It's a unique code per newsletter sent out … just sign up to their newsletter: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/General/Instant-Deals/
And I am sure a few people will share here their code for the community. :-)

      • -6

        so its a targetted offer?

        • +2

No, you give JB your email and they give you a unique coupon, anyone with an email address can get one.

        • +1

Targeted to the thousands on JB’s Instant Deals mailing list, not the unique deals that get posted frequently that shouldn't. There have been a tonne of these JB Instant Deals mailing list deals posted on OzB, which is how I found out about the mailing list to start with.

        • +2

Not really targeted … as everyone can sign up to the newsletter for free!

(But I guess it is not working now for this deal … just for the next deals).
But as expected … there are lots of friendly ozbargainers sharing codes here … :-)

  • just about to post, beat me to it…very good deal indeed.

As much as I would love to, I can’t justify spending that when my 650s work so well, and I still have an unopened one for when an existing one gets dropped and broken as I know it will eventually.

What makes this remote worth $200? (or $400 for that matter!)
I know I should buy now and think later but I really want to know! Would it only be worth it if I have lots of automated home devices (like the LIFX bulbs I got recently?)

    • Note you can add LIFX into activities but you can't program a button on your remote to turn your light / lights on or off etc.

      • Couldn't you just assign a LIFX activity to one of the light bulb buttons?

        • Yes, Setup an activity called "Turn on Lights" (or add this to any other activities) and then set the power settings to NOT turn off the device when switching activities. That way they will stay on when switching around, then when you press the OFF button, they will turn off.

        • @ExtremeDavo: Can you separate them from the master Off command button? I was thinking short press on, long press off using the light bulb button.

        • @myfeetarehappy: Yep - exactly as you've suggested you can assign them to one of the "lights" buttons and can switch them on/off that way, which is what I do.. You also get a slider under "devices" where you can control all (off/on/slide for brightness) as well as being able to drill down further and apply to individual bulbs if you have multiple.

      • +2

Wrong - you can add lifx lights to the light buttons at the bottom left (and the socket buttons at the bottom right if need be) - these buttons will turn the lights on and off when you're in any activity (or not even not in an activity at all). The rocker between those buttons will adjust the brightness.

        • Aah, thanks mate. This remote has dedicated smarthome buttons. My model doesn't. I can add Lifx into activities but can't assign the lights to hard buttons on the remote itself. Will have a bit of a play in case the software has added more support.

Maybe I should have grabbed this deal after all!

      • Yes you can.
Turn on and off and change brightness.

Just follow this article. I have just done it on my remote.

  • Wow - awesome deal!

  • What does provide over my old Harmony One?
    (this one) http://s.productreview.com.au/products/images/logitech-harmo…

    • +1

The Harmony Elite comes with a hub. Which is also an IR Blaster. The remote connects to the hub with RF so you don't need line of sight. There's also 2 little IR emitters so you can hide your equipment out of sight and still control it.

      • Oh does this include the Hub also? I already have one from the Ultimate version but another is a bonus.

    • +2

As a past owner of a Harmony One I think the Elite is much better. The remote uses Bluetooth to speak to a hub which sends out the IR signals, which means the remote doesn't need line of sight when inputting commands. Personally that alone is a gamechanger, as missed commands from the older style was really annoying.

      • Hmm, bluetooth? So these might also be able to be used to control PS3 and PS4s? I'll have to research this. Tempting.

        • +1

Yes the Elite can be paired with the PS3 and PS4.

        • @fatpizza: Thanks. Hmm, this really is tempting now. I might even start using my PS4 more frequently for stuff other than games with this. I use the PS3 with RHID through my receiver, but it is a little limited.

        • +1

          @Mobe1969: FYI - It can't turn a PS4 on, only DS4 can do that.

        • +2

          @Mobe1969:
Make sure to do your research though, as the Elite works better with the PS3 than it does the PS4. For example you can't use the Elite to power on the PS4 (last time I checked anyway), however it can power on the PS3 etc.
          Edit: Beaten. :)

        • @XeKToReX: That's fine.

You can power on a PS3 and PS4 with RHID from a receiver though.

        • @fatpizza:

Hmm, that is interesting. It might actually explain why I had so many issues with RHID on the PS4. It would work for a bit, but then I ended up with the wrong Playstation being turned on - I always thought it was the receiver's fault. Maybe it was related to whatever restrictions the PS4 has. I ended up disabling RHID on the PS4.

      • Hmm, does that mean the Hub needs to be placed in front of the TV Unit and associated equipment or something?
One thing I noticed with the Harmony One is there is some lag when pressing keys, which no amount of tweaking was able to resolve. Have they fixed this?

        • +1

Yeah you stick the hub where all your equipment is. This also includes two extenders which plug into the back of the hub, which can be used to add extra reach to any devices which dont seem to receive enough signal from the hub.

      • +2

The remote uses Bluetooth to speak to a hub which sends out the IR signals,

I thought the remote connects to the hub over RF, then the hub sends out IR and bluetooth?

        • I thought it was Bluetooth… If I'm wrong I apologise. Functionally though I guess it doesn't change what I'm saying in regards to the end user experience though. :)

        • @fatpizza:

  • Can I use this remote to control my Home theatre. But them take it into my Living room and control those devices?

    • Yes.

  • +11

considering buying this for my $50 TV.

  • I've got the smart hub with the standard screenless remote that came with it and must say I love how compact that little remote is. Doesn't need charging etc.

Prior to that I had a harmony one.

Not missing the larger size, or having the screen, but still having a think as to why I should get this.

    I'm not there yet!

  • +4

Ooooo, finally a remote where the touch screen is above the play etc. buttons. So annoying on my other Logitech remote, keep fat palming the touch screen

    • +1

I'm trying to convince myself to NOT buy this - the only reason I need to is to resolve the problem you've mentioned - the ergonomics of the Ultimate One I have is just crazy with the play buttons above the screen.

Is removing the annoyance worth $200 though… :)

      • Good to see I'm not the only one facing this first world problem here and trying to decide if is a $200 problem.

  • +1

    if anyone wants 921BHDDK8WNRGZ

  • Anyone know if there are any significant differences between this and the presumably superceded Harmony Ultimate which also came with a Hub and IR blasters?

    • Better button placement, better touchscreen, more devices I think also.

    • +2

I couldn’t stand the button placement on the Ultimate, this fixes that bad layout so all frequent use controls are below the screen, and closer to your hand. I think the weight balance is better too.

      • Yeah I just bought one to replace the Ultimate due to the button layout.

      • Hmmm I can't say the button placement really annoys me on the Ultimate… in actual fact i hardly ever use those buttons.

More devices I don't think is true, as they both use the same database from Logitech.

But this is a pretty good bargain - cheapest I ever saw the Ultimate was $230, and most bargains were around $270.

    …and I thought I got a bargain at $270 a few weeks back. D'oh! ;)

This is so worth it over old Harmony remotes (had a 'Touch') just for it not missing commands like the others have a habit of unless you point at the exact sweet spot. Plus better placement of buttons.
