LG OLED Full HD 55EG910T Curved 55 Inch TV $2293 @ Radio Rentals SA

50

Usually this place is overpriced for everything, 15% off TV's this week makes this deal an exception.

Picked it up today as I needed a TV for the lounge room. Got TGG to price match as it was closer to pickup from them plus they offer the 30 day price drop guarantee (just in case)

Absolutely stunning picture, don't be fooled by it only being a 1080p TV - puts nearly all of the other UHD 4k SUHD etc etc TV's to shame!

  • I am no TV expert but isn't $2293 for a 1080p TV a 'bit' too much?

The panel is OLED, hence the price. They are dropping down in price now but they were sitting at $5k for a while (not just this one, but in general)

You can't compare any 1080p OLED to 4k LCD / LED. The tech is far superior, LED is rubbish. 4k or not. The last run of plasmas is still favoured (comfortably) by videophiles as opposed to any 4k LED.

4k on panel TV is marketing spin.

There was a previous deal for the 4K OLED version of this for just a couple of hundred more. How would this fare in your comparisons?

        • +1

Everything else equal, a 55 inch panel at conventional viewing distances (3-4m) - 4k over 1080p will not be distinguishable. If you had both panels lined up against each other, both playing 4k bluray, you wouldn't see a difference.

90% of people who have 4k panels don't watch 4k content anyway. But a couple of hundred seems like a good deal, especially if it has other advantages other than 4k.

The 4k 950 was only $200 more in my deal.

  • Having just bought 65OLEDC6T , I strongly recommend going for 4K Version whatever size u opt for,It looks stunning in 4K.

1080p looks just as stunning. Even on 100inch+ projector deisplays, videophiles have proven to have trouble seeing the difference between 1080p and 4k (res only), that's when looking for it. The film watching experience itself is hardly impacted.

Sorry mate, but that's just not true. I agree, the 4K version does look stunning and is pretty much the best TV on the market (I don't care what those videophiles say about colour reproductions etc, it looks damn good), but the 1080p version is lacking compared to a good 4K TV. Once you get used to 4K, you can see the pixels on a 1080p set. This was really evident the first time I saw the 1080p LG OLED. A good 4K TV will almost match it on blacks (not quite), but the resolution is so much better, it is night and day.

          Sorry, but that's rubbish.

On a projector, sure. On panel TV, at 3m+ distance, nope. There's a lot more important factors than resolution when we're talking >1080p.

4k is not good if it's LCD/LED. They do not look better than a 1080p plasma or OLED. It's all documented online by people who know what they're looking at. You're just fooled by the marketing champ.

        • @Ripped: No, you are speaking absolute crap. I don't care about the marketing, I have eyes. Anyone who owns a 4K TV will tell you that they can pick an HD immediately. It's like pulling out your old iphone 3GS and looking at the screen. When you first got the 3GS, the screen looked amazing. Having lived with a retina display, you can't believe how bad the 3GS is.

I was looking forward to the OLED LG when I heard it was coming out, but when I saw it in store, and could visibly see the pixels, (and this was on a 50inch), I was incredibly disappointed. The 4K version addressed this, and If I was going to spend that much money, I would seriously look at the 4K version, but the 1080p LG just looks terrible when compared to a good 4K TV.

A 1080p plasma is old technology, while something like a Kuro was great in its day, and for years after, it doesn't compare to a new high end 4K LED. (My old man replaced his Kuro with a 70 inch Sony 4K, he still has the Pioneer at the beach house, and a 60 inch Panasonic Plasma). The Sony is miles better than any of them. I have 65 inch Samsung 4K, and it is rubbish compared to the Sony TV. But at the end of the day, OLED has amazing blacks, pretty good colour, and the 4k version is amazing, but a high end LCD is 90% as good in terms of blacks and colours, but for me, size is king. If I was spending that kind of money, I'd get a 75-85inch high end LED instead.

          @thorton82:

Not going to waste any more of my time, other than to say you clearly have no idea. Do some research. You can't see straight with that opinion. LED / LCD is junk tech. Rubbish.

        • @Ripped: Everyone is allowed their own opinion, but yours is particularly shit. Like your new TV.

Why didnt you just buy at TGG at normal price (no price match) then claim 120% of the difference via their price guarantee?

    • Yeah what you're saying is under their 30 day price guarantee. But it says they only give cash back in the form of an EFTPOS card or store credit , no actual cash.

      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee

But i'm thinking only TGG stores in SA will do this since the deal from Radio Rentals is a SA only deal.

  • EFTPOS card = cash?

    • Not in the sense of cold hard cash such as notes and coins if you prefer that sort of money. EFTPOS card = pay via merchant payment terminal.
