    Great find OP

  • sorry to sound dumb.. but what is the link to this particular card? I clicked the link and could not find specifically the "American Express Platinum Rewards Credit Card".

    • -1

      via referral wiki

      • Thanks! However, it says no annual fee for the first year?

  • Is there a limit to the number of referrals you can give? (General Amex question…)

    • up to 200k referral bonus points per year

  • +3

you only get max 4 supplementary cards

Only offers 1 point per $1

Does not offer purchase/accidental damage protection

      • +3

Yes, but it's by default no annual fee. So if your planning to keep it longer than a year it might save you a bit of hassle switching to it later on.

        • You just cancel and sign up to a new offer after a year. I've been doing this for 6 year with 100% success

        • +1

You're on Ozbagain dude. Nobody here keeps a credit card for longer than a year.

        • +1

If you are in a similar camp like me, who prefer to avoid the cancel/reapply hassle, (I know, not a savvy OZB'er here :-)), there are the other 3 fee-free Amex cards you can consider. I posted a deal for the Amex Essential, and there are also the Qantas Discovery and Velocity card for the different airline programs. Hope this helps.

        • After a year? I don't like the idea of missing out on so many AMEX promotions. That could be just me though.

  • Sounds like a paired down version of platinum edge (without the complimentary flight and travel insurance but with a lower annual fee). Good for someone who only wants it mainly for their grocery shopping.

On the page for platinum edge, it mentions "Complimentary enrolment in the Membership Rewards Ascent program saving you $80 per year". But I don't see any reference to that fee (or the lack of the fee) on the T&Cs for the platinum reward card. Wonder if that means they'll charge you $80 per year just to be able to earn membership reward points.

Is this the same card which offered a complimentary domestic flight ticket within east coast a few months back? If I was to get card mainly to avail Amex offers, I would rather go for one which doesn't incur annual fees ever (basic one) and not the one which is free only for the first year.

    • +1

No, this is a basic card that does not offer flights or lounge access. For a card with an ongoing $0 annual fee, you need the AMEX Essential, AMEX Discovery or AMEX Velocity Escape. Note that none of these cards offer a free flight, though the Discovery and Velocity Escape offer a larger sign on bonus if you use a referral link.

  • How much cashback for 10K points?

  • Which Platinum card is it? Platinum Edge or just Platinum?

    • Just platinum.

      • If it's American Express Platinum, isnt it the one with $1200 annual fee?
But that one has lots of other benefits and quite a few bonus points.
        I am somewhat puzzled…

        • AMEX Platinum Rewards

        • @easternculture:
          Thanks.
Amex could be a bit more inventive with the card names.

        • @bob19: true, lol, we got titanium and diamonds too.

  • Is this new Amex customer only?

    • You can have a maximum of 2 AMEX cards under your name

NOTE: This deal is only for people who don't already hold an AMEX card. You also have to meet an (albeit small) minimum spend.

Offer only available to new American Express Card Members who apply via this page, are approved and spend $550 on their new Card in the first 2 months of Card Membership. Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product offered by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 12 month period are ineligible for this offer.

AMEX usually do not enforce this rule. At one stage a few years back, I had 3 AMEX issued cards under my name all claimed with offers

  • I noticed Amex have reduced the amount of points the referrer gets.. wasn't it 30k previously?
    Now it's 10k ! :|

    • 30k was for the Platinum Edge, at least.

      • yeah I just checked for the plat edge, that's been reduced to 10k :/

        • I referred a friend to it while the bonus was 30k, they only gave me 10k. Took me a month and a bit of chasing to get the extra 20k but I finally got it.

        • @theguyrules:

I signed up through a professional organisation which was meant to give 10k points - a month or more after signing up I hadn't received the points and they changed the offer which meant people signing up didn't get the points anymore. When I questioned them about it, they said no we can see the offer you signed up on, and it didn't have any points etc.. and then asked if I had a screenshot of it.

LUCKILY I did take a screenshot of the offer showing the 10k points. So I ended up getting the points, I don't think they were going to give it to me without a screenshot which is a bit concerning.

        • @bohn: Yeah, I luckily had a screenshot too. They were trying to tell me the offer never existed.
Pretty damn useless, I was close to cancelling my card then and there but I hadn't spent my existing points or used my free flight.

        • @theguyrules:

I didn't need a screen shot for that offer . The lady was very nice and waived the fee for me after putting me on hold for 5 minutes

        • @easternculture: It wasn't for the fee, that got waived straight away. it was for referring a friend, the 30k referral bonus.

        • @theguyrules:

Yeah they told me that offer never existed also.
They said they can see the 'codes' in the background which indicate what I was entitled to, and all I was entitled to was a free first year and no points. Luckily I had the screenshot, but I told them I shouldn't have to screenshot things to get what I was entitled to.

    • The 30k bonus was only for the month of July (all AMEX referrals were increased 3 x) Now back to the usual 10,000 points.

      • Ah right.

  • Can't find any details about this card - any lounge access?

    • Details can be found when clicking through one of the links in the Amex Referral Wiki. No lounge access.

      • Thanks

  • Not to be a d***, but weren't personal referrals banned? just curious

  • +5

OP, curious as to why you've deleted the AMEX wiki referral link from the body of the deal so that only your direct referral link remains?

    • The main link in the deal is the Amex Referral Wiki. There is no way to get this deal without going through a referral link via the wiki (we've searched AMEX, Finders site etc.).

      • +1

Appreciate it is referral only, however the way the deal reads as though one can only apply through OP's link now that he has deleted the link to the AMEX Referral Wiki.

  • Can I ask how did people first applied for this credit card if it's only accessible through referral?

    • It was available on Amex's site but they've taken it down for some reason. See Finder.

      • Thanks, seems first year is always free.

  • I got call from Amex today and basically they told me that card is not available anymore and they can't provide it.

I explained that I applied via referral link and submitted form via their webpage. However they could not accept it and they could not see source of application. We agreed I will reply via email with link for application but still did not receive anything from them. It is all strange.

    • +1

if they still are adamant about this, try and request the Platinum edge with free 1st year

      • LOL, the one with the $1200 annual fee. Good luck with that.

        • That's the Platinum Charge, the Platinum Edge comes with a $195 fee. However, suspect anyone trying to a get a fee waiver on the Edge at this point will be unsuccessful. That offer ran out in July, and the annual fee has been advertised for the card ever since. When I tried to get it in late August, they told me in no uncertain terms that the offer had been expired for ages, and wouldn't budge.

      • Actually they mentioned that it has been replaced by Edge one but we have not progress on application for it. I will try your suggestion if they would like to progress with my application.

        • Interested to know how you went requesting the plat edge with waived annual fee?

  • Does anyone know how long it normally takes to typically get approved (or declined), for this card?

    • I applied yesterday and got a call from amex today saying this card is not available anymore, it was an error from their side that I was allowed to submit my application and they would not be proceeding with the application

      • so it is not valid anymore?

      • +1

I can also confirm. I applied once and got a call from amex saying there was an error. Then I applied again and got another phone call. They said you need to apply directly from website.

      • Did you try requesting the plat edge with free first year for your inconvenience? Interested to know if this works or not..

        • Inconvenience? Took me less than 5min to sign up. Amex a generous but not that generous.

  • Did anyone get it approved? :(

  • Card has now been removed from AMEX website and referral links (including OP's above) deactivated.
