Los Angeles Return ex Melbourne $705 with Fiji Airways via Zuji

1540

Searching for more cheap fares and stumbled across this beauty. As long as you don't mind a 15 hour stopover in Nadi for a quick swim, this is an unbeatable price. I found 4 departure dates in October (1st, 2nd, 4th & 15th) with returns on the 21st, 23rd, 24th & 27th of October. And to top it off, payment is with a credit card so no additional fees. Good luck!

For all you lucky Melbournians. Go on the Fiji airways website and click on Flexible dates when booking, for more variety of dates

Do you have to stay in the airport in Fiji? or can you literally go for a swim (if so what are the visa costs (if required))

    • +7

no visa required in fiji if u hold aussie passport and staying for less than 30 days…fiji is amazing!

      • Score - what's Fiji Airways like? This is a nice fare to LA (not the best I've seen but certainly very competitive.

        • It's like flying jetstar to LA.

    • Visa issued on arrival, seems like a great deal.

I did this flight a couple of years ago.

The airport in Nadi seems little more than a glorified shed so you won't be sitting there for too long. There's not much to do on the main island, if you want to see Fiji paradise, you need to get out to smaller/other islands so it's better than an airport lounge but not a tropical wonderland. Timing is probably critical here - there's almost nothing to do on a Sunday near the airport.

      • What's service and reliability like?

      • +7

There are hotels across the road from the airport with pools and restaurants.
Start your holiday with a day room at the 5* Gateway Hotel. Better than any airport VIP lounge.

      • +2

The airport has been undergoing major renovations for the past year or so and is a lot better than it used to be. It has proper air con now!

Agree with the rest of what you said - nothing much on the mainland. A day trip from Denerau is the best bet.

NB if you feel stingy and don't want to give IWTF the credit for the find, booking is through Zuji so you can Cashrewards it for another $10 or so back (1.2%)

Alternatively Flight Center may be able to beat it by $1 as Zuji is Australian (owned by Webjet)

(TA can I have a job at CR ;) )

    • Well maybe not. I am still waiting more than 6 months for a zuji cash back on CR. Everything else tracked and paid but not Zuji

      • I've had success in the past with them. Maybe send support a message

  • Has anyone flown Fiji Airways? What's service and reliability like?

      for $700 who cares

    • +2

I flew them back in 2010 from LAX to SYD. At the time the air craft was out of date but the staff were super friendly and always more than willing to get you another drink and delivered service with a smile. As Gavman said below, for $700 you are onto a winner.

some shocking reviews there. Might be worth paying extra…

Flew to Fiji last year for a wedding - booked Qantas but they code share with Fiji air

It was terrible. Air con was crap. Plane was very very warm. Drinks came out - asked for a coke - not available. It was only water or juice. I wouldn't fly them again if I could help it. Make sure you take your iPad filled with media or else you will get bored.

      • Snap, one of the worse airlines I have used.

like any economy flight… Sh*thouse till you get there

  • Just noticed if you book directly with Zuji it's $695 (excluding cashback etc.).

    • What dates are you using. Best I could find was $704 at Zuji direct. Was actually $347 each way but the total then added a further $10?

      • 1st to 24th yeah for some reason they're chucking on an extra $10 for me too once I click on it :/.

If you open up a dialogue with zuji chat they'll fix it for you and should give you a link to the $695 fare - I did that last time I saw a potentially glitchy fare.

        • Thanks.

@tightarse: no worries, thanks for the deal!

        • +1

          @tightarse:

Opened up a chat with a rep and was told that there is a Payment and Service fees (Fiji Airways Flights) $ 10.00

That clears it up - so much for Zuji being a no added cost travel agent

  • If I am thinking of going to new york and canada would this be a good deal. Or better to wait for flights direct to new york?

    • +1

depends which side of canadia you're going to - vancouver? then probably easier to fly in & out of LA. if you're going to Toronto then possibly better to fly direct to NY based on some of the recent sales that have been on for NY

that being said this is a ripping great price, you can probably find some decently cheap internal flights between LA & NY cheap enough that this'll beat some of the direct to NY flight deals we've seen recently

      • Any tips on how to find cheap flights between LA/SF and NY, what is the current aprox oneway/round trip best fare, thanks

        • +2

Try www.southwest.com - we've flown with them a few times. I did a random search for 4 Oct and its US$42 one way LA/SF.
Edit: oh wait you want to get to NY. Well, I tried. Which counts.

        • +2

          Try Momondo, Kayak, and Skyscanner.

        • +2

@dazweeja: I don't think any of the flight price comparison sites include Southwest. Personally I like Google Flights way more than Skyscanner.

        • as the others have just suggested, any of the search engines will work :) skyscanner, google flights etc.

remember most of these sites & tools were invented for the US market first ;)

only thing to be aware of booking separate LA-NY legs is that your luggage benefits may change, a lot of carriers give you 2x 23kg to/from the US, which you likely won't get on the internal/domestic leg, so if you plan to shop up an absolute storm in new york then this may be an issue.

also make sure you have travel insurance to cover you in case of internal flight delays screwing up your international departure, as you'll likely be on different carriers, and at the least different bookings, so either party won't care much :)

        • @muncan: SouthWest are very good, they host I had on my flight from Austin to Cancun was hilarious!

    • fly direct. we r going to ny n canada and booked with aitlr canada in dec for $1050pp. thats very cheap in dec but we can only travel during school holidays because my hubby is a teacher.

we are stopping in vancouver but you could choose another city. for an extra $100 you could stop in 2 cities in canada. we were going bris- vancouver-calgary- ny for $1150 which i thought was a great price but then cancelled rockies because its too cold.

im gutted though that we r arriving in ny during the most expensive week if the year. the cheapest hotel is usd$300p/n.

air canada is ex newark airport but i prefer to jfk. its closer to nyc. jfk is so far away.

      • wow that's a great deal. What dates?

  • Flown them before. Not bad for the price did a 3hr stopover in nadi. If you want cheap direct flights to la try Google or Expedia on the weekends and in USD. I saw august flights for $830 rtn which wasn't bad considering still summer

Do the air crew blokes wear grass skirts and hold spears?

  • +5

Can you stop over for greater than 15 hours? This would be a great way to break up a long flight if you could.

    • Wanting to know the same

      • +2

        Sure!

Just search for a Multi-city on Zuji(or any other site).

        02/10/16
        MEL-NAD

        05/10/16
        NAD-LAX

        21/10/16
        LAX-MEL

        is $735 on Zuji.

Also, it's not really school holiday period but in case you have different dates children fares are cheaper through Fiji Airways directly. For example MEL-LAX return is around $520 for a child booking directly.

dont forget Qantas frequent flyers get 45 Status credits each way in discount economy from East Coast Aus to LAX via Nadi. Total of 90 SC for around A$700 is a bargain!

    • Not a member of Qantas ff. What can you use SC for (I presume to move up membership tiers) and how many do you need.

  • +1

They also offer business upgrades at check in. From memory these are in the 300-500 dollar range depending on availability. Worth checking out, it's not the best business class but it's certainly better than economy anywhere!

  • Flights booked..thanks OP!

  • Cheapest ever beside error fares I believe? Good to see prices continuing to come down.

  • 15 hour stopover jesus.

  • anything from sydney?
