  • I tried it on the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 - 256GB / Intel Core i5 which is already marked down 10% and it didn't do anything. Worked on accessories.

    • +1

You have to click via the link in my post to get 15% off the entire range. The 10% off is a separate promo.

      • Ahh yes that worked. Thanks!

  • Tried applying to Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2 or Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter [Listed under Surface Accessories], it didn't work. Worked on Surface Ethernet Adapter though. Looks like, the code works on only those accessories which contain the keyword "Surface".

  • I needed to end the 10th for TRS :(

Anyone using lightroom with the entry Pro 4?

    • +3

      I had the i5, 4gb ram version.

Definitely need the 8gb for light room usage. I was hesitant to pay the extra $499 for 128gb more SSD storage and 4gb ram… It felt a bit like an 'apple' move from Microsoft charging so much for that.

The i5, 4gb Ram with lightroom - It wasn't a great experience. Batch processing was very slow. Once I completed editing a photo, I would click on the next photo and it would take a couple seconds to load (this is because it's such a High res screen, very taxing on the computer, and no dedicated video card/needs RAM). I think it's 2736x1824.

Personally this is one of the reason I hate high resolution screens on Windows (software is not very well optimised for it and makes it very power hungry).

Basically, if you have one or two photos - it's not terrible. If you start doing localised adjustments/brushes, it lags a little bit (you sort of have to guess where the mouse is going
      to be).

I ended up selling my surface because it wasn't powerful enough for my needs. For everyday computing - it was more than enough.

If you have the money get the 8gb ram version.

But realistically, if you're on a tight budget - I would buy this instead the spectre from this deal instead: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/266771. Much better value for money, similar size, also 1920x1080 (which is much better for photo editing on a mobile device due to limited grunt)

      • Thanks

      • More to do with the 15w CPU and the 4GB of RAM than the higher res i would say. Even at low res it still needs to load the full photo and render it on the screen, its not particularly taxing on the graphics. Gaming is another story though.

        • I would always leave task manager on to monitor performance - most of the time I would use all 4gb ram(It would go to 3.7gb, then refresh to 3gb multiple times).. The CPU was always below 10-15%.. only when I hit "process" (as the final step) - then CPU would play a large role.

      • just never go below 8gb..

        • For most people who are using it for word processing, note taking, browsing internet, general office work - 4gb is sufficient. With the SSD, boot times and general usage is actually amazing on the i5 6200u +4gb Ram version! I also had a 64gb sd card for additional storage permanently in there..

    • I have the i5 8GB SP3

would definitely recommend 8GB of RAM

  • Does this work in conjunction with the Surface 4% cash back?

    • +2

      Yes.

      • Nice! This should be included in the title :)

        • +2

No, it shouldn't. Cashback from websites are never included in the title.

      • Hi TA,

Could you help me with the steps to get the 4% cashback on top? Normally you could go via the affiliate link on the Cashrewards site. Would the cashback be picked up if done via your link on your post for the 15% off offer?

        Thanks for your help

        • +1

Hi hubbske. Click the Cashrewards link in the description then go to 'Shop Now'. I've set this up specifically for this offer.

    • How does cash back work? Pay full, then 4% gets deposited into bank account?

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 - 256GB / Intel Core i5 would come down to $1631.19?

      • Yes.

There's a delay before you receive the cashback to make sure you don't refund the item and get a free CB.

  • Hmm… I can't get the code working for this case. When I try to apply the code the page just refreshes - no error message or anything. Are there any exclusions?

    • +1

Hi. I've updated the post with the conditions. Thanks.

Valid only on Surface Pro 4, Surface Book and Surface Accessories (does not include Surface 3 accessories).

This is awesome TA. Was at the Microsoft store the other day admiring their products and played with their VR system.

  • Hey so Im thinkng.

Should I get the Surface Book 128GB i5 (which is a pretty good price) or the XPS 15 (touch screen 16gb ram, 256GB SSD)??

    Which is the better laptop?

    • +1

I'd say it depends if you want a more traditional laptop or the 2 in 1 of the surface. I should also mention to you that the Dell XPS 15 (particularly with 4k screen) has a reputation for driver problems, I returned one last week :( which is a shame because its the prettiest screen.

    15% off +4% cashrewards+ 10% student discount = 29% off?

    • let me know if they stack!

    • Student discount never stacks in my experience

    • I'd like to know that too. Good deal if that.

      • Coupon code applies to orginal price, not on top of Student discount.

  • Surface book or wait for the new macbook pro retina?

    • i have a surface pro 4 and a 2015 15 inch macbook pro retina with dedicated graphics. I still find myself using the macbook more but the whole pen and tablet thing with the surface is pretty leet. I'm tempted to get a surfacebook but honestly I don't really need it. Give it serious thought if you think you are going to use the pen a whole lot. I thought I would, but I still like paper and a fountain pen much more.

      • Appreciate the reply will end up waiting thanks

    • +1

      Just wait.

Even if you don't end up getting the MBP, a new refresh of Surface line with Kaby Lake is due Q4.

      • Thanks
Yeah I figure I may as well wait for a updated one

  • I love my SP3 and it's kinda tempting to get the SP4 typing cover but I reckon I'll wait until my current keyboard dies (it's been 1 year, 3 months and still looking pretty darn good!).

  • So hard to decide to pay the extra $500 (i5) for the additional storage and ram !!

    • Get it if you need the RAM as well as the storage. If you only need the storage, just buy an SD card. 128GB for $50 is common.

      • SD card much more likely to fail than a SSD…

        • Backup.

I'm surprised how many people don't back up. It's crazy. I don't know anyone in my extended family who backs up. Just waiting for an epic fail.

        • If you want to pay 10 times more for "fail protection", go for it. It's not like SSD never fails either.

If it's data I can't afford to lose, I would never have only one copy of it. If the card fails, buy another. You can buy 10 of them for $500. But don't forget your warranty also. Sandisk has lifetime warranty, Samsung has 10 years. So you don't necessarily have to buy another. If the internal SSD fails, you have one year (or two — I didn't check) warranty with it (along with the rest of the device).

  • Thanks - got the pen tip kit; not a lot of discount for the small spent but still appreciated!

  • Surface and SurfaceBook. Such awesome stylish products. Mrs has a surface book, I still ha e my Surface Pro. When work need to be done, better than a Clydesdale horse 🐴

  • Hi, Should the code apply to all surface book accessories or just a select few? I can get it to work with only a few.

  • I'm having trouble updating my SP4 to Anniversary. Been trying for days. It reaches a certain percentage downloaded and then it just stops downloading. I'm monitoring network traffic and the downloading has stopped even though there is nothing wrong with my connection. It's frustrating.

I've tried it using Windows Update in settings as well as downloading the W10 Update Assistant tool. Same results.

    • Why not just do an offline update using a USB?

    • Can you turn off windows update ? I'm mostly using hotspot and I don't want it to download the update when I'm not using unlimited data. Thanks

      • You can mark networks as 'limited bandwidth' (not exact wording) and Windows will avoid updates when connected.

      • You can set it to metered data and it won't auto update.

If you have Pro you can defer updates, but I think that's the installation only.

There is an app you can download that blocks updates. Search for WinUpdatesDisabler_x64.exe

  • Do you think jb hifi will price match? Hoping to get it instore tonight

    • Would assume so. If not, try HN and OW. They definitely will.

      • Officeworks no longer seem to stock the Surface Pro.

    • JB did price match. Now enjoying my Surface Book
