Yomojo (OPTUS) -- Pay 1st Month, Receive 2nd & 3rd Free: $19.90/1GB = $6.63 a month; $29.90/5GB = $9.97; + Unlimited Text & Talk

880
YMJAW

Hello everyone,

I stumbled upon this prepaid deal looking through Whistleout. Yomojo is having a special where you buy 1 month and receive the 2nd and 3rd month free.

All plans include Unlimited Text and Talk:
$19.90 for 1gb = $6.63 a month
$29.90 for 5gb = $9.97 a month
$44.90 for 10gb = $14.97 a month

Other key information:
- Optus 4G Provider
- 30 day recharge period
- Service must be activated within 30 days of purchase (although I was told over the phone it is actually 45 days)
- Promo code: YMJAW

I have no idea when this special ends. I called up to get further info and the service rep knew about and confirmed this special was still available. She said it will automatically recharge for free at the beginning of the 2nd month and 3rd month. Apparently you will receive a confirmation email confirming this once you sign up. When I asked if there is any catch or extra fees, she informed me the only way to pay is online, which incurs a 2% surcharge fee. The surcharge fee is annoying but I am still going to give the $29.90 offer (or technically $30.50) a go.

I am interested to hear Ozbargainer's thoughts on Yomojo. I have never heard/used them before. What does everyone think?

P.S This is only my second post on here so be nice (:

    dont understand how it works

    • +3

You pay for the first month in full, and then you automatically receive the 2nd and 3rd month free.

      • -1

        yes but this?

        $19.90 a month for 1gb = $6.63 a month
        $29.90 a month for 5gb = $5.98 a month
        $44.90 a month for 10gb = $14.97 a month

        • +8

After the 3 months, that's how much each month would have cost you after getting months 2 and 3 for free..

        • +8

That is the maths. If you pay for 1 month at $19.90, it works out to be $6.63 a month for the 3 months.

        • -3

@charligirl: In Balls' defence, your maths were shit until you fixed them after his comment, as per below…

        • +3

@StewBalls: I had one figure incorrect? Which I fixed within 5 minutes of posting.

        • +1

@charligirl: all balls seem to be off-course today!!

    • Do you submit report to this response branch for inappropriate neg votes?

Although, conveying your understanding first really demonstrates the effort made on your behalf to understand so that all neg votes are unsubstantiated

  • +2

I like this deal, but not sure how you got this:
    $29.90 a month for 5gb = $5.98 a month

    • Yeah sorry, that was a typo. Just fixed it up. Thanks (:

    • Can a summary of the findings be updated on the OP?

Yomojo is the resurrected Yatango. I tried the latter way back so they had my email address and sent me the code YMJWIN02 which looks generic and is valid until the end of August. It has to be used by calling a rep. The offer for this code says it can be used on a Personalised or Unlimited plan. The former includes a mix that reduces all but data to zero, so you could for example get no included calls or text and 1GB data for 3 months for $11. Then you'd have to cancel or continue on that mix, or change to some other mix. I considered it but it was too much hassle given that there are so many data deals flying around.

They're online billing only, you can't buy Yomojo recharge vouchers at outlets, so you'd have to give them CC or DC details. I guess they'd be like just another Optus MVNO in terms of coverage and signal.

    • +1

and Yatango was a resurrected Savvytel

      • Yatango was a resurrected Savvytel?? Really?

      • Hmm, some searching shows that Yatango took over a liquidated Savvytel.

    • So this is post-paid instead of prepaid?

      • I would consider it prepaid since you pay up front and if you exceed your quota you have to buy more credit.

        • Quote 1

"They're online billing only, you can't buy Yomojo recharge vouchers at outlets, so you'd have to give them CC or DC details."

          Quote 2

"I would consider it prepaid since you pay up front and if you exceed your quota you have to buy more credit."

Quote 1 reasons postpaid because of the billing and inability to buy recharge vouchers needing credit card details. However, Quote 2 allows pay up front option. My inference is the pay up front and recharge are all online?

        • +2

@lovepeoplenotmoney: I regard it as prepaid because postpaid means you use the service and they bill you for what you used later. Prepaid on the other hand, you pay for a certain amount, and if you run out, you have to pay up front again. Also postpaid involves a contract so that they can recover their money. Sometimes there is a handset purchase to pay off too. Prepaid on the other hand if you run out of quota, you have to pay for some more.

Postpaid is like dining in a classy restaurant. Prepaid is like buying your lunch in a food court. These days it's tending to prepaid because some people don't like contracts.

Online billing (actually online payment is more accurate and what I should have written) is more to do with how they receive their money.

          Clear as mud, mate?

    • Just to add that the code YMJAW can also be used for Personalised plans, not just the 3 plans above. I verified it by going to the site and editing the plan and the promo code was still accepted for a mix of no calls, no SMS and 1GB data for $11. So they should have posted to OzBargain in the first place instead of sending me email. :)

Nice find! I'm about to port out from the $5 vaya plan. Thanks!

    • +1

lol same, I was just waiting for a new deal to change to :)

  • In the T&C's for the offer it claims that the service must be activated by 11:59 pm on 30 June 2016.

    • +2

I think like so many provider websites, there are a lot of out of date documents floating around.

      • +2

I can confirm that once you order, you have at LEAST 30 days to activate your sim. I logged into my Yomojo account and it allowed me to choose my activation day up until the 27th of October (60 days after date of purchase)

  • +1

Works with pre paid and or monthly billing?

    • I believe it is just for prepaid (that is the one I ordered). Not 100% sure though.

  • Great deal but would like to know whether it is only for the monthly billing option? I'd prefer pre paid if it works for that too.

    • +1

I believe it is just for prepaid (that is the one I ordered). Not 100% sure though.

  • After the third months? Full price?

  • I got my dad on yomojo, used to be yatango. Their system for seeing what you have used is really really poor. Basically useless if you ask me, but he uses so little it doesn't matter usually.

    • wouldn't it be cheaper to go onto an aldi 365 day plan for $5 or $10 if he doesn't use it much?

      • Nerd1, how much is the SIM for Aldi one? So it has one year of expiry ?

      • Aldi pricing is about 20% more expensive for calling and texting. So not worth it. Yo mojo is 90 days, which is enough time to use the $10 you have to put in.

        • I looked at Aldi but it doesn't allow roaming so Yomojo is great.

    • I agree cloudy. You can only check balance online. Really annoying. Does have a three months expiry for the pre-paid business

  • +4

Note that you need to port in in order to get the 2 free months:

" If you are porting your number, you will get two months of free service on your second and third month. If you are getting a new number, you’ll only get one month free on your second month."

    Great deal.

  • +2

Anyone actually on this deal that can comment on reception, service etc.?

    • -1

optus network. Not as good as Telstra (where I live / go).

    • Reception is same as Optus. Which is fine in most places I find.

  • Is this like another Amaysim? Similar plans/prices and colour scheme.

    • Yeah, pretty much. They are competitors

    • +1

      Is this real life?

      • +2

        or just fantasy?

        • +2

          Caught in a landslide …

        • No. Escape from reality.

        • Open your eyes, look up to the skies and seeeeee…

Use this for 3 months then switch to lebara $299 for a year with 25% off at coles atm.

I think lebara recharges dont expire for a long time.

    • any chance you have a link - cant seem to find the year prepaid option on their website

      • Yeh cant seem to find it either although when I go to recharge it comes up its deffinatly an option

        National Plan 12 - $300.00

And the %25 off is at coles atm finishes on the 31st and can be found on ozbargain

  • Did i get it right? Cashrewards is for month-to-month plan and not for this particular prepaid offer?

  • At what point do you put in the discount code? Is it on the payment screen?

Also, if I'm porting and hit pay, I assume it will only port when I get the sim & activate it?

    • +1

Yes, once you register an account you can see your set activation day and change it to your liking. Seems like you have ~60 days from purchase. So plenty of time for the sim to get to you.

  • Can you use the $20 referral straight away when purchasing the SIM card?

    • Doubt it. Usually referrals are credited on activation of the service.

  • +1

This offer is not available with any other promotion or offer

Can anyone confirm whether referral codes are actually working?

    • My brother used my number as a referral and neither of us have received any confirmation of the $20 credit.

    • I signed up with referral, got activated, now have $20 credit.

But credit only lasts for 3 months.

  • +1

So with referall you will get an extra month for about 10$

    • PM me for referral number.

  • If you need a referral or want to add your own referral code, Use the referral wiki.

Referral solicitation in comments is not allowed.

  • It looks like excess data is charged right? Can someone recommend an app that will essentially turn off my data when I near the monthly limit?

    • I use My Data Manager (for Android)

      • Also available for iOS

But doesn't turn off data (AFAIK) on iOS.

  • Love that they included brazil on the list of included coutries…i use amaysim and it has 10 countries i dont need lol might try this one! :)

BTW, any suggestions for cheap calls to brazil? I tried skype but the lag is crazy….

    thanks

  • I don't see an option to port my number ? Am I missing something or this offer valid for new numbers only ?

  • hi guys,

i am with woolworths mobile till 14th september, then going overseas for 2 weeks so was going to sign up for this and not activate the new sim until end of september (that way i don't have to pay anything for the last 2 weeks of september while i'm not in the country).

However, reading ACMA rules etc it seems like once i sign up for this deal with porting option the porting will probably begin in a few days after order REGARDLESS of whether i activate their new sim or not.

Is that true? If it is, I will just wait until end of september when i get back from overseas and then sign up i guess…

    • +1

Once you sign up you'll have an option to set your activation date. They shouldn't port you before that date. But you only have ~60 days from the day you sign up to choose from.

    • Yomojo allowed me to set my activation date as far back as 27th of October (60 days after purchase). So you should be fine.

  • +4

I once asked them why they did not have a payment option that did not incur any additional fees as required by the TCP. They replied that they did, you could pay by sending a cheque to them. LOL.

Still I've been with them for about 14 months and apart from that, it's been pretty good.

  • For anyone who have signed up, do you get any confirmation email that you'll get the 2nd and 3rd month free? I can't see anything on the tax invoice/my dashboard that indicates that.

    • +1

I've done a screenshot for that, but had a chat with a rep before and he confirmed, also I did that a few month ago (was invited as former yatango client) and it worked well.

  • +1

Hi Guys - FYI the activation date shows once you pay and log in. For me it was auto set for 16 days from now, which I'll change when the sim arrives. This is a great deal, lets see how things go!

  • Has anyone received their sim in the mail yet?

    • +1

Not yet. I called yesterday as I had no confirmation it had been sent and apparently it hadn't been due to their system missing my first address line. Now they have reprocessed it.

    • +1

Just got an email my sim has been sent. If you haven't received one stating it's on the way then make sure you give them a call or you could be waiting forever.

    • I received mine last week. I activated it and was up and runnning within a few hours.

  • Does anyone know if theres an expiration date for this promo? My phone plan ends in mid Oct and ive set a reminder to buy next week unless it expires by then

  • Talked to the live chat today after my sim hadn't arrived (ordered on 29 August).

Turns out the transaction did not go through. Would have been nice to know earlier. The live chat representative wanted me to enter my card details again through live chat. Wasn't prepared to do that. So I've asked that my account be cancelled. Shame really, it seemed like a decent deal.

If you haven't received your sim yet, definitely suggest giving them a call or going on live chat. I would have been waiting forever for a sim that would have never arrived if I hadn't chased this up.

  • +1

Was left extremely disappointed by the provider. Had the same issue with not receiving my SIM.

After activating my SIM and porting my number over, I was not eligible for the 2 month free promo. Apparently the 2 month promo is not to be used in conjunction with referrals (what.). What this implies is that should you want to enjoy the promo, do not invite your friends for the credit.

Furthermore, the service provider was dismissive and merely quoted T&Cs.

    Will not recommend Yomojo.

    • +1

WHAT!? That is a joke. You should complain and ask to speak to a manager. Where does it say it can't be used in conjunction with referrals?
I'd threaten to complain to the ombudsman if they still don't budge (that usually works). And then actually complain if they are still refusing.
      That is a joke.

    • Yomojo fiasco
Hi everyone, if you got scammed by Yomojo denying you the right to use your balance to buy subscription packs, know that Yomojo changed their T&Cs after everyone got in, and then inappropriately denied everyone in retrospect. Yomojo admitted unable to specify a revision cut off date but their fishing net disadvantaged a lot of customers.

As a result, Yomojo used half of my "remaining credit balance" for a subscription pack.

Furthermore, a lot of customers had auto top up deactivated but were charged by Yomojo without consent. Such unconsented charging violates consumer rights. Ask Yomojo to remove your credit card from their system. Around late Dec 2016 to early Jan 2017, Yomojo admitted to system glitches. Please check your credit card and file a complaint against Yomojo unauthorised charging.

As anyone would, I want out and to take their "remaining credit balance" owed by Yomojo. However, Yomojo have highly unethical administrative practices in dispute handling too. I asked on your behalf to rectify this huge mess. Yomojo told me they would only if customers file a complaint. In such a way Yomojo hope none of us complain to avoid compensating us.

A TIO complaint was lodged and the support manager feigned ignorance of not understanding what "remaining credit balance" meant to wait and delay until after close of business on my last day of my subscription to repeat the same question three times. Yomojo purpose was to force me into chewing into my "remaining credit balance" so there would be nothing to reimburse. Dodgy af huh, but wait it gets worse.

Yomojo deliberately waited after expiry so that there was no service for a whole weekend + few days to call me and say the reimbursement will be processed. Yomojo has willful disregard for customers.

I strongly urge everyone to file complaints with the TIO to get your owed remaining balance back to your bank account from when Yomojo intentionally misdirected everyone. Also, to check your credit card for unauthorised charges. These violations must be reported to the TIO and punished for consumer exploitation. Yomojo fiasco

Please feel free to private message if you need discretion.

  • Just a heads up about the referral credit: it expires in 90 days and can only be used as Pay As You Go credit, and not buy another month of the plan you're on. Expiry can be extended, but it requres you to top up (min $10).

  • tried signing up today and the live chat rep told me this promo ended 2 weeks ago :(

  • I activated my sim 24 hours ago and it has just been ported (was going from Optus-Yatango(Optus)). I called customer service to double check the promo and they confirmed the two free months have been applied to the account.
    Very happy customer :D

  • Is everyone getting BOTH referral credit and the 2 months free?

The comment above (climaxjewel's) mentions yomojo staff invalidating the 2 months free if a referral code is entered :(

I've signed up not plugging in a referral code cause I don't want to go through that $hit of arguing with the rep if the 2 months invalidates.

    • Yes, I had my 2 months free invalidated because of the referral code :-( They said the "two months free deal" couldn't be used with any other offer (pointed to the small print). I asked why did they dump the 2 months free rather than the $20 referral bonus? So they swapped it around - I am now back on two months free but I lost the $20 referral credit. Too little time to argue for anything more…

      • Ah thanks. It's still a great deal but yomojo really should make that clear on the offer front page before sign up. Or at least they should add a pop up prompt advising after the promo code entered.
Good they let you swap to the 2 months though. From climaxjewel's comment above sounds like he had trouble getting them to swap, which was the trouble I didn't want to go through.
