  • That 3gb though.

my HD7970 3GB was playing pretty much everything at 1080p without issues before it pooped.

      • You neglect to take into account the time period you bought and used the card.

If you bought a 7970 in 2012 and used it up until today then you're fine with 3gb.

If you bought a 3gb card today and expect it to remain relevant up until 2019 and beyond then I wouldnt bet on 3gb being sufficient.

Probably worth considering that a 1060 3GB is far lower in the 'foodchain' this generation compared to a 7970 at the time it was released. It's unrealistic for a low-to-mid-end card to last for very long playing games at high settings etc. That said, there has been a bit of a price hike this release cycle, so I can understand if some people believe that these cards will let them play at higher settings at 1080p for more than 2-3 years.

Still using my 7950 OC Crossfire setup. So has performance in GPU processor but limited to 3GB.

Not interested in upgrading cards till there are powerful DirectX 12 cards.

thats dam cheap considering similar performance to GTX970 and those are still selling for $250-$300 used…

  • Another $40 off if you were able to register for the AMEX deal.

    • I enrolled my card for this only today, so it hopefully will still be available.

      • I got my confirmation email instantly. It won't show up under your "offers" section but it's there if you get the email. Good luck!

        • Haha thanks. Meant it as in I already have it, just saying the deal was still available today.

  • would you guys take this over a ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon Rx 470 4GB OC Edition ?

1060 blows Rx 470 out of the water. It's faster than an Rx 480 in most scenarios.

        • Yeah, I'd hold fire until I see some actual reviews of the 3gb card. It's inferior to the 6gb 1060 in a lot of other areas..

      • +3

u my friend have been misinformed. by 2 tiers

        2x RX460 < 1060, 2x 470 = 1070, 2xRX480 < 1080

where ever you read your info from, delete it from your bookmarks.

      • All of your comparisons are very wrong. I point you to pass mark http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html and have a look where the 10xx cards are compared to the RX4xx are. The RX cards are cheaper for a reason.

      • No,
480 is up against the 1060 and they trade blows here and there 1060 better at dx11 and 480 better at dx12. The prices are skewed because of major supply issues AMD side and all the miners are grabbing the cards.

The 490 and 490x or 5 is what will compete with the 1070 and 1080. If rumours are to be believed it should be an awesome match up.

Well providing they can keep supply up which they haven't with the 480.

under aged people shouldnt be allowed to buy that many videocards

        • @vid_ghost:

They shouldn't be using them for grabbing coal either.

      • wtf

      • 1060=480

      • I stand corrected lol

  • Patiently waiting for the 6Gb 1060 to drop

  • I'M SO CONFUSED, WHAT SHOULD I BUY
    3gb 1060?
    6gb 1060?
    4gb rx480?
    8gb rx480?

    • Wait until prices come down. 480 is overpriced due to stock shortages. 1060 is overprices due to 480 shortages. The 480 should be south of 400 dollars if there wasn't the supply shortage.

      6gb 1060 for sure

    • 6GB on mid tier cards are a waste imo.

You need 1440P to take advantage of the ram. but when you go 1440p, the GPU cant keep up anyway.

better to stick to a 3GB and go for a 1070+ if you want "future proof" i guarantee a 6gb 1060 will not be much better than a 3GB in the forseeable future.

6g 1060, do not buy gainward, it is not good as Asus or Msi

      • Clueless regurgitated kiddy forum opinion is clueless.

        • What?

        • @sydracing:

          In plain and simple terms?

What you posted was absolute bullshit.

(Previously I was trying to be polite)

        • @sydracing:

At least try to explain your reasoning as to why you think Gainward is not as good as Asus or MSI.

        • @octagonalman: Gainward was a top brand in video card before, but now they sell cards at cheap price due to low cost on customer service. If your card got problem in Australia, you need to take a long time to get fixed or new card replacement. Their cards still are on good quality, only for just in case happens.

        • @llama:
Please be polite man, when you get the pain from Gainward, what you said above are bullshit.
You didn't experience that pain, but others got that. Try to respect other's opinion please.
I don't want to argue with anyone, just give my opinion.

I was, however my comments only relate to what you originally wrote…. which was that the cards were not as good as Asus or MSI.

Then after we responded you said that they are still quality, and now seem to be talking about Gainward having an inferior Warrany / RMA process, which is different thing to what you originally wrote.

I now realise you were probably trying to be helpful, however it originally just came across as "brand hate" because of the omission of what exactly you were referring to (warranty).

        • @llama: thank you. It was my fault, I didn't explain my post clearly. I am not "brand hate". But after I experienced the pain and learnt the history of Garward, I realized that better to buy product from current top range brands.
