  • I'd give my eye teeth for a nice faux leather case… Don't see many faux in the wild these days…

  • Any thoughts as to whether or not it's worth buying this to crack open the case and throw into a PS3 (voiding warranty)?

    • I have no experience here: but isn't the general rule that if you can buy an internal drive cheaper, then don't bother with an external drive?

      http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=500GB+2.5%22&sp…
      They start at $79

      • Thanks for replying! I was thinking of putting the spare hard drive from the PS3 into the case from the external drive, that way I don't have to buy a separate case.

        • keep in mind that some of these are direct USB disks use without any sata interface and are not suitable for PS3

          • @skinny: That totally slipped my mind, thanks for the heads up!

  • Is this the same unit as DSE was selling last week for $97?

Another price-beat opportunity, perhaps. OW probably has a similar price at the moment to avoid selling at 5% less.

    • I didn't see the unit DSE was selling last week, but it seems doubtful they would assemble portable hard drives. After all, this is not a marketed pre-assembled unit from Western Digital

  • Looks like a Scorpio Blue inside a aluminium case. Nothing special in terms of gigabytes per dollar? But hey, the case has a slim form factor and the pouch looks nice lol

  • the segate last week was quite nice, 2.5", 500gb, price matched @ OW for $74.10, and multiple purchases weren't an issue!!

hmmm, another 500gb … nah, 2x 500's, 1x 320 & 1x 120 is enough for 2.5" drives for now … when they're below 70 i'll buy a few more … it seems like a good size to have … any bigger and i'd be quite upset if it died …

  • don't see why this is a bargain.. many 500GB external drives, albeit different brands, are less than this price.

  • There is a glut of 500GB 2.5" USB drives around this price (and even cheaper). A good price, yes, but not a bargain.

  • As above, not really a bargain IMO, especially when this appears to be just an internal 2.5" WD drive placed in an OEM external casing.

Also, factory-made 500GB 2.5" external drives from WD, Seagate and Samsung have been appearing on here for about the same or even less on a fairly regular basis.
