I want to point out again:

I highly doubt Lenovo will honor IWS (International Warranty Service) for this.

IWS appears to be for people who purchase the tablet overseas (ie. US shipping address on proof of purchase) then travel to to Australia later.

I say this because, the terms (https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/documents/ht074528) explicitly say you must provide "proof of Travel e.g. Passport" that YOU travelled with the device from overseas, ie. it was not delivered from overseas directly from the seller.

Would love to proved wrong, as this is a great buy. But ~$660 is too much for something with only 30 day Amazon return IMO.

    • Hi PainToad,

Very interesting! Is the IWS available on all Lenovo products? The title of the linked page refers to Ideapads only, and I did a quick search on the Lenovo website for Thinkpads with no luck.

I'm in the market for a new laptop and have a US trip later this year. It'd be ideal if I could get it there, bring it back and get local warranty.

      • Only certain devices. Someone on the previous deal found a complete list.

  • Grab one on previous deal, Use XTU tuning and disable dptf in BIOS if you want to get better benchmarks. temper throttle happens by default setting.

    • Can you give us a mini review?

I've been researching them since the last deal (and Harvey Norman had them on special up until yesterday).

My biggest concern is it took them 10 months to "fix" a MAJOR firmware bug with the keyboard, only for it to cause a bunch of other issues (eg. Win key no longer working).

        • Thats worrying.

But a dell latitude 12 2in1 cost around $900 for similar spec in dell outlet.

For similar price point you will need to go to Chinese knockoff brands.

        • @baronseng:

I played with it at Harvey Norman, hardware feels great. But Lenovo seem completely incompetent.

Whilst it is cheap, it is still over $600.

Edit: Another thing I noticed while playing with it. Trackpad scrolling is in reverse (Mac style), but there's no option in the trackpad drivers to make up-up and down-down.

          @baronseng:

Some would argue Lenovo is a Chinese knockoff brand ;)

        • I've also been considering getting one of these since the last deal. The keyboard thing stopped me. It sounds like a great piece of hardware, hamstrung by rubbish software.

I'd actually want to use pen frequently, for both writing and drawing, and from what I've read, it's about as flakey as the keyboard :(

Getting a surface pro equivalent for $640 was obviously too good to be true.

      • no lagging for web browsing/ word processing by default setting battery last around 7 hours for light use
Performance is much improved by XTU but shorten the battery hour as well, profile setting(manually change) is available to solve this problem.

        CINEBENCH r15 beanchmark

default setting: cpu 190 OpenGL 18
        my setting : cpu 243 OpenGL 33

        My XTU setting
core Turbo Boost Power Max 7W
core Boost Short Power Max 14W
        core voltage Offset -70.312500mv
        Processor Graphics Voltage Offset -40.0390625mv

        • So 7 hours with your XTU setting?

          @baronseng:

          Not with my above setting,
you could set your own profiles for light use/ gamer.
video/streaming all good by default setting.

          Thanks!

          Wrong. See above.

        • @PainToad:

well, I have not experienced this issue. do believe its a good alternative for surface pro 3/4 especially with this price.

I have the LTE version of this and like it a lot. About the only negatives I would mention is that the pen is not great (but not why I bought it) and the charger uses a non-standard USB plug, so you can't use universal (or any reasonably priced) car chargers.

Any questions, feel free to ask. But, note I usually use it plugged in, so have no idea on battery life. I think it's a good buy at this price…

  • Yes, much cheaper.

The better thing is you can refund price difference. I did it, thanks OP.

BTW, I am happy with this tablet

    • What does it say when you enter the serial number here?

      http://support.lenovo.com/au/en/warrantylookup?tabName=Warra…

      • that's the date amazon take order from lenovo, email receipt and serial number to Levono US, they will update warranty date for you.

    • How did you get the difference refunded? Through 28 degrees price protection?

      Is 4GB adequate?

      • +2

4gb ram should be sufficient for most users. I would personally avoid chrome with 4gb if you like to stockpile tabs. I personally develop in a vm with 4gb of ram and have no issues at all. VS itself uses about 1.5gb of ram.
