AmEx - 15% Bonus Using Points for Woolworths Charges

131

Hidden deal? Targeted? No idea, I just went to use my points for charges and noticed I could get 15% bonus for certain charges at Woolworths (only recent ones I think).

Just login to your account and click "Use points for charges", I am assuming if you don't have any eligible transactions, then nothing will appear.

How do I join the Fresh Food Army as commanded by The Naked General?

  • I've never seen a use points for charges on my DJs AMEX (and I bought food from Woolies today too) … Are you able to provide a screenshot of this points for charge thing (blanking out all private information of course) please?

    • +1

No sorry, I can't see it anymore after using it, maybe someone else that can see the offer can chip in with a screenshot.

Can confirm I'm also seeing this on my Platinum Edge

I get it too, it equates to about $8 something per 1000 points . That's what the screen tells me

  • Does this mean you're using ascent points to pay back your credit spending at woolworths? Is this a good way to spend your points? Mine says I can use 16409 points for a 132.75 credit.

This is a really bad way to use points. Better would be too transfer your ascent points to virgin points during those 15% extra points deals.

      • Ok thanks. I'll wait for the virgin points deals.

      • It's not optimal, but it's a quick and easy way to get value from the points if you're not going to fly and don't want the risk and hassle of converting to Virgin points and trying to sell them.

For 15500 pts + $22 you get one way business class between Syd & Mel, which is usually sold at $750 in cash.

      • Which would be a normal seat, just at the front with food perks? (yes this is a legitimate question) In this case, book a $60 seat through Jetstar etc and take the $130 odd on offer and you will be in front. But normally I agree, using points for credit is a bad idea.

        • With Virgin Australia you'll have larger leg room, wider seats on board and unlimited booze in airport lounge pre boarding if you ask me. You get a pack of peanuts in economy while having proper food in plates in business, regardless of how shorthaul that flight is.

        • @jkcat: Didn't know about the pre flight lounge access. Cheers. What about free transfers to the airport?

        • @tunzafun001:
Yes. Transfers are free but are limited to a 500km radius from Sydney Airport or Melbourne Tullamarine Airport only.

        • @jkcat: Ok, lastly how do we book / find out how many points are required (through Amex online - Rewards tab?)

          Cheers

        • @BKZ:

I couldn't find any info regarding transfers on the virgin webiste (except for long haul international flights)?

        • @tunzafun001:
Im sorry it was satire. I suck at it i know!

On a serious note all airlines offer transfers for international flights. Well they definitely dont pick you up from home. They only transfer between domestic and international airports….

        • @BKZ: Many do offer a pick up service from your home. It is complimentary, but you need to call up. But again, I'm basing this on international business flights (never bothered with domestic business)

        • @tunzafun001:
          Interesting.

          Any links?

I fly a fair bit for business and would love this option. Not that i pay for it but more for just in case

  • Hi guys, I'm abit new to using the points to the best $$ outcome. I have about 23,000 and a mounting credit card debt but depleting cash balance. Thinking the 15% extra on woolies purchases means $8 per 1,000 points as opposed to $7. is there other ways to get more $$ out of the reward points than these bonus 'credit back' offers? I know some mentioned the virgin ascent points above - but besides upgrading your seat what is the go? having never done it, does it take very little points or something to use ascent points to book a flight? Say perth to melb? or upgrade to business class? otherwise what's so great about goign the ascent points route as opposed to getting credit back?

Otherwise any better options for using the amex points? need to make a decision before the current 15% bonus disappears i guess…
