    No freedom plus, NO DEAL!

    • If you want 3GB data and $30 recharge credit to spend on the Google Play store you could activate on the Data Pass offer.

      • I don't think Data Pass gives you any Google Play store credit.
        Never did.

        • +5

It does. It's not explicit but you do receive $30 recharge credit which of course can be used on the Google Play store.

        • +1

          @sween64:
You get recharge credit when you recharge
but I'm pretty sure you get nothing when you activate on Data Pass.
Though I hope I'm mistaken. I'll try again soon.

        • @Phoebus:

Loaded with $30 to get you started - credit expiry and bonuses are determined by the Pre-Paid offer you select. (From the rear of the Starter Kit)

          mobiles or tablets
mobile broadband devices (from the front of the Starter Kit)

        • @sween64: So these $30 Telstra prepaid starter kits can also be used as data passes inside a mobile phone? Then the credit can be used for Google Play Store? I hope my understanding is correct, please confirm

        • +2

@lovepeoplenotmoney: Yes. A difference is that CM2U is not available out of Data Pass.

        • +3

@sween64: don't know about new activation but my data pass still works with cm2u but you have to use the sms option

        • +1

          @lgacb08: Ah yes. 1258888. An un-documented feature.

        • @sween64: so when you activate the prepaid sim pack, all i can see is the prepaid plus and other plans. How do I switch to DATA PASS for Google Play credit?

        • +1

@arctan: You choose to activate it for a tablet not mobile phone. Otherwise online chat to activate.

        • @jkcat: Ahh ok got it!

      • Any idea what happens when you port a mobile service to a broadband service? Does it work and can you port the number out eventually if you port into the data pass plan?

        • I assume yes but I'm not sure. Why bother? Most people don't care what their mobile broadband service number is as they don't give it out to anyone for calls or SMS…

        • @sween64:

On F+, I was using the sim for 1 or 2 calls a month only. Data and GP creds was where I was getting the value from. I can live without calls on data pass, so was just curious before trying it a potentially losing my number.

        • @Obs: Ask LiveChat or Whirlpool. PM me for links if you need.

  • So with the old Freedom plan do you still get the 3gb data split up into day and night?

    • +2

No. Night Data bonus has finished for Freedom Plus.

      • +1

So basically it's just 1.5gb data, $700 worth of call, $200 worth of international calls and $30 google play credit then. Can't see any point keeping it apart from the google play credit

      • -1

Not true. I just did a recharge and it still gives me 1.5G of night data and no more night data.

        • Oh so you're still getting night data from the old plan?

        • @nightelves: He updated his comment. No more night data.

  • Can you still use on Google play ? If so great deal

    • On all offers except Pre-Paid Plus.

      • So the Google Play credit is still possible for the Long Life option?

        • +2

yes,, on new activation, just did it on 6th sep 2016

        • Yes

        • @lovbargain: Then what was the commotion about with Freedom Plus? I can understand how people want to use for mobile calls and sms value but the Google Play Store opportunity still exists unless my understanding is wrong?

        • +1

@lovepeoplenotmoney: Freedom Plus offer is no longer available for new activations. The commotion is that from a Starter Kit you can no longer get 3GB data, $700 worth of local calls and $30 recharge credit to use on the Google Play store. You can no longer have it all.

        • @sween64: Just to sidetrack to explore that a little deeper and more accurately, my understanding was $30 Telstra recharge credit was to be used for either Telstra prepaid mobile offers or Google Play Store, not both simultaneously. Please correct if my understanding is wrong because someone on the forum explained and what I just wrote is how I understood.

        • +1

@lovepeoplenotmoney: Yes. Recharge $30 on Data Pass receive 3GB data and $30 recharge credit. Recharge credit can then be used for PAYG data at $2/MB, International Browse Plus Packs or purchases on Google Play via Telstra Carrier Billong.

        • @lovbargain:
          Thanks, good to know

  • 1/2 Price SIM Starter Kits: Offer is online only. This offer applies only to the $30 Telstra Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit for both mobiles and tablets. Offer limited to one per person. Valid from 7 September 2016 till 19 September 2016.

I also wouldn't use this on Rebatr after seeing what has happened to other apps like Cashify.

    • what happed to cashify?

    • +1

I also wouldn't use this on Rebatr after seeing what has happened to other apps like Cashify

      What happened?

    • +1

Cashify got shut down because some scammer paid with a stolen Google Play gift card (yeah, it only takes one mofo to make good things/deals not last). App users are not affected as the developer has an API to pay them instantly. However the owner is deeply screwed as Google refused to pay him the $7.5k app revenue.

I hope that the dev can recover and make it to AU eventually. It's much better than our local app because you can buy items in a $1 increment and they pay you instantly.

    • +2

I would recommend using Rebatr because:

      a. They've increased their cashback to 55% of total purchase. I received $ 16.50 on my Paypal from them last week for my $ 30 Google Play store purchase (paid $ 15 for half price starter kit). At the end of the day, I made a tidy $ 1.50 profit.

      b. Rebatr promises to pay out the purchases every Friday and they did. I made the purchase on Monday and got my money on Friday so they delivered. Anyone who could walk the talk will always be on my good book and get my repeat business.

That's just my $ 0.05 and I'm NOT affiliated with them in any way. Cheers!

      • +4

I'd say don't use apps like Rebatr otherwise Google Play credit might eventually be excluded from other offers as well.

    • I really wanted 2 sims so I made an order and then was able to make another order after successfully. Next day I got a express bag with it and then today I just received my second one. Really odd but awesome! I would think the second order would have just been refunded.

  • Is there a way to use this for just google play credit nowadays (i dont care for calls or data just want half price google play credit)?

    EDIT: answered above

  • I'm on the $40 freedom plus plan. I would like to recharge again for $40 and continue that plan. Is that possible with this kit (with adding $10 of my own somehow)?

    • +1

No how would it is only a starter kit with $30 credit. Besides you can't reload an existing plan with a starter kit you need a recharge voucher. In other words this kit is only for new customers wanting to join on a $30 plan.

    • +4

If you want cheaper recharge vouchers purchase at Woolworths Caltex fuel outlets while purchasing fuel. You'll get 4c/L discount for your in-store spend. Pay using discounted Everday Wish Gift Cards for an additional 5% off. You can use Entertainment Book or Cash Rewards.

  • Sorry for the n00b question but if i only want the $30 in google play credit do i need to activate the SIM differently? Is there a way to choose the "long life" option as stated in comments above?

    • +2

When activating choose the Long Life offer. It's quite obvious once you start the process.

  • +1

Bought this from the woolworths deal.
I choose Beyond Talk as my prepaid plan, then spend the $30 in pokecoin, with payment method Telstra billing, via my Android phone.
After spending the $30 credit, I still had the bonus 200 minutes talk time, 200mb data and 200 text messages.

  • Good if you need Telstra …

  • Can only get 1. Unless you have multiple I.D.'s

  • Would this work if already on Telstra?
My nan needs a micro sim because she's getting a new phone and she has one of the old huge ones.

    • +2

A Telstra store will be able to provide a SIM swap free of charge. A Starter Kit isn't an option. You need a blank SIM.

  • 28 days …

    • "month"

  • When's the expiry of these sims?
