Never get reviews from that site, try reviews below or another site

So all those users reporting the time randomly changing are invalid? Nice…..

        • +1

The time is set automatically from the local radio signal. So if it was incorrect it would quickly be updated.

        • +1

i've had one for 2 years and never had an issue…

        • If you take into account that most of the users have only written that one review then the answer to your question is yes.

    • Human nature. Anything expensive gets bad review.

  • +1

had one for a couple years now, never experienced time changing randomly as mentioned in the reviews, only gripe would be the control buttons on the top are angled, makes it a bit difficult to find the correct button in the dark.

Best clock radio ever. I have this for the past 3 years. Only bug I found was the display goes funny for a minute at 11:28 pm.

    • does it have back up battery in the event of power outages?

      • +2

No but when power comes back, the time is automatically adjusted.

      • +2

The time is auto set over the air (as long as you get digital radio stations at your house, if you don't then you're screwed).

The alarm isn't 'lost' during a power outage either. So no need for a backup battery. Once you have one of these auto time setting devices, you'll never go back to the manual way

    • Was there any strange noises accompanying the display issue? ;)

    • +1

Yeah I get that on mine too. Kinda strange during that one minute but still a great clock radio

      Woah I see what's going on here…

      Consider 11:
      1 + 1 = 2

      Consider 28:
      2 + 8 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1

      Now, 2+1=3

      Half Life 3 confirmed.

      • +3

        (woosh…)

    • Does this have an antenna? A big long antenna is not convenient for me

      • Wired antenna.

  • Does this have AM stations? Looking at the features i'm guessing it doesn't…

    • +1

It doesn't have AM, but most of the AM stations simulcast to digital, so you'd still be able to pick them up.

It just cost $9, no more than that.

  • Initially thought it's for "internet radio", but nope.

Still interested however, just not sure how's reception in my bedroom and there's no way to find out unless I get a radio…

    • Correct…. Where do you live? There are maps for showing what suburbs are covered by DAB.

    • Yeah tricky one. I've found reception for Adelaide radiates as far south as just beyond Mt Barker, and as north as Kulpara. Then the hills etc really kill the reception.

      • I had good reception all the way out in Langhorne Creek the other day.

        • Nice. I hadn't bothered turning back to DAB on my car when it dropped out without fail after Mt Barker, so maybe next time I'm heading to the SE I'll test again hehe. :)

    • I'd be surprised if there are too many dwellings these days that can't get digital radio reception. If you can get digital TV reception in your house then digital radio will be just fine.

If you prefer internet radio, I recommend the Tune-in radio and a bluetooth speaker. Tune-in has a wake-up feature.

  • Just bought one.
Using it purely as a bedside clock.

  • Coming up $81.25 for me.

    • +1

      Apply CHOICE20 Code :)

  • thanks OP, just got one, will come in handy listening to the footy finals and as a bedside clock.

  • Thanks OP. Was after a digital radio.

  • +1

I'd be all over this if it had a headphone out / line out…

  • Does this bluetooth out?

Ie can I use it to send digital radio to my UE Megaboom?

    • no.

  • Thanks Trent, managed to get in whilst they were $52 after the discount. They must have sold those 250 units in a matter of minutes.

  • Anyone know if the brightness off setting is completely dark?

I don't like being able to see the time at all at night

    • nothing a bit of duct tape cant fix lol

      • +10

nothing a bit of duct tape cant fix lol

That's going to hurt when he pulls it off to see the time or go to the toilet.

      • jokes aside the easiest way would probably be just put something in front of it eg. a small box of some sort…(if not possible to turn the screen off)

        • +1

Haha yeah the same book has been in front of my previous one for years.

        • @miguelsanchez: I hope it's one that'd actually put you to sleep and not the opposite ;)

      • +3

handy since the duct tape is in the bedside table

    • Can't speak for this model but that's the case with the XDRDS21BT.

    • Anyone know if the brightness off setting is completely dark?

      http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4257026131.pdf
PDF says HIGH, MIDDLE & LOW but no OFF

    • no. you can't turn the display completely off. but it's still a great little unit

  • Thanks OP, bought one. Too bad it's still listed in the Sony Store as 169 - I still have that $25 voucher which would have saved more than 20%. Oh well, please post when they have something cheap in the Sony store so I can use it then. :D

  • Friend has one. Sounds pretty crap but at least no bugs. The Bush BCR35DABW sounds better but that radio hangs/crashes every now and then when the alarm turns on, when set to certain radio stations (turns on but no sound) which is not good for an alarm! Went through 2 and same problem.

  • Read the reviews before buying - turned me off

  • I just use an old discarded smartphone (you've got lots of those right!), $0.00. Lots of free clock apps, wifi ready and customizable for dimming, animation etc.

Most people sell their old smartphones and most people also like to make it to work on time instead of relying on an old smartphone that may or may not get you up in the morning.

      • My old smartphone hasn't failed me in the last 10 years, it's also battery backed. I don't think reliability is an issue, maybe more an aesthetics one.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one, let's see if this will get me up in the morning. If not, it'll make a good radio I guess.

  • Is the LED always on or can you set it to only light up when a button is pressed? I hate having any light in my room when I go to bed.

How odd, I just got a call from Sony eBay asking for my home address because they don't deliver to Parcel Lockers.
Well I'm not giving them my home address so I asked them to cancel the order and the person said they don't offer refunds for change of mind…
Good luck to them if they want to try to keep my money and not deliver the clock.

Arrived today. Good reception of local digital channels. Sounds great given that its a bedside CLOCK RADIO.
Hopefully its not too bright at night.

    • Cool, remember it should different brightness lvls

  • Mine arrived today as well.
    Not bad for $65.

Unfortunately i purchased one of these as i am looking for a digital clock radio. It was overly bright at night first night. Next night turned it down and it can't be read in the daylight. My wife has a Phillips once which auto does the brightness. Much much better.

Controls also are too complicated on the Sony. This Sony is a piece of garbage. A shame they don't take returns.

  • Can anyone confirm if it has 24hr clock display? Thanks

    • Yes you can switch between 12/24 hours.

  • I received the radio and tried it. This is good.
Build quality is plasticky (just like any other radios), but it looks good and I got good reception at home. I stored my 10 presets mainly for the 80s/90s/smooth musics.

Sound quality is just like any other clock radio. $65 is just about the right price. $100+ is too much for this radio. Whoever mentioned this was not easy obviously didn't read the manual.
    Overall recommended purchase.
