Will Woolworths go out of business? Similar to DSE could be the start of it?

    Theories?

    • +3

I sure hope not, where will I get discounted Opal top-ups, fuel vouchers and fuel, paid by egift vouchers if they do?
They really screwed up with their woolworths rewards program, without data they can't see the spending behaviour of their consumers and can't plan.

    • They've been offering greater discounts than this for years.

  • +7

Good to see a match but why didn't CR go straight to 5.5% in the first place if it is a sustainable offer?

    • +5

because they make more profit at 5.3% ?

  • Wtf just got this yesterday at 5.3%

    • Me too lol.

    • +1

But you must have got Groupon $10 off too, in addition. No?

  • It's working now, just purchased one. I was trying to purchase one last night and it wasn't showing the discount. They must have been changing it as I was trying.

  • Can you use paypal with CR?

    • Yes

    • -1

      No

    • you don't pay on the CR site but are redirected to the Woolworths everydaygiftcards.com.au site for payment and they do not accept PayPal

    • No. Purchase through Groupon if you intend to pay through PayPal.

  • +3

Can you use these gift cards to buy Woolworths Mobile credit in-store, alongside the 10% everyday rewards discount? (so for a $30 recharge, you'd get 15.5% off, making it only $25.35)

    • Yep.

    • +4

This is incredibly pedantic given it's only a few cents difference, but you can't add percentages together like that. A 10% discount on $30 makes it $27, then a 5.5% discount on $27 makes it $25.50.

As I said, pedantic, but I've seen people do it on much larger discounts so thought I'd point it out!

    • What's 10% everyday reward discount? Thanks.

      • 10% off W mobile credit for EDR members

        • Only for Woolworths mobile.. right?

  • +1

I knew TA would come good. Buying one of this today.

  • Can you recharge opal from Gift card ?

    • +1

      Yes.
You need to go to a woolworths with an opal terminal though, it will be located at the customer service desk at the front (where you get refunds and cigarettes) if they have one. Ask to pay by egift, no issues at all

Gah bought $500 a couple of daya ago. Feeling ripped

  • Can you buy steam gift cards with this? And if so, what's the exchange rate like usually compared to the midmarket rates?

    • You can buy any gift card that woolworths sells with this.
Not sure if they sell Steam gift cards though.

      • Fairly certain most do

  • +9

I get angry at people that I tell who disregard the 5% off at Woolies via cashrewards.
    Excuses range from:
"Oh I won't use it all"
    "Oh I will lose it"
"Oh I don't want to wait for it in the email"
    "Oh it's probably not safe"
"I don't want to give my money to a company before I spend it"

$11 back in my pocket on $200 spend is a nice reward for doin' not a lot!

    • +2

Agree with your "for doin' not a lot!" We spend enough at Woolies and Dan Murphys each year for the savings to really add up.

    • +3

this is why I don't even bother telling friends multiple times even though I want to share the love cause it irritates me when they don't do it!

    • Yep - have heard similar - especially the last one about not wanting to give money before they spend it. Errr, this isn't a gift card for some dinky corner store where closing overnight is a distinct possibility.

I use e-gift versions exclusively - the code you type at POS in-store is only 10 digits plus 4 digit PIN and Woolworths Money even provide an app to keep the details on it (including real-time balance and transaction lists). Most people spend more time fumbling with their wallet/purse or credit cards than I do entering the e-gift card number.

Between Woolies and Dan Murphy/BWS spend I have saved over $750 alone on e-gift cards in approximately two years - and of course if I click and collect with dans the savings compound again from the cashback [edit: through the cashrewards site]. I'm spending less lately but I'm still saving a cool $25 to $30 a month for near zero effort.

The most frustrating thing was probably when I first started using them that I had to tell the check out operators about 50% of the time what button to press and BWS store staff in particular seemed to have never heard of them.

You just can't help some people.

Its really not that much of a saving, considering you pay the money right away. And also you have to fiddle with your phone and look for the voucher, type the pin in each time. When the voucher doesn't enough money, it'll error and you have to wait for someone to come to self serve to fix for you. I bought one last time when it was 15% off and just cbbed using it. I'd rather use an american express credit card and get points back, keep the money in my online savers account and just paypass the card. Less hassle.

      • You won't save as much that way.

      • I pay for the gift card with american express :D

  • is $5 referral bonus from cashrewards better?
    or $10 from groupon?

WOW you are negging a deal for giving bigger discount, you sure are not aware of how Ozbargainers works. Have a neg

    • +3

In Australia, Woolworths is a large retailer. These cards can be used to buy fuel, supermarket shopping and merchandise at Big W (not sure what the equivalent is in New Zealand, but Big W sells clothing, games, appliances etc.) So although the discount is small, just by doing weekly shopping and fuel purchases etc. you can actually spend quite a lot of money. So yes small discount, but it does add up, we would spend $200 a week on stuff at Woolworths. So any extra discount helps.

    • +3

I suppose wouldn't mind if your bank started charging you an additional 0.2% fee on withdrawals then?

  • Thanks OP so many Woolworths Wish card deals in the last week.

  • Can we use these on giftcard, like Eb games or Myer?

    • +3

if woolworths or big w sell the gift card in store then you can use the egift card to purchase.
Woolworths sell both of these gift cards so yes.

      • good. bought one grand and waiting for 10% off on MYER GC. hope it won't be long.

  • +1

    Max purchase is $500

With 5.5% off $27.5 is the max saving.

Should I pay $500 in advance, risk losing the eGift card voucher emails, got locked down to Caltex Pertol for the next 3 months… etc.

    or

Should I save $27.5 by "not buying that crap" on fee bay.

    Tough question indeed.

    • +1

you can order multiples of $500 to increase the max savings.
Add the eGift card details into the Woolworths Money app and avoid loosing the eGift card voucher emails

      • +1

I got it and thanks for the info on the apps. Not neging OP as I found it a good deal.

It is a great deal for big family who can spend that $500 in 1 or 2 weeks.

I studied Economics and always fascinated by people's view of value of (holding) money.
And also it seems people sort of ignore the opportunity cost when decided to pay upfront.

I probably will do it if it was a 10% off. I guess I am just more greedier than I thought.

        • +3

Pay up front with a credit card, then pay off the credit card at the end of the month.

    • I'd do both.

  • +3

This is a great deal! 5.5% is a lot considering the banks only pay you about 2+% for keeping your money for 365 days. I bet you could spend $100 in Woolies/Dan Murphy in the next 90 days.

Thanks heaps TA and unintended88 for posting!

@TA - What's the story with getting Coles on board? I think Andrew mentioned he was optimistic about it a year or so back and it all went quiet again?

    • Yeah…why don't Coles get on board with cashrewards and also offer discounted egift cards?? They miss out on a lot of my business because of this :/

  • Also a great way to meet minimum spends for bonus FF miles on new credit cards.

  • First time CR and wish eGift card buyer here. Anyone care to teach me what to do?

    So I :

    1) Registered at CR with the random referral code
    2) Look for Wish eGift card and purchased $200
    3) …
    4) Profit?

I'm still at step 2, haven't checked out fully yet. Am I doing this right or am I missing a step or two to get more juice out of my cash?

    • Dan Murphy's on CR has additional cashback to stack by paying with egift cards

    • +1

I'm already a member of CR but the process is:

Sign into cashrewards, search for woolworths 5 or 5.5% offer and click go to site
Takes you to woolworths site where you select e-gift or physical card, amount and no. of cards
      Checkout
If you purchased e-gift you'll get an immediate email acknowledging the purchase, a tax invoice a bit later and then usually within a few hours an email with a PDF

The PDF will have your card amount, the in-store no. (it's short), the online no. (say for purchasing woolworths or dan murphy online) and the PIN

The saving is immediate with these cards - ie with 5.5% discount you will be able to buy a $200 e-gift card for $189 billed to your credit card etc

      Hope that helps?

      • Thanks troy. Was just wondering because I saw some people get 10% off then another 5.5% off, or I might just have misunderstood.

        Thanks

  • Stupid question but this can be used multiple times on the same gift card? I won't be filling up a $100 worth of fuel so the left over just stays on it yeah?

    • +2

      Yes.

  • +1

Yes, but you need to track how much is left. That is why the woolworths money app is handy. If you don't have the app and just have the number from the email, you can try to make the payment and the checkout person will tell you how much you have left or you can also check your balance online.

  • +4

What I like about buying these vouchers is that you can actually just buy the exact amount you need. I was buying from Dan's the other day so totalled up how much I needed and was able to buy a card for that value. Few hours later I had the emailed card so placed my order online for click and collect. Didn't have to worry about having a little bit extra left on the card.

Today I needed to shop at Woolworth's, estimated my shopping at $40 so bought a $40 card. My shopping came to $40.20 so only had to pay the extra 20C. Doing it this way I save $2.20 straight away on my shopping.

  • I ordered mine yesterday, still hasn't arrived. Anyone else having any problems or who to call if it is late? Was hoping to use on my shop today.

    • Mine czme through about 45mins later.

    • Same situation here. Have only received the confirmation email. Ordered at 1pm yesterday.
When I order through entertainment book they always come within a few hours.

      • Received mine 23.5 hours after order. Just in time.

        • Mine came through as well, about just under 23 hours. Haven't received the receipt email yet but don't really care about that one.

    • Last time i ordered it took 48 hrs , bought another $500 about 24 hrs ago nothing yet & only confirmation email no tax invoice yet.
