Intel NUC Barebone Kit (BOXNUC5PPYH), $206.40, @ Dick Smith by Kogan

I was wanting an Intel NUC to use as a media PC (Kodi using OpenElec or LibreElec).

The N3700 is fast enough for most HTPC duties and with Kodi will do HD Audio passthrough (including Doldy Atmos and DTS:X) and hardware x265.

This worked out a little cheaper for me than the previous Amazon price due to my cc's international transaction fees (I don't have a 28deg card, I know, not a true OZbargainer!).

  • N3700 is fast enough for most HTPC duties and with Kodi will do HD Audio passthrough (including Doldy Atmos and DTS:X) and hardware x265.

interested, but, what sort of things wouldn't it be able to do? 10 bit HEVC acceleration?

    • One CPU spec site says it can do 8-bit HEVC decoding, but not 10-bit, and certainly not accelerated encoding.

The other limitation I can see is that it only has HDMI 1.4b so no 4k/60Hz support.

It looks like a worthy upgrade to my N2820 NUC but I'll probably wait for the newer generation of NUCs which can handle HDMI 2.0.

  • If you were going to only use Kodi/OpenElec/LibreElec, I'd get a Beelink MiniMx, does HEVC 10BIT at 4k 60fps and there's a LibreElec build for it. I've got a j1900 Gigabyte nuc-off (hehe) and it will play 1080p 10bit hevc as long as it's not doing anything else. I use it as a server though doing all my downloads and fileserving etc.

  • People need to stop buying media players with hdmi 1.4 otherwise it's gonna be a huge regret when 4k 60fps stuff gain momentum.

  • How does this compare with the Intel Compute Stick Mini PC Atom Z3735F?

  • Just bought a Vorke v1. Which is a full system, with a similar processor, including 4gb expandable ram, 64gb ssd, with extra 2.5 capacity and windows 10 preinstalled for $211 delivered from TNT from geekbuying, which may suit some peoples needs better. Can provide $40 discount code if anyone wants it.

    • Interested in this. Are you still running Windows 10? Any reason you couldn't wipe it and install Openelec.

    • Looks good but it is a Celeron not a Pentium.

  • Had a few messages, so VKV140 is the code. Pretty sure it only works if you dont order extras.

I haven't received mine yet. But have been running a pipox7 with a 3736f chip for the last 2 years. Which does 1080p, plex, FoxtelGo quite well. Although there were heat issues and 2gb ram slowed it down. The v1 should perform much better.
