  • This is 799… I think you should add to title??

I personally think the Dell advertised the other day was a much better deal as it had an i5 proccessor, better graphics card.

    • +1

Graphics card wasn't included in the price, you would have to upgrade. This has a 6-cell battery and windows 7, and hdmi.

But this also has ddr2 ram, 5400 rpm hard drive.

I'd still go with the dell and upgrade the graphics card.

      • +1

Yes, i included the graphics card update (extra 62$) then applied the 8% voucher (someone posted comment with link), and it worked out to be 892$ for the laptop with the graphics card included.

I'm however looking for a 15.6 inch laptop so I didnt buy it. But that is an amazing deal for a laptop that small!

And yea jsut rememeberd it was on vista. Vista is crap, this is a good deal in that case :D

      • Dell Vostro 3300 is also a tad lighter at less than 2kg, verses 2.15kg here.

    • could someone post a link to this please? i have done a search, but could not find it…

      cheers

  • Not really a bargain when compared to other eofy sales. Not a bad deal either.

Well, IMO, it's better deal than the similar HP DM3 last week from COTD

  • JB HIFI are currently doing the same machine for $1618.20.

    • HOT PRICE $1,618.20
      UNTIL 19 April 2010
Sorry, this product is not currently available for purchase.

      • Ah, I didn't see that bit. So what I should have said is JB HIFI were doing the machine for $1618 2 months ago!

MLN had a better deal for $599 - its a shame they had less than 1000 stock!

    • This one has better specs (faster processor, dedicated graphics, bigger hard drive, gigabit lan) which might make it worth the extra cash

HP's build quality and reliability is questionable though so I'm still happy with the Dell I bought last week :)

      • MLN was Vista.

        • If you don't value the price over everything else, this is a better laptop than MLN with the extra above, worth the almost $200 differences

    • MLN's was over three months ago. good deal at the time.

  • I got one of those MLN ones…Great bargain for a laptop this size. The only diff was that the CPU was a P7XXX not this P8600 beast here!

  • what was the DELL deal you are talking about? Link? Cheers

i think the asus at 699 sold by cotd weeks back was a better deal. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/25992

    • I agree. Even though this model has slightly better specs, the battery life is pretty bad. (3hrs very light use apposed to 10hrs with the DM3-1011TU).

    Compare to the Dell:
    - This one has HDMI. Dell one has fingerprint reader (not sure about fingerprint reader).
    - 500G 5400rpm (HP) vs 320 7200rpm (Dell) - probably roughly the same
    - Dell one has a faster CPU
    - Dell has optional upgrade to a better graphics card
    - Windows 7 Home Premium (HP) vs Vista Home Basic SP2 (Dell)
    - Dell - $20 more expensive (after factoring postage)
    - Glossy screen (HP) vs Anti-Glare (Dell) - Both have LED backlight BTW

So which one is better? It is basically down to HDMI vs better CPU, Glossy vs Anti-Glare/Matt, and Windows 7 vs Vista. It depends on what you want really… If HDMI is not important to you, then the Dell laptop is probably a better choice (but I cannot understand why Dell still sells Vista).

    Compare to MLN DV3:
    - MLN deal was $200 cheaper
    - The DV3 sold by MLN had a smaller hard drive (320GB/5400rpm), no bluetooth, 10/100 network card (not gigabit ethernet), and most importantly, a inferior CPU (only 2Ghz, and no VT-x support). MLN one came with Vista 32-bit.

Bottom line: This HP laptop is quite complete and reasonably priced… It is not crippled in any way (HDMI is there, Windows 7 Home Premium is acceptable). No doubt the Dell one has more raw power, pity it does not have an HDMI..

      The problem is: Dell sucks.

      • +2

In my books Dell ranks better than HP. If you google "notebook reliability study" the results show that HP ranks as the worst in terms of notebook longevity.

  • Does anyone know the weight difference between the Dell and the HP one? Can't seem to find it. Cheers

    • HP DV3 - 1.97 Kg
      Dell - 2.16 Kg

Roughly the same. Both are designed for "home use / small business"… so not exactly slim and light. Battery life is very average for both (approx. 2 hours).

  • The Asus deal 2 weeks ago is a better deal. better graphics card, Win7 Pro and 2 yr int warranty. most only have Win7 Home.
This is an ok deal. Im sure there will be better deals which will come along.

Good deals come and go so don't be afraid if you miss one.

  • HDMI and eSata are big bonuses. Would like i3 or i5 processor though.

  • has anyone heard COTD have not so good customer service?

  • Good deal. Especially with dedicated graphic card and hdmi.

Simply buy it and keep it next to the TV, use it as a cheap HTPC.
