EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Graphics Card @ B&H Photo Video US$450.09 (~AU$584.47) delivered

With a slightly altered "Big Maxwell" chip, EVGA's GeForce GTX 980 Ti Graphics Card is geared towards high resolution gaming at fast frame rates. With its 2816 CUDA cores clocked at 1000 MHz and 6GB of GDDR5 vRAM coupled with a 384-bit interface, the GTX 980 Ti packs quite a processing punch. While the card operates under its thermal limits NVIDIA's GPU Boost can increase the clock speed up to 1076 MHz for smoother gameplay.

How does this compete when you can get a 1070 for the same price off Amazon?

    • +8

      I would go the 1070.

      • +5

I already have a 1070 ;), I was just failing to see the 'deal' when you can get a better card for the same price.

        • Which brand is that better card?. Is it as good as an EVGA brand?.

        • +1

My bad I thought you were asking a question. I agree 1070 FTW.

@hollykryten: I picked up an ASUS Strix OC for $465 usd with shipping and I'd say ASUS have a decent rep, however EVGA has a really good international warranty so if that is a big deal for you it'd probably be better to pick one of them up. If my card dies I think it needs to get sent back to Amazon or something.

for example is cheaper than this 980Ti.

        • @xivion:

Yes if the card doesn't have international warranty then the card would need to be shipped back to the USA which knowing through Australia Post would be costly for some thing the size of a graphics card box. You just have to hope that it doesn't break down during the warranty period.

          @hollykryten:

          EVGA GTX 1070 FTW for USD439 + 18USD shipping.

        • @OzzyMozzy:

That's a far better buy than what this thread deal is. Yes why would you pay for an EVGA GTX 980 Ti when you can get an EVGA GTX 1070 for almost the same price.

        • @hollykryten: The only major reason would be if you have a Hackintosh. Currently they don't have drivers to support the Pascal cards, so this is the next best option.

The 1070 will top the 980ti in performance…destroy it even for dx12

      • True. Look above. An EVGA GTX 1070 for almost the same price. If i had the choice i know i'd go for the GTX 1070 over that GTX 980 Ti.

      • Maybe not destroy but 1070 slightly faster at DX12, generally slightly slower at DX11 (for 4K gaming)

One point re coolers, get the 1070 with the reference cooler if possible, personally I have given up on after market multifan coolers … they are great creating resonance frequencies or beats and they dump all of the heat into the case rather than out the back!

        From reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/4lnrq5/4k_gtx_1070_…

HardwareUnboxed's video did not have 4K benchmarks, but they were included on their written article. I took the numbers from there and presented a similar chart comparing the 1070 against the 980 Ti:
        Performance Summary:
        http://i.imgur.com/dOUy9La.png

TLDR: GTX 1070 is 3% SLOWER on average than 980 Ti at 4k resolutions
So dont go dumping your 980 Tis to get GTX 1070s :D

        • get the 1070 with the reference cooler if possible

I disagree. Sure, a lot of them aren't blower style and push the heat inside the case but if the rest of your system's sufficiently cooled, it shouldn't be a problem. My experience (and what seems to be the general consensus) is that reference coolers are loud and hot. What's more is that they cost more than the aftermarket coolers so it makes little sense to get a Founders Edition. If importing, just have to be sure you're getting one from EVGA for the international warranty.

3% is negligible really and the same price gets you 2GB more VRAM with the GTX 1070 and much better efficiency.

GTX1070 strix is $429US from Amazon and its such a good looking card :)

  • GTX 1070 from Amazon/Newegg is better value indeed.

    Is this a bargain? Yes.

Is it a good buy? No.

Even if you're thinking of SLI'ing an existing card I would recommend selling your Ti and getting a 1080 instead.

Then again, if you have a 980Ti,you know this already.
