  • $1156.00 is cheapest on Staticice.

    So it's a bit of a bargain!! ;)

  • Yeah this seems like a really good deal from my reckoning i agree!

  • +4

It sure is a good price however they have one of the highest faulty rates for laptops.

I work at an IT distributor that sells HP. have had 10000s of fedback for the DV series going wrong.

    • +1

is that the ones with nvidia graphics or all hp dv's?

the nvidia graphics chip problem is across all laptops and I think HP used nvidia chips alot

      • all HP DVs, if you compare them to the HP Business Series Laptops (they have a much lower faulty rate).

      • +1

Yeah I've read about so many problems regarding the dv series. I was going to get one a while ago before reading up on it.

        • Sorry, I meant to vote + on manbearpig's comment.
My dad's HP dv died first month out of the 1yr warranty due to graphic or motherboard overheating. HP knows about the nvidia problem but won't recall all models affected, only some. I've read about many problems with their notebooks. I will never buy HP.

    • There was a graph on engadget, between 15-25% of laptops went for repairs inside the warranty period. HP was actually quite bad (I would have thought they'd be rather good). Not sure why it's so high, I have nearly 10 PC's and the only one that has died on me was the brand name one (stupid Dell), the rest are custom and they run fine; maybe laptops have a higher failure rate than desktops or something.

      • laptops would most certainly have higher failure rates due to the nature of their use / abuse. The air vent holes getting blocked/clogged is the easiest thing.

      • They prolly do. Many of them run quite hot don't they? And often people end up buying cooling pads etc. So maybe just because the components are so compressed they have failures due to overheat and associated problems?

        • Yes, Thats right most laptops tend to overheat, but also many brands stress test their designs before production to ensure that your laptop lasts.

But with the HP DV Series….. I don't think they really care.

      • This is the engadget graph:

        http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/laptop-reliability-survey…

It mentions HP as a whole but didn't target specific models.

Good price though. A shame this is the version with the Intel graphics!

      • Every laptop I have owned has required several repairs within the warranty period. 2x Toshiba, one Acer, one Asus. 4 dead DVD drives, one motherboard, one screen, etc etc. Most laptops are made by a handful of companies like Quanta and Compal, regardless of the actual brand.

I would always get an extended warranty on any laptop, regardless of brand name. And yes, I do take good care of my machines but I run them 24/7.

        • HP really screwed the pooch with their consumer lines, DV series in particular the last few years. As others have said, their business class laptops are second to none, by a good margin too, but unfortunately there is no differentiation any more. An HP laptop is an HP laptop, so they all get lumped in together good, bad, and ugly.

They used to use the Compaq brand for their business lines, but not any more. I'm sure the idiot who decided to ditch the Compaq name has been fired, or most probably promoted and given a huge bonus - judging by the way big businesses are run these days.

At least there are some good bargains to be had for truly excellent HP business class laptops such as the EliteBook series, since all HP laptops get such a bad rep due to the consumer models DV etc.

          • @stumo: Here's a bit of a overview for the branding differences:
HP Business Class: HP ProBook and HP EliteBook
HP Consumer Lines: Presario, HP Pavilion and Envy

    • I had a display fail in an older DV9000 series laptop for what it's worth. Had to be sent back and have the screen replaced. It also had overheating issues which somewhat rectified themselves after a BIOS update.

  • My HP Pavilion dv6000 is dead, graphics card over heated.

    • had the same prob. bcms untouchable sometimes..
      too much gaming i guess…!! :-)) still going …not dead though…

    • Uni students
      Email, poker, youtube users?

  • Video: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (shared)

nvidia shouldn't be an issue here at all

    • +1

Do you realise that not everyone uses computers for games?

    • I was going to write that its a bloody good bargain though, but alas I forgot :( and I dont need a laptop.

  • +1

some people have to use laptops for work… strange concept i know for the avg. person who comes here…

  • if you gave me a choice of Nvidia or Intel in a laptop, i take Intel

Nvidia is the kiss of death

  • Well the main thing for me would be if it can play 1080p mkv files. This would have no probs I'm sure.

    • Not on the internal screen - it's 1366x768. But it does have HDMI out and I'm sure it could handle 1080P there, the CPU should be grunty enough.

      • i dont get it…. 1080p is twice the resoultion of 1366*768 then y would playing it on the laptop's screen be a problem when playing it at 1080p isnt?

        • 1080P represents the vertical resolution. The vertical resolution of this screen is less than 1080 lines (it's 768) therefore the picture will render, but you won't be watching in 1080P. Unless you plug into an external monitor/TV which DOES have at least 1080 vertical lines.

          • -1

@cmdwedge: ah right that makes sense now. i thought u ment it didnt have enough grunt to output at 1366*768 lol.

  • i kinda wonder what happened that they couldn't sell these things 2 months ago when you could get a free W7 update…

    vista is… ewww

  • definitely one of the cheapest around

  • Thinking to get one but I don't know if this is a good buy or not,

Yes, its almost 50% cheaper but in term of life span of the laptop is it worth it?

    • You pay for what you get , if it was me i would choose almost anything else

  • I took the plunge and bought it. It seems really good, and a great price.

  • -2

Perhaps I'm too optimistic and think that every once in a while, a good unit sneaks through the factory.

My case in point. I have an ACER Extensa 2300 I bought in 03/04. Not the "greatest" brand, in fact it's only a 1.5GHz Celeron, 256MB DDR (now upgraded to 512MB) and a 40GB 4200 RPM HDD (no wireless, no bluetooth). The battery perished within 2 years as it wasn't good to begin with but I've had this thing running for the last 4 years 24/7 365 and it hasn't let me down.

    I'm really tempted actually.

Oh and I heard the Windows 7 Upgrade may have been extended to the 8th of March.

SORRY FOR TRYING TO HELP (I THOUGHT THE INFORMATION WAS VALID see below).

NOTE I DID INCLUDE THE WORD MAY.

NB: I find it strange I was able to claim the Upgrade with my Windows Vista Home Premium OEM just yesterday (I purchased the item mid Feb). I was never asked for the invoice, just entered the characters on the bonus slip.

        • +1

some vendors may or may not ask for an invoice. This does not apply to this offer.

          • @MLN: My apologies. You have to understand I didn't mean to mislead anyone, just help with what I thought was an extention on the offer (I purchased Vista HP OEM in Feb and I was able to do it). Keeping in mind I did say "may".

In any case thanks for the correction. Despite the caps in the reply I've always found your deals for the most part fairly strong (and I'm not even in the same state), but I always appreciate a good deal.

            • +3

@Kranbone: thats ok, I just had to clarify this quickly in case some customers where mislead.
              Thank you for your support.

  • +1

Voting positive, apart from good deal, nice heading with price and being honest to reply within 20min clarifying win7 upgrade.

    • +1

unfortunately I may not be able to post quick enough in future, please always remember MLN can only be responsible for what we post or advertise and we are not responsible for other peoples postings or listings.

  • Thanks for the post, the specs look great. Let's see if holds up against the test of time :)

  • Nice Deal. Thanks!
    Just brought one.

  • Great deal. Thank you for sharing.

  • Hey guys so do you think its worth it for basic university tasks such as taking lecture notes and MSN etc? I mean this laptop will not experience any gaming whatsoever, so will it face any problems (since its the videocard thats the problem?)

    • +1

I reckon it'll be great for uni and such since its 13" as well :D

If I had any uni friends wanting to buy, I'd suggest this one.

      My opinion :)

    • I'm considering this for uni too. And it does seem very ideal. I don't like netbooks (screen and keyboard too small - annoying), and this isn't 15" but it's 13.3" which is pretty much the size that I like for laptops. I like 13.3-14.1, so this is a good size, and seems to be a great price too.

    • -1

i don't think it is good for uni:
      1. it is not culv, i don't think it can last for more than 3 hours. i assume each school day has at least 3 lectures, then it may not be enough.
      2. it is bit heavy, 13.3" weight more than 2 kg is quite unacceptable. also i don't think you really need the dvd rom.
But it is cheap. So if your don't need to use more than 3 hours each school day or/and doesn't mind the carry 2kg+ notebook + AC adaptor to go to uni, it is a good deal.

      • yeah its heavier than most would like it, but my textbooks weigh more than this. Buy this….get the ebook of the textbooks, and your smiling. And for uni where i only have 3-4 classes a day….it would be fine in terms of power (maybe not for school). Big enough to type on, and powerful enough to run a few programs. good price if it lasts a few years.

        • +1

may be i am bit old, but i never find ebook is a effective media to read/study.
also if you use ebook, the situation is even worse(not smiling). You can't read your ebook on the way to uni(assuming uni study take public transport) becasue you are very likely have not enough battery to finish your last lecture (forget about uisng this notebook/or read your ebook on your way back from uni).
          just my 2 cents

          • @casmxl: im not one to read ebooks on the train. just at home and uni when i study with my lecture notes out. u need to get used to it for sure. in 10-20 years time, books will not longer be published on paper any more, except maybe a few. lol

I bought mine @ heidelberg store , 5 minutes before the closing time. The guy said there were 30 in the morning and I bought the second last one.

Planning to combo with the $50 windows 7 upgrade. :)

    • im typing this from my new hp pavilion dv3 laptop that i just went and purchased today. first thing i did was to go on ozbargain (after i uninstalled norton antivirus, of course). Big ups to the West Melbourne store that let me in 10 minutes after the closing time. 5 second decision to buy the laptop, looks great and isnt as heavy as i thought. $599, bloody excellent!! (most impressed with 4gb ram)

  • Fair price but the CPU is based on the older 65nm = reduced battery life than newer CPUs. HP also has a shorter warranty than most other vendors.

    • This would be incorrect, according to my information it is a 45nm processor and is actually one of the better C2D processors, it is also an intel centrino 2 processor in this laptop.
      Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 Penryn 1066 3MB 2000 25 45nm 2core true 64 bit
      http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-2-Duo-Notebook-Proce…

In relation to HP's one year standard warranty, that is the exact same one year warranty, that Toshiba, Lenovo, Dell, Acer well pretty much every major vendor other than Asus provides, so its not compromised or shorter than most other major vendors.

  • Went to buy one of these at lunch time but bought a Toshiba instead with similar specs for $100 more with Windows 7 already installed. Also (stupidly) bought the extra 2 year warranty but changed my mind on the warranty after speaking to my partner and 4 hours later went back to the shop and these guys wouldnt give me my money back for the extended warranty despite being able to prove I hadnt used it. As a 'kind deed' gave me a credit note instead as he told me I should have asked about the conditions of purchase before I purchased. As these guys mainly only sell laptops I dont really have much use for a $189 credit note. So beware, think and ask these guys about their return policy on every product you buy - especially if you are at all doubtful about needing to return your purchase. So far the computer is good, but wont be rushing back for their 'service'.

    • That is really bad form from them. Maybe see if any friends want to purchase one of these using your credit.

    • so, you have extra 2 year warranty and 189 credit note, that's really good deal. i am sure you can find some to buy from them.

    • i wouldnt call stupid for buying the extra warranty, as notebooks could well get in to trouble after a year :-). But toshiba's direct warranty is cheaper then 189$ and very good service. (165$ for 2 years, 199$ for 3years, even MLN is their direct seller)

    • Please note, we have no way of knowing if your extended warranty has been registered or not, there is actaully no way to prove this, you can register the extended warranty kit via mail, email or the telephone and we have no way of knowing other than actually putting a request in with the warranty company which takes 3-4 days for a response. Therfore we cannot issue a refund for change of mind.
Regardless of this under no circumstance whatsoever will MLN issue a refund for reasons of a customer changing their mind about their purchase so please choose carefully all products before making a purchase.
I am not stating that you (gaylem50) did or did not register the warranty, I am just pointing out why it would not be refunded or credited under normal circumstances.
According to consumer law no retailer in Australia is required to issue you a refund if you change your mind after making a purchase for any product, let alone things that are consumable and non refundable such as software, printer cartridges, batteries and warranty kits, these products once used even once, carry no further value and therfore would not be refundable under any cirmcumstance because of the nature of the actual product regardless of company policy. (A warranty kit is only valid if registered to the serial number of that specific computer and cannot be changed or moved acorss once registered)

I beleive in this case according to the information you have provided here a credit note was provided to you even though MLN are under no obligation to do so by law or according to its own policy and under normal circumstances MLN would not issue you a refund or credit note if you wanted to take your warranty kit back, and I am actually surprised that a credit note was issued for this instance.

Our returns policy is in line with Australian consumer law, and MLN will not issue a refund or credit note for change of mind under any circumstance.
More information on refunds for change of mind can be found here
      http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/CA256902000FE154/Lookup/CAV_Publications_Business_Information/$file/A4%20Refund%20Law%20Brochure.pdf

MLN will only issue a refund for the following 3 reasons as also in accordance with Australian consumer law and will not issue a refund or a credit note for change of mind.
      1) if the product is different to what is advertised, described or does not do what it was told to you it would do.
      2) if the product is faulty and it cannot be replaced with a new one or repaired under warranty (for reasons such as no spare parts being available)
3)If the product is not available.

This is to clarify to any further customers who may think otherwise.
It is part of MLN's core mission statement to only provide products to customers that acutally need that specific product and MLN does not want its customers to purchase products they may be unsure about.
Our purchase policy is also available in store, and if you are unsure about anything, please ask a sales rep, either in store or via email all your concerns and requirements before making your purchase to ensure no confusion is created and that you are provided with the correct product to suite your actual requirements.

Regardless of what happens, MLN staff are always willing to help, as with this case, a credit note was still issued, so its always a good idea to talk to your sales rep if you are not happy with something regardless of what the law or our policy says. We are here to assist you wherever reasonably possible.

Please ensure you direct all sales enquiries to your point of purchase for all future purchases.

    • Please see an explanation above.

    • Mind you, the toshiba is nearly a whole kilo heavier and is much larger (15.6"). Portability issues.

  • I mentioned the deal to my dad yesterday who went down there this morning and purchased 2!

  • to MLN: Do you have an operator to answer the customer service hotline 1300 788 875? If so, please advise the operating hours. I didn't have any luck to talk to any of them as all calls went to ring no answer.

P.S. Please don't tell me to drop an email instead.

    • I have also been trying to call them since morning but no one seems to answer.
I ordered my laptop on 3rd march and haven't received any update on my order status and from the website it says "new order" in my order status.

      • Likewise - I ordered via the website on the 3rd March and paid via direct bank transfer when I got the order e-mail with details on how to pay. I have heard nothing back from them since. Nothing to indicate that they have received payment, nothing to indicate they have allocated stock - nothing at all. I'm starting to get very concerned now. The disturbing thing is that when I check my account on their website and go to 'order history', there is nothing listed there at all - even though I have an order number in the e-mail I got after ordering.

        • Ahh - I think it's actually a public holiday in Victoria today.

        • Yes, I ordered and paid off on 3rd March as well. Nothing happened since then. Looks like it's completely dead!

In the initial payment instruction email, it says:

          QUOTE

Your BPay CRN should now be active. If you make a BPay payment before close of banking business hours, your payment should be processed the following day. If you pay after close of banking business hours, your payment will take two days to process.

          UNQUOTE

I have purchased couple of things on different online stores in Australia. This kinda slow processing never happened to me. Even the free iphone Screen Protector has been shipped out 2 days right after placing the order.

Can MLN explain what is wrong with your operation? And can I ask for a refund if the order hasn't been fulfilled in a certain time frame, say a week??????

          • @liveinsydney: Hi Guys
we are here, all web orders need to be directed through the website (sorry I had to say drop an email)
The phone lines are for the retail stores, and if you cant get through its, because the floor staff are all busy dealing with customers.
If you order online, you need to communicate via email.
If you would like to buy in store, its best to visit the store as with any other retailer.

Please read the payment instructions in the emails sent to you about delivery times,
and as I have listed in the originial listing at the top of this page
please allow 5-14 days for delivery.
I guess if you order something for free no processing time is needed.
As advertised and quoted it will take between 5-14 days to receive your order.

Guys dont panic, just have a quick read, all the information you require is pretty much here or all in your emails.

As also instructed here, please direct all enquiries to your point of purchase for you to get an answer or information on your order.

            • @MLN: Well…….i haven't gotten a reply for the email i mailed almost 2 days ago.
i ordered on 3rd March and website is just showing payment cleared as of now (11th march 9PM).

              • @apna235: Hi,
if you are not receiving a reply to your emails it means they are not going through,
If you are not receiving a receipt when you send an email it means our server is not receiving any emails from you.
please allow 5-14 days to receive your parcel as advertised, please do not expect it to come any faster than this, as it will not.
As I have posted many times here you need to contact your point of sales to find out more about your order.
If your emails are not going through it could be to many reasons such as your computer being infected with spyware or viruses and our server is rejecting your requests.

                • @MLN: Actually I did receive an automated email stating that i will get a reply within 24 hours and I am 99% sure my computer is not infected with any spyware or viruses.

                  • @apna235: Please contact your point of purchase as I have stated numerous times here, there is no reason for anybody to ignore your emails, I cannot help you on this forum and there are dedicated sales staff who are employed to assist you with your requests and are part of the online sales team. If you are still having difficulty then send me a message and I will forward it on to them.
I do not understand why it is you are not receiving any responses from us and I would also like to find out myself, and if you are still not receiving a response would you please send me a direct message.

                    • @MLN: I got my laptop yesterday morning before getting my tracking no. in the evening.
So I don't need to contact now. But it would have been great if i had gotten the tracking number after laptop was shipped. In the end iam happy i got it before the weekend.

                      • @apna235: I think the problem here is you have not received any emails from us at all.
If you have not received aything from us, there is definately a problem with your email address.
Regardless of if you do or dont receive any emails, it has no impact on the delivery time frame of your parcel.
The tracking number facility is automated and since we seemed to have not received any emails from you either, there must be something wrong with your email account or settings.

  • I manage to install XP on the machine. Because HP don't provide XP drivers for their consumer line of PCs anymore, the process was a royal pain!

    PROS:
No more constant Vista spinning circle doing absolutely nothing!
Cheaper than the $189 Windows 7 upgrade fee MLN is offering.
    It's also faster on XP.

    CONS:
XP cannot use all 4GB memory.
Install process is difficult and time consuming.

If anyone wants to know how to do the same, I'll detail the process on WP if there is enough interest.

    • I am curious about this but I don't see why it would be so hard to just install the drivers off the driver CD provided? Are they ONLY for Vista or something?

      • Laptop didn't come with ANY CDs. If anyone wants to attempt the install, you will need to slipstream the SATA drivers on the XPdisk otherwise the machine will blue screen when starting the install process.

        • Sorry - only opened the box about half an hour ago =)
Ok I will not bother with this. I was just curious and wasn't seriously considering. I'd much prefer upgrading to Windows 7 anyway and I think I will do that but thanks for your input and help!

  • i had an hp laptop and the nvidia graphics card failed after about 9 months, the laptop constantly overheated and in the end it would cost more to get it fixed than to buy a new dell which is far better built.

    • There was a problem with Nvidia graphics card sometime back but that affected all brands not just HP.

  • I've got a 2 year old HP Pavilion dv6614tx (Intel Core 2 Duo T7250, 2GB RAM, 5400 RPM HDD). Haven't had any problems yet… :/

It's got an nVidia GeForce 8400M GS graphics card so maybe I'm lucky :) It does run freaking hot sometimes though. E.g., watching a movie on your lap. And the fan does go berzerk, even if you're just YouTube'ing for a bit. I find this really annoying — if you can, try the laptop out at a store somewhere and work it hard :/

Other than that, nothing's failed so far. I've upgraded it to Windows 7 and it runs smoothly with the original 2GB of RAM. Girlfriend uses it for Facebook, Gmail, Office and crap daily. Anyway, for $600, I wouldn't expect too much from the DV3-2105TU but it seriously looks like a great price. Really tempted except the base looks too chunky for me :(

Huge +1 from me, picked one up from MLN West Melbourne on Friday afternoon, gutted out Vista straight away and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. The laptop is quick, the trackpad is great and the keys are fantastic. Couldn't be happier.

I bought one too and upgraded to Win 7 Pro (32-bit) almost immediately. Got rid of all the preinstalled HP crap (wireless assistant, HP advisor etc) but I found a couple of things didn't work on Win 7 without further installing drivers:-

      • quick launch buttons (specifically the mute / unmute button did not work; whereas the volume + & -, and wireless on / off were fine) and;
      • more notably, the laptop refuses to "sleep". when you enter sleep mode, it shuts off (screen, hdd) but almost "wakes up" immediately.

      I visited http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=4062&lc=e…
to install all the drivers (aside from the HP crap) but the HP still refused to sleep.

Well don't know about you folks but it doesn't really bother me. Win 7 boot up time is AMAZING, all other devices (USB ports, integrated webcam, mic and speakers, touchpad, wireless, graphics) all worked fine without a HP driver.

I do think it's really worth paying a little more and upgrade to Win 7 instead of downgrading to XP. And if you survive on Vista for more than a year without being driven nuts, you deserve a medal.

Would be interested to receive some feedback. Thanks!

      • its mostly the Graphics card drivers taht doesnt allow you to sleep.
        I use Hiberante instead.

      • I would highly recommend going to Win 7 rather than going back to XP, you are going to have a lot of problems arise with going back to XP on this particular model.
Another important thing to mention here is that, if you run all the Vista updates, its actually not to bad on the DV-3, though win 7 is better.
Please dont shoot me for saying something positive about Vista, I am just passing on what I have seen from selling about 700 of these on the past 4 days.

      • Hi mate. Try the Windows 7 command 'powercfg -lastwake', which will tell you which device woke up your laptop. If you have an external HDD or mouse, that may be doing the deed.

The quicklaunch buttons do work! But you need to install the HP Quicklaunch driver AND the IDT Audio driver, then the buttons work perfectly (including changing colour for mute).

  • I'm reading a lot on things about these drivers, for the sake of asking would MLN provide us with installation discs or will the internet be the only way to obtain these drivers?

    • unfortunately we will not support something we do not recommend, it is part of our policy.
We are not recommending you to downgrade to XP.
MLN only recommends sticking with Vista or going to Win 7 on this particular version, as a company we cannot support or endorse something the manufacturer such as HP or Microsoft do not support or endorse themselves.

      • Does that mean mln will provide support for the right drivers for win 7?

        • HP and Microsoft will provide the right drivers if you install windows 7.

For anyone wishing to do a 'clean' Windows 7 install, here's an EXCELLENT forum post which shows all of the latest drivers from HP, etc for your DV3. I selectively used the following, in this order.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=405785

    Install, in the following order:

Windows 7 install (64-bit if possible - uses all of your 4GB of RAM).
    The F13A BIOS from ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46501-47000/sp46562.exe

Then just install each of these, preferably with a reboot between each. Make sure that you pick 32-bit or 64-bit downloads where you have the option!

    Intel Chipset Device Software
Intel Rapid Storage Technology (SATA AHCI)
    Intel WiFi Link
    LightScribe System Software
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (HD)
    IDT High Definition Audio Codec
    ENE CIR Receiver
    HP Quick Launch Buttons
    Synaptics TouchPad
    HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection

Do not install the Realtek USB 2.0 driver - it makes the device disappear! The Windows driver works fine for the card reader anyway.

You will then have a very lean Windows 7 installation and a very quick laptop, without the bloatware. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this install.

    Cheers, wedge

    • Thanks so much for this, but the link to the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator download seems to have been removed/changed. What exactly is it and is it really necessary? I had a quick look on Intel's website to see if I could download it directly from there and it tried to detect whether any update was needed, but it just stalled during the "install" process. I then briefly went through Device Manager and checked for updates for the chipset there and it said no update was necessary.

Also, LightScribe? Are you sure this DV3-2105TU's default drive has LightScribe?
Wifi Link - is this just an update? When I tried to download it and install it, it seemed to work but it just closed after it was done and there doesn't seem to be any difference. Wireless was already working before I installed it anyway.
and sorry, regarding everything else, I'm assuming they're all just minor updates too right?

edit: QuickLaunch Buttons - they all work, but the 'mute' button's permanently orange regardless of whether it actually is muted or not. Increase/decrease volume works without sound, and the wireless one works absolutely fine. Blue when on, orange when off.

edit2: I've installed everything with the exception of LightScribe System Software and HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection.
LightScribe System Software - not sure if the drive actually has LightScribe support.
HP ProtectSmart - It says "make sure you have the Intel Matrix Storage Manager installed before you install this" - what's that?!

edit3: Turns out the sound does not actually work. Pressing the QuickLaunch mute button does turn the speaker on/off mute but the light remains orange (as if it's on mute). I tried playing some music, tried playing around with the mute button and the volume but it wouldn't play at all.

  • When installing Windows 7 on this, you all get rid of the Recovery partition yea? COMPLETE clean install right?
    What's really in it anyway?

And no need to create recovery discs if we're planning to keep Win 7 I suppose? Does anyone use Acronis True Image?

  • Voting thumbs up, yesterday we ordered two, looking forward to the arrival!

Our Local primary school which i am an I.T tech at purchased 14 of this particular HP model from MLN, and thus far i must say i am overwhelmed by the response i am getting with these machines. Not one of them so far has had any software or hardware related issues as of yet.. However, still running couple tests on the VISTA don't know whether i will downgrade to XP or not… Having made payment on the 1st i was surprised too see them on the door step of the school on the 8th :) also not only was there customer service skills greatly appreciated but they also threw in a free 4GB Kingston USB and LCD cleaner EACH.

    2 thumbs up from me!

  • Is anyone having issues getting the mini remote working in windows 7 x64?
I suppose I should have tested it in vista but I wiped it straight away.
