Not really reliable when new … Who wants to buy it second hand?

Not really reliable when new … Who wants to buy it second hand?

You buy the new ones with a failure pre-loaded by the factory. The refurb ones have already failed at least once, so the overall lifetime fail count is one lower.

      LOL :-)

You are probably the most optimistic OzBargainer… Though your logic actually checks out in my opinion. I'd rather a unit which has gone to a repair center and been checked over by a specialist rather than one straight out of a robotic factory in China.

        • +3

          checked over by a specialist

now who's being most optimistic OzBargainer?

        • @AlexF: I shouldn've used the term 'professional' (as it's paid work), not specialist. But either way, they would have some training at least.

        • @dyl:

.. they would have some training at least.

No doubt that's what you're expected to believe.

        • @AlexF: considering the components required for TVs in this day and age. Nowadays it is a power + video driver board(sometimes these are all in 1 sometimes seperate) & LCD/LED panel. coming off the PCB are the 2 speakers and buttons/control board.

there is nothing to TVs these days.

with the demise of CRTs there is no need to have any "real" electronics experience.

          it comes down to:
          does the TV power on?
10 - if yes then powerboard is ok, goto 30
20 - if no then power board maybe fried —->check/replace power board.
          30 - is there a picture?
40- if yes then all good -END
50 - if no then check/replace video driver board go to 60
60 - test LCD/LED panel with new power board and video driver board.

        • @altomic: wow, so simple this binary universe - it's either total fail or perfect - there are no intermittent problems, there are no environmental problems, there is no gradual components degradation, there are no construction issues, and most importantly, there are no design faults (only apparent at boundary or uncommon combination of conditions).
By the way, where in your flowchart is the panel with its millions of transistors, perfectly uniform two electrode and two polariser film layers, and dozen of backlight LEDs - it is also all perfect or replaced with a perfect panel during "refurbishment"?

Anyway I was looking at these last night, and contemplating one instead of the 40" Kogan for $255 delivered ex Ebay. Beware of shipping costs - Soniq and JB HiFi are quite costly for freight, and the refurbs aren't available in-store from JB.

Bold characters below are to explain model years of Soniq TVs….

    $299 42" T2E42V14A = a 2014 version

    $399 48" Model: T2S48V14A = a 2014 version

    The OP missed these others:

    $399 48" Model: T2E48W13A is 2013 version

    $299 43" Model: T2E43V15C-AU = a 2015 version

    $299 43" Model: T2E43V15B-AU = a 2015 version

AND here is a link to all the Refurbished SMART TV's https://www.soniq.com/au/shop/refurbished/televisions/refurb…

An S instead of E as 3rd digit denotes a "Smart" TV (android, etc), and the 48" seems a good deal:

    48" $399 Model: T2S48V14A = a Smart 2014 version

Not all have IPS panels in them, so watch out for that. I have yet to work out what the A, B, abd C at the end of model numbers means.

        slopping editing

I didn't have to edit any of my links (above) when I copy pasted them straight off the Soniq website :-)

Anyway, what's your thoughts on these things?

        • my experience with soniq is limited to one tv which is 2 years old and has skipped a beat. when i set it up it picked up every digital channel immediately -and that was without an aerial. the media playback is awesome. I've yet to have a format it couldn't read.

with some of these TVs - the specs read well and as they come with an 18 month warranty then I'd be happy to buy one.

I wouldn't buy a smart TV. Dumb TV with media box FTW.

(I copied and pasted the links from the email I received - fixed them now)

    My experience.

These turn up very poorly packed with only a little bubble wrap. First one was csmashed. Replacement took 3 weeks. Replacement then lasted 2 months before failing. Took 2 months to get a refund from them. Only after threatening a credit card chargeback did they refund.

During all this I also bought a new soniq from Jb. Which took 12 days to arrive from only 150km away. When it finally showed up- It was dead out of the box. Jb hifi staff said it was a 50/50 chance of happening.

Needless to say- no more soniqs for me.

Colour washout is bad on these. Only use as a secondary tv & even then don't expect much

    • Depends on the panel, my 42" is excellent. The BEXA I got however was atrocious.

On that note the 42"s used to be $159.

      What happened to the market?

      • I blame Turnbull
