HP Probook 450 G3 (15.6" 1366 x 768, i5-6200U, 4GB/500GB) Laptop $699 + Shipping @ Shopping Express

90

Been looking around for a decent laptop as the missus'one is very much on its last legs. Just need it for internet browsing and some Microsoft office stuff. But she wants a bigger screen than the popular Dell model already put on here.
This appears to be okay for that purpose, although I reckon the RRP of $1099 is probably a bit unlikely. $12.55 courier fee to Adelaide.

Anyway, what do you think? And if you have any better suggestions for similar then please let me know.

Cheers

  • SPend an extra $200 and get a refurbished Dell Latitude 14 from dell outlet. Better specs.

    • I had a look, seems like swings and roundabouts really - more RAM on the latitude, but runs windows 8 and no ac wireless. Though does have a 128 gb ssd which is quite nice.

      • +1

        which is quite nice.

Just to be clear: this means the difference between Windows taking 120 seconds to load vs. 25, waiting many seconds for common apps such as office or a web browser to load vs. waiting 5. Everything feeling like a constant series of waiting times vs. things happening almost instantly.

Arguably the CPU is overpowered and money would be better spent on something with a 128GB SSD.

        • SSd makes huge difference for sure, takes around 15 seconds to turn on my pc and about 4 seconds for photoshop CC 2015 to load

        • If it's taking 2 minutes to load with a normal hard drive I think you'd wanna have a good look at your startup.

    • just an extra 30%? lol

  • All that bloatware tho'

    • Generally easy enough to get rid of. Just takes a bit of time…

    • Format C:, Done.

These entry level business grade HPs are a significant step up from their consumer grade stuff, this is a pretty fair price IMHO.

  • +1

Nothing special …..same spec as my Acer I5 we paid $500 from dick Smith and msy have the e5-575 for $525 …..get the Acer and spend the change on an SSD and extra 4 gb ram and slab of the $40 Heineken from dam Murphy…..

    • +1

But acer is shit. This is a business laptop

      • +3

Business it might be, but still considered quite entry level.

It might look like a premium metallic build, but the chassis is actually plastic which has been camouflaged with a brushed aluminium texture. The keyboard isn't backlit either.

It also looks fairly aesthetically pleasing, build is quite robust, and easily repairable… but when you actually turn it on and look at the display, things go south really quick. The panel is 720p and is a TN panel with very narrow viewing angles.

For a true business notebook experience you'd have to pony up a few hundred more for the Elitebook series — but be sure to get one with IPS display. TN panels will make even a $1k expensive laptop look like a cheap one.

        • +2

I have this laptop and the screen is the main letdown. Everything else about it is excellent.

        • HP are scrooges. Their $2000 elitebooks have TN 1080p panels. The elitebooks with UWVA IPS 1440p panels cost $2500+ RRP.

Dell Latitudes with QHD panels sometimes pop up on the dell outlet for about $1300.
