    Wow this sure drops fast!

    • +1

I think it was due to the bad reviews it was getting from critics, overall though it seems like a decent phone, just did not live up to the hype of the reviewers

      • I agree. It was meant to compete head to head with the S7/Edge, but never takes off and overshadowed by the Samsung.

    • Understandable as it wasnt received very well which is a shame as I loved my G3 and was planning on getting the G5. Opted for a Nexus 6P and love it to bits!

    • +3

Thats the wonder of LG phones, they fall quickly and allow you to get decent specs at mid range prices. Never ever buy LG at launch unless you like overpaying

      • +14

agree. only buy apple products at launch, you get free publication by camping for 5 days on the street.

        disclaimer: sarcasm mode on

    • +12

Google "lg g5 boot loop" without the quotes.

Too early to tell how prominent but yes it looks like these do it too.

Not touching an LG again. I've been without my G4 for a month now. In at JB for warranty repair for 4 weeks today. Second unit I've had WIFI and Bluetooth die)

      • +1

Google "S7 boot loop" without the quotes.

Letting you know it's any phone, not LG specifically. Returned 2 Samsungs over 2.5 years due to bootloops after updates. And don't get me started on bluetooth, after an update, my S6 wouldn't connect to any audio Bluetooth device! Anyway you can google anything, in the end it's luck of the draw for any phone mate.

        • +6
          • These LG boot loops aren't triggered by updates. They are hardware faults.
          • Some people have had 4 phones in less than 9 months.

The typical scenario: You wake up one day and your phone is frozen. You try to reboot and it enters the boot loop.

Likewise both times my WIFI and Bluetooth module died I was using the phone perfectly one moment then a few hours later went back to use the phone only to come up against a flashing WIFI icon.

If it has gotten to the point where you need to expect that flagship phones will die and be out of your possession for months at a time for warranty repair, perhaps it's time to save a few hundred dollars and pick up a cheap throwaway phone instead.

        • +1

          @syousef:

But where is the evidence that the G5 suffers from the same sort of loose hardware component bootloop issue that the G4 does (rather than just the same sorts of issues that can happen to any phone)?

        • @cainn:

People who have a G4 have upgraded have reported similar. This is a much newer phone. As I said in my post extent is unknown right now. All I did was share my info. You are free to ignore it or believe it and take the risk.

        • +1

          @syousef:

I'm not "ignoring" or "believing" anything at this stage. I just want to know what evidence there is to suggest that the G5 has an inherent hardware issue that results in early failure like the G4 does.

Otherwise all we can say at this point is that there have been a few reports of G5 boot loops that don't seem any more significant or widespread than similar reports about other flagship phones.

        • -2

          @cainn:

I'm not going to repeat myself. You have all the info I have. I am wary. I don't have hundreds to drop on a phone that ends up in the shop for a month or two and of no use to me.

      • +1

Don't buy from this dishonest seller!
I bought a G4 from this seller late last year (comes with 1 year seller warranty) - Bootloop.
I sent back to the seller 2 months already but no response.

        • +1

          Same here. Does not reply.
Ebay not helping either to enforce warranty.

        • +2

My G4 had the bootloop issue too (after updating to Marshmallow), purchased from QD_AU in Aug 2015, they accepted it and sent it off to LG for diagnosing and repair/replace. It took about 3-5 weeks for me to get the phone back, but eventually I did. They replaced some parts in my G4 and it came with a new serial number.

Still using the phone till this date with no issues.

I did send a follow-up ebay message to qd_au every week to ask for an update, which they kept saying it's with LG and they'll let me know when they get any more info.

YMMV, so yeah… just keep trying and contact PayPal if you can't get a response from qd_au. They will respond to PayPal disputes.

        • @chuns: thanks. I did a paypal dispute but have little hope because it is now 10 months but listing showed 1 year warranty so fingers crossed

        • @chuns: paypal auto closed it as more than 180 days out…going nowhere

        • @mrbillions:

Damn that sucks. When I sent mine in, I had maybe 1-3months left of the 1year warranty remaining.

Are you ebay messaging and emailing qd directly?

        • +1

(My G3 was Australian stock and got boot problem after 14 months)

My G4 was grey import stock bought from this seller got boot problem after 10 months. It has been a pain contacting "quality deals" ebay store people. After over seven weeks since sending back my LG G4, I think that it would arrive tomorrow (I missed DHL people yesterday)

I am in Melbourne. And LG only has its service agent in Sydney. I will avoid buying LG products till they serve Victorians better.

I am coming back to Samsung now after two troubled LG phones. With Samsung, I can deal direcly with their Highpoint Store.

        • Then neg this deal….big red neg.

        • @gunnny: I would love to… but not allowed for negative vote for new user.

    • the modular section tends to have a gap like a 1-2mm gap…when its closed..does not look very good with the gap present.

    • Don't buy from this dishonest seller ever!
I bought a G4 from this seller late last year (Comes with 1 year seller warranty) - Bootloop.
I sent back to the seller 2 months already and received no response.

    • Definately worth the wait. As expected under $500 within 6 months.

Any android flagship wait 6 months then buy at best price points while it's still not bad specs

  • Seems like a good deal, too bad I got the moto x style off ebay during the vodafone sale albeit i paid $400.

  • -1

Wow good price, is that because the G6 is rumoured to released in September?

    • Havent heard that. Are you getting it confused with the V20?

      • Ops it September 2017…

        • +6

About the time I expect to get my G4 back from warranty repair ;-)

        • I think it's because the G7 is rumored to come in 2018

        • @syousef: how are you going about warranty claim or is this a sarcastic remark?

        • @mrbillions:

No unfortunately I really do own an LG G4 and I really did drop it off for warranty repair 4 weeks ago at JB Hi Fi. I'm just annoyed that I went with a local retailer and people have shipped their phone overseas and had it back sooner than I.

        • @syousef:

So in your experience local warranty is not better than qd_au warranty?

        • +1

          @noone:

In theory mine is a 2 yr warranty and I dropped the phone in same day without we waiting a week for a response. My first one was replaced same day. Am I happy with a longer wait than some have had with grey market for the second replacement? Hell no.

  • +1

Great price for a great phone. I'm enjoying mine.

    • +1

same, best phone i've had in years, and i had the s6 edge before this (which i fkn hated)

battery life is amazing, and that rear camera is special… back to a replaceable battery is a godsend too.

      • +1

        The camera is absolutely awesome.

  • +16

I just cant bring myself do it again (buy an LG phone from overseas) due to the G4 bootloop debacle.

    • +8

I agree. I have an unaffected G4 but I don't trust LG any more. Had the G2 and G3 in the past. Sad they didn't own up to the issue internationally and fix the problem without making owners jump through hoops.

      • My G4 is currently under RA with Kogan
Boot loop issues. On a S6 edge atm and i hate it compared to my G4

        • +2

I'm glad it's not just me.
I bought an S7 to replace my G4 while it was away for repairs but I just got my G4 back and I think I'm going to ditch the S7.

        • +3

@theguyrules: love the tap function on Lg and the quick circle case

        • @theguyrules: serious? Is S7 that bad?

        • +2

@homersyd: I guess so. I find it hard to explain exactly why, but I just liked the G4 a lot more.

        • @theguyrules: better camera? speed? screen? the curved screen?

        • +3

@homersyd: G4 camera is better for sure, in my opinion. Maybe not quite as good for low light photos but that rarely effects me. The S7 has already started to do the classic Samsung thing and slow down, run hot and have bad battery life, after only 2 months. Similar thing happened to my S3 and S5. Whilst the G4 was very consistent with battery and speed for the whole 8ish months I had it for.
The S7 is a beautifully made and designed phone but it feels to fragile for me too. Apparently its very expensive to replace broken screen (or glass back), which keeps me scared to use it. Never broken a screen before but I still worry, maybe this will be the first. The G4 feels cheaper but stronger.

        • @theguyrules: cool good to know. After the G4 debacle I'm thinking of another phone…and sell the G4 when it's fixed

        • +1

@homersyd: I wouldn't know what phone to recommend to replace the G4. It's a shame cause if I do switch back to the G4 I'll always be worried of it dying in another 8 months.

        • +1

@theguyrules: Don't know what you're doing wrong but I've had an S7 edge since launch and it doesn't "do the classic samsung thing and slow down, run hot and have bad battery life."
Coincidentally I had a G4 before and IT ran hot and had bad battery life, especially when using the camera for extended periods of time.

        • @aero8: Not trying to start a debate, obviously everyone's experience is different. It's good that you like the phone, but I'm not doing anything 'wrong' and nothing different from any other of my previous Androids.

        • @homersyd:
I cant speak on behalf of S7 but the S6 edge im using at the moment just doesnt do it for me. Im not bagging samsung i just prefer the G4. The bit i am a bit envious about is the VR gear and the built in oculas software that you cant access on another phone. (Easily). My daughter has the VR gear and i was pretty impressed. But will wait for PS VR

        • -1

          @theguyrules:
I got the S7 Edge because I had to return the LG G4 for repair. And I will not come back to the LG G4 (I do miss the quick circle thing nevertheless).

      • +1

I have had better experience with LG Australian warranty e.g. the G2 I had earlier. However, grey imports will not be covered by LG Australia.
For reference, check the experience of the many people trying to return failed G4 handsets to qd_au, where the time to repair and return them is in the months.

-note that the LG G5 can bootloop as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg5/comments/4hfg9h/lg_g5_reboot_l…

        • +2

Yup thats me right now. Sent qd_au my LG G4 more than a month ago because of the boot loop problem and i still haven't gotten it back yet. qd_au gives a really slow reply all the time when trying to contact them, roughly 1 week. Not being able to have a good estimated time for the phone back is a real hassle..

        • +1

          @jasonduong:

My girlfriend had the same issue and received her phone back in working order yesterday. Took about 4-5 weeks after it got in their hands but they've said there is a huge influx of requests for G4 repairs (warranties running out soon and it's happening to all the faulty batches) and apologized for it.

I'm sure this issue sucks for them too!

        • +2

@jasonduong: Mine took 6 weeks door to door with QD_au. You won't care however when it does return to you. G4 is awesome sauce.

        • @Todes Angst:
So through qd_au they actually doing a repair through LG or a replace?

        • @Phoebus:
          Repair through LG.

        • @clse945111: lg AU does not respond and does not deal with ebay purchases.

        • @mrbillions:
          I was responding to

So through qd_au they actually doing a repair through LG or a replace?

And it goes through LG Taiwan. Never said anything about LG AU or eBay purchases.

    • -6

Sorry OP for a neg but bootloop issue with LG G5 are quite likely to happen.
QD_AU is quite bad with their communication and warranty. Avoid! I wouldnt reccomend

Most of LG phone starting from LG G3 release got this bootloop issue even nexus
But G4 got the most majority of bootloop (If you own the Production Date: before 10/2015 , it will most likely dead in the future)
G5,V10, G3, Nexus 5x, Nexus 5 got this bootloop issue as well (Assumption: From Left [most likely happen] to right [less likely happen, respectively] ) but the likely chance to happen is smaller than LG G4

It's a good idea to buy from Local as the warranty process are much quicker and they respond really quick.

  • +3

I just purchase this phone last week, dam could saved $60
Its a dual sim, buy an aldi mobile pay as you go and last for 365days.
Claim 2x freebies on Ozbargain as you have 2 numbers to sign up for.

Great phone, love it every moment.
Delivery in 4days from Taiwan - Hong Kong - Sydney

    • Not sure if Aldi has anything with a shorter expiry, but 2g network is due to be shut down for Telstra and Optus in about 6 months or so I believe. Meaning the second sim slot will be basically useless after this time.

      • -1

LG G5 is capable of 4g on primary sim and 3g on second sim

        • I've been told that is not the case. Can you confirm this is true, or you basing this on hear say?

        • @cureforanitch:

ive got voda 4g as my main and Aldi 3G (im guessing speed test on my 2nd sim 5.31mbps download with 6.74mbps upload)

        • @OhMaJuck: Interesting! QD said it was 4g+2g. What does the the two reception bars say next to the battery indicator? ALso, if you go into settings - about phone - network. What does it say under mobile network type for sim 2?

        • @OhMaJuck: Can you confirm first hand? Keen to buy if it can!

        • @cureforanitch:

I ran speed test using the app,

1st sim is 4g Vodafone Download:11.53mbps / upload 4.18mbps (had 25mbps download before from another location)
          2nd sim Aldi-Telstra Download: 30.71mbps / upload 3.64mbps

If its 2g that there wont be any internet connection right?

Both taken from same location (sydney)

My second sim does not display 3g nor 4g nor h. Just recepetion bar

          http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/dual-sim-simult…

        • @OhMaJuck:thanks, but your link specifically says g5 doesn't support this. Can you check the settings as per my comment above. Did you change any sim settings between running the tests? Interesting that your aldi sim on 3g is quicker than Vodafone 4g

        • @cureforanitch:

          yeah i know, tested again

          Voda 4g down 8.25mbps / upload 1.84mbps

          aldi (unknown 4g or 3g or 2g) 7.73mbps / upload 2.01mbps

Ive been switching sims between this speed test. or could it be all this internet connection through my main vodafone network

        • @OhMaJuck: What do you mean switchin sims? Switching which sim is data, or which sim is 4g, or both? My other dual sim phones allow data on sim 2 (i.e 2g sim), but as you can appreciate the speeds are very limited.

I've got the Xiaomi Mi5, and the only way i could confirm 3g on the second sim was going into the settings, and checking the network type on each sim. I'd expect sim 1 (voda in your case) to be LTE, and the second to say either GSM (2g) or HSDPA/CDMA if its on a 3g connection

  • I want to upgrade from the G4… not sure i can justify it!

    • +5

      Ended up caving and upgrading!

  • +8

I'm on my 3rd Lg G4 from this seller and about to my 4th, 3 touchscreen issues and 1 died totally.

One return took over 5 weeks, the seller communication was terrible and would never reply. Great price but so many issues with the G4, I'm not sure I would trust the G5 or the seller.

    • +2

4 weeks today and still waiting for my second LG G4 to be fixed (replacement for my first one). Not from overseas. From JBHiFi. Don't know if I'm bothering with an expensive phone again. What's the point if you still end up using your old one while it's in for repairs. Definitely not touching LG. Which is a shame because when it worked it was a good phone with a great camera.

  • Wonder if this qualifies as an Aus retailer?
    Free screen replacment offer

And if you buy from telstra or optus store there is a free LG360 Cam

    • +1

      Grey import 100%

      • Shame be a great deal then

    • Free screen replacement is a mistake. I suspect a shortage of screens as every dishonest fool with a slightly scratched screen accidentally on purpose breaks it and sends it in.

      • Maybe screens are faulty and this is their get around RA card.

  • +6

It's a shame QD-AU are getting such a bad name now.
Once tarnished, will be hard to claw back.
Seems customer service lacks with lack of communication and having the warranty issues dealt with form the customer in a responsible and correct way.

    • +6

There's no excuse for the poor customer service but I think they've ended up in a very bad position with all the cheap LG G4 they've sold. Can you imagine how many they must be sending back to LG every few days or what it costs to deal with them all? To keep their prices competitive they've already kept their magins thin and there is no way they'll easily absorb this. Mitigating factors don't give you a working phone so I'm glad I didn't pick up a G4 for my wife from them. Wouldn't touch this retailer given the circumstances.

    • +2

Agreed, they told me the delay in comms was due to an eBay sale. Which isn't an excuse. It took over 3 weeks to even arrange my phone to be sent back, once they got the phone the actual process was pretty quick. So in this instance the blame was 100% on their side.

  • +2

so tempting, but everyone on the interwebs hates this phone.

  • Is this the Exact same model as sold in Australia.

    • this is H860 model with dual sim, i think the Australia one is single sim H850

      • I can confirm that

  • +1

Hardly anybody seems to be buying or likes this phone.

My G4 is the best phone I've owned. It's unfortunate about the bootloop issue and how lg handled it.

    • +1

I've upgraded from my G4 and it's worth it! Every phone has its own fault mate so it's up to you.

  • Would you be able to get the TRS on this?

    • No its grey import so no GST was paid on the phone

      • Thank you

      • Really? If it's supposedly shipped from 'Regent's Park' and bought from ebay australia?

        I'm not saying you're wrong, just surpised…

        • Item departure and eBay Australia don't mean anything… It's where the phone is originally sourced from (who the supplier is), in this case it's from LG Taiwan.

They sometimes ship from Sydney because they've got a distribution centre here.

        • @clse945111: cool, I actually was considering buying one of these phones before heading overseas. useful information!
