Any deal on the international edition Redmi Note 3 Pro?

    • Good question. Rep? What can you do?

    • +1

No stock on the Note 3 Pro currently.

  • +3

Rep, are there any deals on the "Redmi Note 3 Special Edition" (codename: kate) which supports the desirable B28 LTE band for Australian users? It's sold in Taiwan in 3GB/32GB form for ~AUD$250 as shown at http://www.mi.com/tw/note3/specs/

    • +1

      Found a B28 2GB/16GB Redmi Note 3i Pro for ~AUD$215 (US$165) on aliexpress:
      http://www.aliexpress.com/item/International-Version-Xiaomi-…

      • That might be worth posting as a deal by itself because at $215 that is a decent spec'd phone with a B28 band.

    • +2

I have not been able to confirm this phone that they are selling. I have asked them but as expected from these Chinese seller, they don't even know what they are selling. No idea which ROM this phone is running on.

If anyone bought this phone, can you check the product codename in fastboot mode. The one with Band 28 is codename "kate" and should run Android 6 Marshmallow, the standard one is "kenzo" which run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Xiaomi has not officially released any special edition which is 2GB+16GB as you can check on their Taiwan website. There is possibility that they have listed wrong spec for their phone. But also a possibility that Xiaomi has this version unofficially as what they did with Mi Max 16GB

If you are happy with 2GB RAM which may be lagging then go for it.

      • @samehada

mate, kenzo and kate are the codenames for redmi note 3 pro models.

The phone being sold in this post is the Redmi 3s. Another excellent value for money phone from Xiaomi. Hard to choose - I think I'd prefer a 5" size but with the specs of the redmi note 3 pro.

Just trying to keep the confusion to a minimum. I realise other people are requesting the 'kate' version of redmi note 3 pro from the store rep. Hopefully they oblige at a good price.

        • mate, I am replying to the post above regarding the Band 28 Redmi Note 3 Pro if you bother to read.

        • +1

          @samehada:

I read. Just trying to keep the post somewhat on-topic. A lot of other people don't know the in-and-out of all the redmi 3 variations and could have incorrectly read the comments as being about this "new" redmi 3s pro. I know what you were replying to. Thanks for your input, all relevant!

EDIT: I also have read the taiwan mi.com page for the note 3 and there is a 2GB/16GB model, which is just called the Standard version. I thought it would still have Band 20 and 28 which the non-Taiwan versions don't have, but have re-read. You are right @samehada.

I wish a lot more people were selling the Special Edition.

We need them to not be marked up so much too. The RN3P is well-loved as value for money - but that is gone if the price is too high.

        • @Iceman82: You read it completely wrong, ONLY Special Edition has Band 20/28, Taiwan Standard version 16GB DO NOT have band 20/28. Taiwan Standard Edition is still codename "kenzo" same as all other place and doesn't have band 20/28

Mi Taiwan has now stop selling the standard/high edition for Redmi Note 3 3GB+32GB

        • +1

          @samehada:

Good clarification mate. I'd gotten some misinformation somewhere and didn't check through the details properly. I definitely see your point about these Band 20/28 2GB/16GB phones being a bit suspicious looking.

I'm interested in the Special edition for marshmallow as much as the extra bands.

    • +1

Unfortunately at this stage there will be no Taiwan version at Geekbuying :(

    • I was wrong. Geekbuying now have stock on the global edition with b28.

      http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Redmi-N…

      • Well there you go, more evidence of the Band 20/28 RN3P 2GB+16GB.

Weird that this version isn't on the Xiaomi website, but has shown up in several places.

Even weirder that the 3GB+32GB is the well publicised Special Edition from the Taiwan Xiaomi website, but it hasn't shown up in any stores apart from individually sourced options (such as samehada).

        • Xiaomi's regional sites will only show products for their region so Xiaomi's main Chinese site won't have the Taiwan edition.

        • @Clear:

Yeah, I meant the Taiwan site. Should have said …

"Weird that this version isn't on the Taiwan Xiaomi website, but has shown up in several places."

and yet the one that is on the Taiwan site is hardly showing up at all.

        • @Iceman82: It's on the Taiwan website. http://www.mi.com/tw/note3/specs/

        • @Clear:

See my chat with samehada above. The Standard version 2GB+16GB is the standard RN3P from Xiaomi, "kenzo", without Band 20/28.

The Special Edition, "kate", is specifically listed as being 3GB + 32GB and that's the only one that has Band 20/28, according to the description on the Taiwan webpage you just linked to.

There is no such thing as a Special Edition with 2GB+16GB according to the linked website… or at least not based on what Google Chrome Translate is telling me

        • @Iceman82: Ah yes I see now. I'll have to check with GB about it.

        • @Clear: just turn on fastboot mode and run this commandline "fastboot getvar all" and see the product name. Also you can take screenshot of About Phone to see which Android version it is running.

But the best way to verify that these phones does have band 28 is check the 6288 line of NV RAM and do the actual manual network search in B28 area with all other bands disabled. It will require root access and it means unlocked bootloader permission.

If anyone in Melbourne and has ordered this phone can lend me for a few days then I will check that and confirm. I hope they don't run the custom ROM on this version. If this is only release in China, there is likely it is re-flashed with a non-official MIUI ROM. And as a non-official release version, you may not get any future updates or custom ROMs.

        • @samehada: Since I don't have one to test I spoke to Xiaomi about it. They gave me the specifications and it turns out the 2GB/16GB does have b28.

          https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/144344/41719/xiaomiglo…

      • Clear, are you 100% confident this is the B28 edition (codename: kate) rather than the non-B28 edition (codename: kenzo)? If so I'd suggest work out your best deal and post it on OZB. Many have asked for B28. The Taiwanese 3GB/32GB would be preferrable but reseller costs upwards of AU$355 makes it poor value against other B28 phones like the Asus Zenfone3.

        • Yeah I'm very confident about it and I'm waiting for it to be instock so it can be double checked.

        • Zenfone 3 is not that great for their asking price anyway.
          http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8197&idPhone2=…

If you are talking about 5.2" model ZE520KL, it is not really comparable because it has smaller screen 5.2", and with pathetic battery 2600mAH.

With a much more expensive (>$400) model 5.5 ZE550KL, you have more options to choose from than this phone and even at this price, it use slower cpu SD 625 with only 3000mAH battery.

Both of Zenfone 3 use a slower CPU Snapdragon 625 compare to Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon 650.

If you want to compare camera, then better buy LG G4 at this price for much more LTE Bands, faster CPU and better screen, very fast charge. LG G4 has much better value for money than this Zenfone 3. Camera on G4 is one of the best out there for smartphone.

There is just so much overhead cost and the significant part is the shipping cost, maybe if something can be worked out like group buy can bring the price down.

  • Good phone, also has global rom now. For those who can't decide between this or the note 3, here's a video explaining their cons and pros.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uWyNwoFxlw

Basically the 3s is good for those that prefer a 5 inch screen and better battery life. The note offers slightly better performance, sharper display that isn't as bright or accurate, and a slightly better camera. Both are great value for money.

    • Any great hoops to jump though to install global rom?

  • So, no Band 28 on this phone then?

    • Nope.

  • +1

Why did I bother getting a note 2 :( no update to newer android ad that metal looks great

    • +2

Checkout the mi forums for updates. Looks like there is a beta of MIUI 8 already for the Note 2

  • Note that these do not support Quick Charge 3.0. The chip does but the phone does not. The Redmi 3 series take about 2 hours to charge fully (which is still decent when you consider the massive battery capacity).

  • Why are chipset on this listing the Snapdragon 430 where some other listing are Snapdragon 616?

    http://www.everbuying.net/product1163616.html

    • Different phone. This is Redmi 3S and that is Redmi 3 Pro.

  • Which place ships faster or Are they the same geekbuying/aliexpress how long is shipping to sydney anyway

    • +1

It depends. Some stores have stock while others don't. On Aliexpress it generally lists the time it takes to ship & the time it will take to arrive. Most stores have the option of expedited shipping (DHL, FEDEX Etc).

So for instance if it takes 2 days to ship, you can say that it will take between 5-10 business days to Sydney after date of order with DHL.

  • Does this phone (Redmi 3S Pro $182.78 AU) use Global MIUI and can receive update OTA? Or is it different than official international version? If it is different, I prefer to choose Official International Version 32 GB - Gray (Redmi 3S) Because there are many option in the website.
