  • Is it possible somehow to connect/add more storage on to it, or make your standard hdd wirelessly avaliable out of your home network?

    Thank you:)

    • No its not. You need a proper NAS to do what you want to do in this example.

    • You can't add to this device, but you can get HDD enclosures that support WiFi.

    • Some modems or routers have a USB port that allows connecting a standard USB hard drive that can be shared over your home wifi network.

Cheaper to buy a new modem or modem router with a USB port. It'll let you plug in any external USB drive to share across your network.
Kmart and target sells cheap tplink modem routers with these features.
Of course, this means it's no longer portable.

      • Thats why i said out of my home network:)

i have the netgear modem and I've attached a 5tb to its usb, i use it over ftp but its sooo slow :(

So i asked what i can do to make it accessible when im out of the house:) oh and how can i improve the speed of reading data over ftp or is there any other speedier way:)?

      • This serves a different purpose. You can bring this hard disk on trips to store photos and you can bring it somewhere remote and share files with multiple users.

This is a piece of junk.
I purchased one on clearance special from Officeworks last year, returned it within the hour.
You CANNOT use the wireless function when it is plugged into a power source or computer.
Yes you read that correctly, to utilise the wireless function it has to be running off of it's battery.
I thought i could keep it on/connected and wirelessly connect to multiple computers etc but that simply isn't an option.
It is just an expensive paperweight and an ugly one at the at AVOID.

I'm pretty sure I've run this drive from the mains before using WIFI. There is some logic within the unit to detect if the USB plugged in is a power source only, or if it is a USB port of a PC. Some power supplies detect it wrongly as USB power as opposed to a proper power supply and hence why it switches off the wireless mode to be Mass storage mode. I find it better when it is a single USB power supply @ 2/2.4A and it will detect it better.

It is a slow drive though even in Mass Storage - being only USB 2.0 etc. So expect no more than 40MB/Sec at this speed. Wireless transfers arent any faster either, but it is good to share between mainly mobile devices.

  • No deal.

Officeworks price beat PClan because free shipping so can be got for 61ish bucks.

Great for traveling, fill up with movies, TV, etc and use your ipad/tab with the free app.

Works on battery or plugged in, wireless turns off when mounted on pc via USB. battery lasts fair while.

Is larger than I imagined looks like a square discman.

I use it solely for media running 2 android tabs and for this it works great, we'll worth 61 beans.

  • I have one of the drives . Great for travelling with a baby

Not having to plug a hard drive in makes it easier to travel with a baby?

      • +2

gather it's one of those weird babies without a USB port.

      • +2

Couple of hours of downloaded YouTube baby videos on the wireless HD connected to my nexus tablet will keep my baby entertained for a good few hours. Saves on mobile broadband charges.

And yes I'm talking about a walking talking pooping baby.

          Hopefully not all at once.

theres open source firmware for this if anyone is interested. suppose to give you additional features.

Looks closed sourced and very expensive to me.

    • Expensive and not too sure who'd use the extra features for that cost. LOL at the problem statements to be "Apple 1st World problems" exclusive. So realistically you'd have to be an Apple geek who needs to for some reason SSH to a black box device "just because", then this firmware really isnt for you.
