  • How heavy would one of those whole beef fillets be? 2kg? Jim interested but if it is going to be too much volume for me then I might have to pass.

    • Not sure? Would have to ring them an ask. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut it for you too despite selling it as a whole…

  • Per kilogram in title please.

  • Should also mention it's "yearling" beef.

  • Can anyone vouch for the quality of the meat at Tasman Meats? Have walked through one before but not sure if they are any good.

    • I buy their meat when I'm shopping at southland, it's good quality, but like all places, pick the best pieces.

If you buy the whole fillet you get 3-4 fillet mignons, (centre cut steak) use the tail end for stir fry or beef stroganoff, and the butt end as a roast. Other options is coles has eye fillet at $36 this week, so just get a couple of fillet mignons rather than beef for a whole week and find a purpose for the tail and butt pieces of the fillet.

  • My local butcher sells whole beef fillets for $19.95 per kg as an everyday price. Sometimes as low as $10 per kilo. Only thing is they are about 2.5 kg but are good to cut your own thickness. Im going to get one when my sous vide stick arrives I bought off groupon for about $120 yesterday.

    • For the price you probably got Scotch fillet.

      • no, whole fillets are about $20 kg at Victoria market and some whole sale butchers …….

    • What suburb is that in?

      • We'd all like to know. At either price I'd be prepared to travel to buy it.

        • there's on in cheltenham / southland next to the Aldi on grad level

  • Picked some up

    Thanks!

Most at my shop were 1.9kg.

Not sure how much the usual price was .
I think it was about 30 per kg
