  • I have the top of line go6100
Good gps but the operating system is shit
    Laggy and slow data entry

I do however use the mobile app and send it to the gps via its built in data sim so that eases some of the pain there

They need to really fix this issue in a firmware update imho

    • yeah, i got top of line last year go 5100 and really wanna upgrade to go 6100 if they fix the issue from update system :(. otherwise i still happy with 5100 atm

      • What issue are you having
        Mine updates fine
Sometimes the sim drops out and I need to reboot it but overall it works fine
The high screen resolution makes it better too

        • i renew speed camera, and the update system keep asking me to update it (i already did).
and the only thing i dont like is they allow 6xxx model get free update for camera speed while 5xxx model doesn't

        • @ZombieLover:
Never had that issue myself on my tomtom when I looked at the 5100 it includes lifetime everything included cameras, strange yours didn't

A simple email and they fixed mine up for me to allow lieftime cameras and updates for free

  • TomTom's Lifetime Maps are useless if it takes a lifetime to update

    http://www.cnet.com/au/news/tomtoms-lifetime-maps-are-useles…

    • +2

The new update program works perfectly fine
I've never had an issue updating or upgrading my maps via the computer
Its more the general usage of the unit that's slow and glitchy for me

      You're quoting a 2012 document, seriously ?

And even the update version in 2014 is out dated, the updates are WAY better today and if not painless smooth as

Support is also fine, had an issue one email and fixed within 24 hours, I can live with that being a gps unit

  • '3 Months Speed Cameras', does it mean I would have to use the legacy speed cameras data for the 'lifetime'?

    • As per tomtom rep over chat: "After 3 months, the GPS will show the alerts but it will not be the latest ones"

  • Can any of you TomTom owners comment on how good the TomTom traffic accuracy and real time info is compared to Google maps.

I can now see that Google traffic is highly accurate and I reach traffic pretty much where it is marked red on Google maps. The rerouting is excellent.

Would the TomTom traffic perform the same if connected to data either by SIM or by my phone.

I now find Google traffic indispensable in Sydney and would like a solution which has updated maps compared to my car sat navigation.

    • Google traffic works using Crowd Sourcing data whcich is why you get instant updates
Tom Tom gets its info from the DOT's data which it is not as good.

    • It's pretty good actually if not better than Google maps traffic in Brisbane

As for people saying its not as good
Probably not if you have the basic fm traffic transmitter but my go6100 is a proper SIM card and real time live traffic and it's bloody terrific with Brisbane traffic

One feature that sold me was this and the fact I didn't need to rely on fm traffic which is only good in cities and not when you're out in the middle of no where

    • I'll further add that Google traffic is hit and miss and I've seen people completely mess up using it, nothing beats local knowledge and back roads saving even more time and avoiding the bottlenecks that Google creates by moving traffic

  • My parent's tom tom had lifetime maps, but it won't update the maps anymore as the lifetime is apparently over, funny it still works fine! Just putting that out there

  • How this gps connected to the source of live traffic? Fm? Wifi? Or Bluetooth?

    Thanks!

    • I believe it connects to your phone via bluetooth to source live traffic.

    • I thought all Tomtom and Garmin uses SUNA for traffic.
Its an antenna on your power cable which receives the traffic data like you receive DAB radio stations.
