Viofo A119 Dashcam $83.40USD (~ $108.50AUD) Delivered @ Everbuying

130

Been checking on dash cams for the past week and noticed a small decrease in price for the A119 dash cam. With the A118C being quite popular, I have heard that the A119 records better at night than the A118C although it is almost half it's price at the moment. Pretty sure you can get a small discount through a few ways such as creating a new account, mobile website and cash rewards if you want to further decrease the price a bit more.

  • Does it have a sensor to start recording automatically if the car is hit when parked?

    • "motion detection capabilities" not really sure what that means. From my understanding, you need to hard wire it and need's something to cut off the power once it reaches below a certain voltage from the battery for parking mode. You can look at the review for this here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amjcsoExAQU)

    • I have never understood this as a feature. A majority of people mount them in their front windows pointing forward. Also, most people also pull into parking spots with their front pointing in. Most car park damage is done either to the side of the car with opening doors, or to the back of the car on an angle. It's rare that you would be hit directly square on. And even if you are hit hard enough to set the camera off, chances are it will just take a 30 second video of the car parked in front of you. So, unless you always park front out or are planning on buying a few of these for front, back and side coverage…

      • Some people mount one in the front and one in the rear. That way you have a record if your car is damaged when parked. The one at the rear is also useful if you get rear ended.

      • It's actually pretty good to have.

I exclusive park ass in — it would be highly likely the culprit would be captured in some ways should there be any hits when parked that way.

The more high end cameras even have the ability to constantly buffer and a start the recording from X amount of time before the sensors were triggered.

Ordered the A119G (with GPS) for $125 AUD recently (there was 10% off plus the usual discounts) from Everybuying.

This is the one to go for.

Not arrived yet though and the tracking site is all in Chinese so I have no clue where it is. LOL

    • Still not sure if I should get the GPS unit or not

      • +1

The GPS on this one actually clips into the main unit - there's a space specifically for it. It's all very neat.

waiting on another discount code before buying 3x GPS units.

  • Would this be better than the Xiaomi Yi?

    • This one has a capacitor while the Yi runs on lithium battery. Capacitor is better for Australia's summer heat

    Thank you.

    Got two with GPS.

Is there a reason why everyone seems to be getting the gps unit other than showing gps coordinates and speed? still deciding if I should.

      • +1

Watched some video reviews on YouTube and they said GPS has yet to hold up in a court case, so it's purely for display information.

I just ordered one of these A119 from GearBest for 125$ without GPS. Chose DHL shipping cos i can't be effed waiting a month and a half for it to arrive.

Yep just bought it. $145 for GPS version with Expedited shipping (DHL,UPS etc)

I've been looking at these - the GPS unit makes it much more convenient to get it on / off your windscreen and it means that the usb cable runs out the top - not the side.

i'd very much rather NOT have my speed embedded in the data… the last thing I want is to be at fault for a crash that was obviously not my fault, for being slightly over the speed limit (e.g. 3km/h over the limit)
I know you can easily go calculate your speed, but I just feel at unease if I ever have to use my video file for an insurance claim.

although this being OzB I've got 2 questions
        1) is there a way to remove GPS data from the videos?
        2) if someone else is injured, is the police allowed to seize the dashcam, and if so, are they allowed to review it, in it's entirety and prosecute me?
(concerned if the police have evidence for all my other driving offences that are not be related to the accident)

        • +1

          1) I think there is an option somewhere
          2) Don't get a big micro sd card so it will constantly overlap it self which means the police can't see too many of your past driving offences
*I don't really know about laws relating to dash cam. I'm sure others can answer your question :)

          @madn3ss:
          1) if you are speeding and accidents occur then don't present your video clips!
          2) if you are doing all the right things, then the speed record can help protecting you more if there is no witness.

My work involves aspects of criminality. I have taught myself to try doing my best to cover my a.. if somehow I would need to keep my name cleared of any wrong-doings. Records of GPS' would help me in this matter too.
