  • The Dell XPS 13 Signature Edition Laptop is a reasonable buy too. $500 off - $1999 down from $2499 RRP.
    13.3-inch QHD+ touchscreen Intel Core i7-6500U 8GB memory/256GB SSD
Dell's site shows $2,299.00 for that config

The QHD+ has less battery life than the FHD…

      • Yeah. Looking at the specs, the Dell XPS is running out because they've just released a new version with the i7-7500. That looks pretty sweet.

        • Only in Japan, I thought

      • QHD+ has less battery life than the FHD…

Cake… Half the battery for quadruple font and vector resolution.

Native HD at 13" is too small, so, requires scaling. If doing scaling, might as well do from QHD+.

        Only in Japan, I thought

and now here, but without QHD+

    • $2299 is FHD version. QHD+ is still $2499 in Dell site.

I picked up a couple of Lenovo X1s for work at a steal. Just start a chat after getting the best price via coupons and the rep will give you an even better price. Got it reduced from 2.2k(with coupon already applied) to 1.75k. So try your luck there first with similar specs.

    • ThinkPad X1 Carbon?

      • +1

        Yup

        • Hi Raging, quick question (off topic):
How do you find the battery life on your ThinkPad X1 carbon? I got one recently too and it has a disturbingly short battery life (approx 2 hours, with very little use)

        • @carlscott1982:

still sitting in boxes. they are for a different team. will run a test and letyou know.

        • @raging: Thanks mate

        • @carlscott1982:
Ran a 4k video on 75% brightnest (2560x1440 reso), went from 100% to 75% playing for 2 hours.

Sounds like you need to get onto lenovo.

        • @raging: Thanks again Raging. Confirms my suspicions. Yep, first thing I did when I got it was send it back (really annoying process). The techs looked at it, did nothing, and sent it back to me saying it was fine. I'll run the exact same test you did.

  • Has anyone heard anything bad about dell laptops?

was considering buying myself this one here
    http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15-5567-laptop/pd?oc=z5108…

    • Inspiron's Dell cheapest range… but it makes no difference if you also buy 3 year warranty.

  • Thoughts on the Toshiba? Need a small (11-14") notebook for browsing, word processing, media playback / streaming etc. Suitable?

  • Acer Aspire Switch 10 E SW3-013-17H8 Signature Edition 2-in-1 PC looks decent for the price?

Any idea if the RAM is stuck @ 2GB?

    • NM, I did a chat & it is upgrade-able to 4GB max & will void warranty to do so :P

  • Any thoughts about HP Spectre X2 12-A002TU FHD/M5/8GB/256GB?its compact but want to know if performance wise is good or not?

    • no response to this? :(

i'm planning to buy this too. suggest price match via HP aus store and pay with AMEX (need to register for their spend $500-get $100 credit deal). there's a post on ozb somewhere…

      • +1

price match with HP is treated as an in-store order according to the sale chat so you may not get back the AMEX cash since it must be an online order

        • thanks for clarifying :)

i had incorrectly assumed since both online orders and orders via their online sales chat (HP aus store) were processed through the same billing entity that amex wouldn't be able to make the distinction!

good thing i didn't proceed. wanted to use 2 credit cards but they couldn't do it
