Anyone know if these are LSD?

    • +2

      Woolswoolth brand not Silkroad!

      • ALDI are LSD & same capacity as Eneloop Pro

        • Bought a pack each of Aldi AA and AAA to try, none reached their rated capacity.

AA were between 2000 and 2100 mah, AAA were around 700mah.

Haven't had them long enough to see how long they hold their charge yet.

  • Any word on quality?

    • Couldn't find any objective info or stats on them, sorry.

That's why I suggest putting these in things like clocks and remote controls and saving your (known) higher quality rechargeables for other devices.

Only an LSD battery would be suitable for a clock or remote control. Unless you like changing batteries every 2 weeks.

Can I just ask what the huge craze on Eneloops is about? I've got some and don't know what's so good about them.

Gold standard for consumer grade rechargeable batteries I guess. And often sold at bargain prices (in happier times, pre-Dick Smith collapse).

      • Fair enough. If only I knew about OzBargain 2 years ago, my local Dick Smith used to have them on special quite often and they once had the 8 packs on clearance for $2.

Other cheaper batteries such as Turnigy outperform them though. And they're half the cost.

        • +4

But do they come in shiny colours?

        • +1

Pretty much this. Too much momentum from word of mouth. If turnigy gets brought up enough then it shall be the new standard here on ozb.

        • @krisspy:
Turnigy are also a tiny bit more difficult to buy, because you almost always have to pay for shipping from HobbyKing.

HobbyKing don't make the shipping calculation easy either, OzBargainers being OzBargainers we will try to "optimize" the quantities to get the maximum bargain.

    • As an example and somewhat subjective;

I use aaa's in my headphones. When the batteries are going flat the headphones beeps before shutitng down.

The eneloops give six beeps before shutting down. Thats about 30 seconds and enough time to pause the game.

Over the past five years I have used other brands of rechargeables and found that both Enigisers and Vital give a single deep and shut down imidiatly some times with a terribale screch like the headphone was half way through the beep and just died while still trying to hold on…

moral of the story (my story!) is that I find the enelopes that i have used, have a more reliable discharge rate.

    • The craze is about LSD rechargeables… Eneloop just being the original and most accessible option.
For me, the benefit is being able to have them charged in a box ready to go… Or in remotes where you don't need much power but you need it over a long period cause you don't really want to be changing batteries frequently.
Regular rechargeables lose significant amounts of charge within weeks of being fully charged. So ideally, you need to be organised and charge them just before you need them.
If anything, OP's idea of taking the Eneloops out of Remotes is a bad idea…
That job is perfect for LSD batteries!

      • Good call - We just need to ascertain whether the Woolworths ones here are LSD or not.

Low self discharge means in practice you can come back 3 months later and use a battery that hasn't been charged in that long. Great for things like camera flash, remote control toys that you don't use regularly etc. And they tend to work for years through hundreds or even thousands of recharge cycles even with fast charging. They're just consistent and reliable and have been for a long time. Even the Chinese ones, proven to hold less over time and take less charges than the Japanese ones, are still pretty darn good.

For clocks, remotes etc I'd suggest alkalines. Because your battery might last a couple of years anyway and it's cheaper.

Thanks Op, they are worth a try for $3.50.

  • Interesting, the Coles equivalent pack doesn't seem to go on special, just stays at $7.

Would I be able to charge these with a generic/eneloop charger or does it have to be the specific Woolworths branded one?

    • U can use an eneloop charger or any other NIMH charger

  • Went to Woolworths and bought similar Chevron ones same price.

    • Why did you choose Chevron over Woolies?

  • Coz only Chevron ones available.

  • For some stupid reason I can't click and collect the AA version, only the AAA offering. 4152. Anyone else?

  • +1

Got 2 Chevron AAA packs from WW today. One has 50% charge out-of-the-box, and the other has zero ==> no LSD.

    • Thanks. For me no LSD = no buy.
