XFX Radeon RX 470 RS Triple X 4GB $299 @ PC Case Gear

160

Better buy than any GTX 970 . ( More future proof ) looks to be around 5-10% slower then the RX480 8Gb's and with only a 120w TDP along with a 2 fan heak-sink combo it should keep temps low and the card quiet

For $10 more there's an Overclocked version if that's worth it or not.. up to the buyer.

Amazon price is $199US but its out of stock and you dont get the local 3 year warranty

Or maybe it just means you're gonna get screwed. :)

  • +1

tempting, although I am guessing in a few months we'll see the 4GB 480 cheaper than this during sales etc

    • +1

That's If they ever bring out another BASIC RX480 4GB card..
We never got any in Australia and they look to be sold out all around the world.

The AMD RX480 4GB reference model was $199US "BUT" i don't think we will ever see a custom designed RX480 4GB model for $199US and if we do it wont be until well into next year.

With every DX12/Vulkan game that comes out the RX480/RX470 will look to be the better buy VS GTX 1060 and prices will probably climb because of that.

      Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 480, 4GB $369 (cheapest 4GB card i could find)
      http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Graphics_Cards/AMD/64987-…

      • Yeah. I did read an article about a month ago that PC Case Gear had the 480 4GB for $319, but then stock was gone very quickly.

I imagine in a few months we'd start to see stock returning again. I am in no rush so will probably hang out a couple of months for a 480.

Yeah the 480 launch has been an utter shite show.

Good thing the 470 looks so good on paper, for this price point.

      • might bite the bullet and get the sapphire if they have stock ……. there are some things you just want to enjoy now, and I'm not sure how fast prices will drops,
oops Scoprtec 3 days for delivery none in stock :-(

    • Well, you won't, on any 480 models in australian stock

  • Anyone know why XFX is so cheap and why only PCCG seem to stock them? Are they grey imports or something?

    • -6

because xfx is a cheap shitty brand, they used to be called Pine Group who have been making crappy vga cards longer than most people on this forum have been alive

      • +1

Don't think that is really that true though, their old black edition dd models actually performed quite well. Xfx have really stepped their game up in recent years.

      • +1

Even if they are shitty it still doesn't explain the pricing difference. The XFX reference versions are the same price as other brands in the US but in Australia there's a large price gap.

        • +1

You talk as though there is some rule that has to be followed for pricing - there isn't. The explanation is OEMs saw that Nvidia are selling above RRP and went well why shouldn't we do that and here we are where the cheaper brands start discounting.

        • Probably just because MSI/Asus/EVGA are more popular here

    • -1

no stock of the 4GB cards, but it did give them a lot of PR and advertising when they sold the batch they had how ever many few that might have been.

An item isn't cheap if there is no stock as you can't purchase it, but I guess it does show up when people goggle it, so the cheap price for an item you can't buy is not a reflection of the quality, guess if they had stock they would list it at $380 or more.

  • +2

Is this really a deal? I think it's just the standard pricing for XFX. It's not like it's discounted.

  • Pricing is not too bad is it? (Open for discussion), obviously lower the better, the Americas paying about ~$260 AUD for this card, hopefully the market subsides a bit and lower pricing.

    • +2

It's a great price for a card of it's power, although I think it's RRP. I imagine we'd see prices drop like any other product does in the next month or two.

  • Was considering the Nitro rx 480 but… 50c idle temps… thats too close to that on/off auto fan switch.

    • The card looks great, but the temp is a bit disappointing, the Powercolour Devil on the other hand hits all the spots.

      • +1

apart from the $500 price tag it will probably come with

  • -1

all these cards are starting way high. this is the price that that rx 480 was meant to be at but look at that

    • +1

Are you referring to USD pricing or AUD pricing?

Australians get the down under tax and the situation is made worse with a weak dollar, so it's not surprising at all.

      • GTS + supplier fees + conversion costs = allot more then US pricing but if your happy to not get local warranty then you can save money buying overseas

  • does the 480 still suffer from the pci-e power draw problems? more to the point does this….

    • Nope.. they fixed it with a simple driver update a week after launch and everyone made a big fuss over nothing..

Driver changed where the card draws extra power from if needed .. it now takes everything above 75w from the 6pin socket connected to your power supply.. before the driver update it took the extra power from the PCI-E bracket.. so someone messed up on the release drivers for the card.

This RX470 uses 120w so it wont even need to worry about where it draws extra power from.. its way under the 150w its got access too.

  • -4

How is this better than a GTX970? It's more expensive and much slower.

    • +1

in DX12 games its 5-20% faster and in Vulcan its 50% faster.. seeing as all the new games coming out will be made using either DX12 or Vulkan… only someone who is happy playing DX11 games and upgrading in a years time should buy the GTX970 over RX480/RX470

      • there's a reason there's no shortage of GTX 970 cards and lost of deals, but not many deals on rx480 , and little stock.

      • -2

        Passmark for GTX 970 = 8658
        Passmark for RX480 = 7631

This card is not even an RX480.

        What are you all smoking?
