pay at the end, so really, you eat at like 1pm and by the time you pay its after 2pm.

The opposite also occurs, you get there around 3pm, theres a line because its gonna get ozbargained, finally get your food, shove food down your throat, line up at 3.55pm, nek minnit the time is 4.05pm and you pay full price lol.

  • +17

    Guys,

Relax, they are just trying to re-create the Rio experience, long lines, running out of food, just need a few pickpockets and it'll be a trifecta.

  • $14 dinner with soft drinks for two people. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Kudos to the Vapiano staff @ Melbourne Flinders Lane. Got 2 pastas today, no fuss.

Never been before. A good experience.

    • +1

I 2nd this. Had excellent pasta lunch

  • I've got to go to Vapianos! Between my free GYG burritos and this I don't know where I will make the space in my belly!

  • +1

I am still yet to try my name initials emails (2), I might give it a go today and just ask at the register before lining up to order. Has anyone had any issues using their voucher in Sydney store?

  • Signed up yesterday and got the email last night - but only valid for 2-4pm the following Mon, Tues and Wed. Annoying since I'm nowhere near the Sydney store on a weekday during the day…

  • +2

What's stopping anyone from using the first email that doesn't have those limitations?

    • +3

Nothing, I went last night for the first time and used the initial email.

I think Vaps is basically trying to limit its expenditure now. It understands that it will have to honour initial emails sent out but any new people who sign up will no longer have the same luxury.

  • +1

Can someone try to use the first two emails with no restrictions today and report back on their success…

    • +4

I tried and it was working at Garden city.

    • +1

I used the first one with no restrictions today in Sydney.

  • +3

I tried using the old voucher @ Flinders lane, Melbourne. No questions asked. The only difference is they now check you ID!

    • +1

They always check my ID here at Sydney store (Monday and Tuesday).

      • +1

they were so busy in Melbourne yesterday and they could not be bothered checking the emails. The lady did not even unfold the email I printed!

  • +2

Just used one of the first two emails at flinders lane. All good. Got a pizza today and a pasta yesterday.

  • Got something at Melbourne for more then $17 and just paid the difference.

  • obviously didn't read ozbargain and got a shock from being told the newest voucher wasn't available to use until next week. Good thing I don't delete my emails.

  • +1

Ate at Surfers last night, they were busy af
    Pizza very average
    Ravioli is surprisingly good

    • Thanks for the recommendation! Any hassle about the vouchers?

      • +1

np, no dramas with vouchers at all.

  • +1

Anyone used the first two emails more then twice? I have used mine Tuesday and Wednesday and tempted for another pasta haha

    • +3

      Not me.

And I'm not sure if the free meal is still dependent on whether Australia wins gold that day or not, or if we can just keep using the old emails until the staff recognizes us redeeming the same email over and over again.

  • +1

Redeemed using the first email today at the Melbourne store.
Customer in front of me also used the voucher and just paid for the difference for his pasta.

  • +1

    Another pizza thanks to Chalmers.

  • So they're still accepting the original voucher without the time restriction?

    • +1

yes, we had a group of 12 all with the voucher go through last night lol

      • Like a boss!! I wish I saw that!!

      • +1

        Mini ozbargain meet up huh
The look on your faces if you all had been turned down.. Priceless

  • +1

Just had free lunch at Garden City on first voucher. Asked for suggestion of what to order as was in a hurry. As others were ordering pasta, they suggested pizza to go. In at 12:25, out 20 min later. Great service.

    T&C on counters.

  • Today's email says: Offer is only available 2pm to 4pm on Monday 15 August, Tuesday 16 August and Wednesday 17 August 2016.

  • Sydney King Street is pretty insane right now
"One hour wait for pizza" lol…

  • +3

Just a reminder voucher is not valid Friday's or Saturday's :)

  • Have you guys received the new emails for the new Gold medal wins?

    I only have 3 emails received :(

    • +1

      Nope I haven't.

      Sif you need freebies, Stevie!

  • "Offer is only available 2pm to 4pm on Monday 15 August, Tuesday 16 August and Wednesday 17 August 2016"
There would not be many people that can use it.

    • -1

There are heaps of office workers in the city who could probably duck out for a quick bite, or even just get takeaway.

      • Duck out at 2pm and stay out 1 hour waiting for the pizza/pasta? Lucky them…

        • -1

          What? All you said was..

There would not be many people that can use it.

So now you're acknowledging that they can still use it?

I didn't mention anything about wait time.

  • It will be interesting what the conditions will be for the latest Gold medal.

    • Not that interesting - same conditions.

      • +1

Geez I hope someone wins on Wednesday or Thursday.

        • +1

          🙌That would be interesting🙌

This is a bad week to have my birthday😢
Already had enough free meals arranged before this deal. Haven't done any grocery shopping - I can't eat any more. Still have to use free birthday drink at Vapiano.

        • Googled competitions - seems only preliminaries for Australia on Wednesday. Unlikely any voucher would arrive in time on Thursday for use on Thursday. That is unless promo continues past Thursday. Not valid for use Friday & Saturday on old vouchers.

Having another free meal at moment.

  • Now someone has to use the old voucher on Thursday and report back ;) (Or use it before 2pm on Mon-Wed!)

    • +1

Should be no issue - I'm using 2nd voucher now. Staff said I could use it up to Thursday night, as stated in email.

  • +1

Offer is only available 2pm to 4pm

Hmmm… Does that mean we need to pick up the card for ordering (may be long queue), or order, or have to pay - by 4pm???

Can we order before 2pm & get this deal when we pay after 2pm.

Given there may be a queue (to get card, to order, to pay) & a wait for meal as people can only use voucher in short period, it is very uncertain what this condition means.

Don't want to have to pay the full bill… I think I'll be there after 2pm & ask.

    • also curious to know if I can order at say 1pm, sit and eat for an hour and pay at 2.01pm and get the free meal?

      • +1

        Staff probably don't know either.

But guess they will might need to process the payment between 2-4pm.

I've been known to have long lunches, where staff ask if I'm staying for the evening meal as well - of course 😯

  • Used the old vouchers (the first two gold medals) at flinders lane, melbourne restaurant yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. Place was empty but their card system wasnt working so they cashiers had no idea on who ordered what. The missus and I both ordered pastas more than $17, and presented our emails on our phones with the vouchers however, my missus isnt a fanatico member and the voucher was one I sent to her. Despite checking the IDs, they allowed both the vouchers and allowed us to pay the difference.

After a 15 minute delay waiting at the register, with 5 or so other people waiting in line, they decided to waive the extra payment for my missus' pasta as they could only take cash payment as their POS system was down (I had cash, missus had card). Decent meals for just $4 payment.

  • +1

Used the very first voucher today in Brisbane. All good, no dramas.

I ordered the $16 salami pizza and added mushrooms for $1. When it came time to pay, the register guy said I had to pay the extra $1 as its not included in the voucher (which was fine, I wasn't arguing about a $1 pizza!).

Someone attempted to pay at 1:45pm (when I was leaving) with one of the "2pm-4pm" vouchers. Register guy just said they had to sit and wait until 2pm to pay, as he wasn't allowed to process them through until then.

Great pizza, didn't have to wait long (15-ish minutes), friendly staff. Recommend! :-)

    • Good for Brisbane guys. Just went to Melbourne restaurant and they told me to wait for 1 hour or more :(

      • Same here, won't be waiting an hour for a pizza. I'm thinking of go tomorrow, order then pick up after work.

  • brisbane manager at vapiano was a prick…

2-4pm - started to turn people away @ 3:15. Saying "We won't cook it in time before 4pm…."

  • Arrived at Garden City 14:50, they paused queue at front door until 15:25 to clear backlog of orders & clear queue waiting to pay. Was a bit cool in t-shirt 👕😊 Staff were friendly & warned of 30 minute wait. Rested staff are important for a good experience.

Sitting in sun eating pasta delivered upstairs while posting this at 15:35 🌞 Few people upstairs, downstairs many are ordering takeaway.

No need to rush the meal - can "pay" after 4 on voucher.

    • Queue out the door after 4pm. Seems they were still accepting vouchers!

  • Brisbane CBD claimed they were at capacity at 3:30PM And had the entrance blocked off.

They said they were closed till 4:00PM, I have the original voucher so am waiting to use it then.

  • -1

I really don't understand Vapiano's decision here. I tried at the Brisbane CBD store as well and they turned me away.

If you're going to put a promotion like this out there, don't go back on it because so many are taking advantage. What did they expect, 20 people showing up with vouchers and that's it?

Now they have left a bad taste in my mouth, I didn't mind going there before but now I'll think twice.

    • +2

Regulations limit how many people can be in restaurant.

  • Made the mistake of going during a lunch break, it was very crowded about 50 people, also very hot. I didn't make it back to the office. Which is across the street.

  • Well this is good timing. I've got a meeting in Melbourne CBD on Wednesday and a free late lunch would be great. Aussie Aussie Aussie!

    • Thrive would be faster, and more seats too at the Emporium.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/business/advertising-promoting-your-…

We should all report Vapiano to all our local consumer protection agencies for this misleading giveaway.

    • +1

Well, say goodbye to future freebies from this business - for all of us.

5 X $17 meals FREE was pretty good deal.

Am about to get another meal $17 off😯
Has been great for me. Have had a great time with the friendly staff.

About 30 min wait for pasta meal after arrival today at sunny Garden City.

  • +3

No problems at all at brisbane cbd store. Just getting my third freebie now, going in after work around 4.30 each time and showing earliest email with no time restriction, works a charm! Hardly any lines at all.

  • Been thrice to Vapiano, Sydney so far. Was able to offer any Pizza/Pasta (above $17) and paid the difference.
    No dramas

    • +1

Have you gone at any insane peak hours? Do you mind sharing?

I went last Thurs night and it was insane… 1 hour wait for pizza, and approx 30-40 mins for pasta.

      • I have done takeaways between 5-7PM all three times, and it wasn't that bad

  • +1

Melbourne store not doing takeaway pizza, they are out of boxes.

  • Another Gold Medal overnight. New offer this afternoon.

    • +2

Don't know why you are interested - you asked for a campaign against this restaurant?

      How's your complaint going?
I'm sitting in the restaurant in the sun enjoying another $17 off my lunch - much nicer than wasting time complaining😀

      • -4

Well done! Do you want a medal?

        • +1

Thanks - it'll go nicely with the next meal voucher on Sunday.
But of course you won't be going ;-(

        • -2

Make sure you get new pants.

    Latest T&C's

    • Free pizza or pasta to the value of $17 or under only. Extras can be added to the deal and will be charged as separate items. Offer is available anytime on Sunday 21 August only. Offer is not valid with any other deal and may only be used for one item. Fanaticos must present photo ID and this email containing their name to claim offer. Fanaticos are entitled to one voucher and one complimentary meal per day regardless of if Australia wins multiple gold medals.
    • An officemate is responsible for that. She ran into the problem of people not willing to clarify at order time exactly what the magic incantation to get a discount on a fancier pizza was, and the information being sprung on her at the cashier that she'd ordered incorrectly and the same pizza ordered using different words apparently would have qualified rather than being full price. She escalated to Vapiano and now it's clarified so that not only ozb'ers will know the right magic incantation now.
