Soniq U65TX14A 65" UHD 3D LED Smart TV $998 @ Soniq

140

Are you struggling to deal with all that blank wall space surrounding your tiny little 55" TV? Problem sorted.

Same as this deal but direct through Soniq.

Website says it's down from $1799 but I think that's a stretch. Shipping coming up as $90 to the Gold Coast. Free pick up from 178 Boundary Road, Braeside, VIC 3195.

UHD, 100/120hz, Android 4.2 built in, 3D if anyone still watches that.

Impressive 36 month Australian warranty included.

  • Akai 65" 4k is $999 at Harvey Norman

Yeah that's not bad either, but it expires tomorrow and only has 12mth warranty. Manufacturer warranty is pretty important for these cheap TVs.

      • I have the 65" Soniq non-3D model as a monitor. Great for watching movies on a cheap UHD video card. Wouldn't have bought it without 3 years warranty.

Akai is not the Akai we once knew. The Akai brand name was acquired when Akai went bankrupt, and is used to rebadge other manufacturers' goods.

I can't find the specs for the Akai. This Soniq only has HDMI 1.4, don't you need HDMI 2.0 to get UHD at 60hz? Seems as though the 100-120hz refresh rate is kind of useless then? Or is that the bogus refresh rate that lots of manufacturers give where the real refresh rate is actually about 1/4 of the states refresh rate?

    • Was at Harvey's today buying a cooktop and when picking up at the warehouse four customers arrived, all picking up this giant Akai.

I think getting the longest warranty you can on any electrical item is a given these days.

And I'm not talking about those extended warranties that get pushed by retailers.

    • +2

Some credit cards offer extended warranties for free if you use them to purchase the electrical items. Usually it's 24 months extra warranty on top of the original warranty.

      • +1

Free at first but there is usually an excess when you make a claim.

  • Adds the hassle of return postage if/when a problem occurs. Easier to get it back to JB.

    • Interesting thing is you'll find that consumer affairs states that for small items, the purchase is responsible for return shipping, for large items like tvs, the seller is, so that should make that choice a bit easier

  • JB told me to take it back to the manufacturer repairer

    $1 more at JB(I think it's A similar model)

    • Not 4K
      Not 3D
Exactly the same, but a little bit different.

      • Ok, didn't see 3D in title so assumed same model. Thanks

        • And the wrong resolution as well ( yours is FHD, this ones UHD)

  • +1

Unless you have this as a secondary tv & not used too often, don't buy.
I just bought the 55" HD version from JB HiFi for $499 & the colour gradation is pretty awful. Its a perfect example of what 'colour washout' means.
There also seems to be a lip syncing problem.
The only reason its acceptable for me was I watch it outside on the patio where daylight minimises the appearance of washout.

  • Big thread on this TV on whirlpool - Good and Bad reviews. Seems its not great as a second monitor as it has bad imput lag?

Would have liked this for my gaming tv

    • I guess the theory is that it's hit and miss with these brands and more "hit" with a name brand.
