  • so if you manage to recharge a few times to make a total of $80, you can unlock the phone for free?

    • Yes

  • damnnit - not available here :-(

  • this is a dumb ques but what does it mean that it is locked? n how will they know that you have recharged a total of $80?

    • You have to use it on the Optus network (It's "locked" to Optus). After you reach $80 recharge (they track your account, calls made, balance, etc via their system) then they can provide you with a code you enter in the phone to "unlock" it which then lets you use it in future with another phone company should you choose to change.

Keep in mind that you can get unlocked phones cheap if you look around. eg. Page 16 of the current Telechoice catalogue http://www.telechoice.com.au/deals/catalogue has:

    Samsung E1070 $39
    Nokia 1209 $49
    Samsung E1310 $59
    and more…

It's always smarter to shop around for a good phone plan as getting a cheap handset tied to an expensive plan will cost you more in the long run.

  • Sold out in Armadale WA, this model is also not available at Kmart, Big W, Target, or Dick Smith.

daydream - true, also means that those of us on Optus and in need of a new mobile miss a great deal

Optus require $80 recharge or 6 months to release their phones.
So, if I buy this, use up the $30 credit within the month and then just put in a drawer for another five months, can I release it for free?
Also, being on the same network, does anyone know if these will work with Virgin sims?

    • I'd say so with the 6months, yes. As for Virgin I'd think they would, can't think of any reason why they wouldn't.

  • nice deal got one at coles oakleigh

  • Coles Campbellfield is out of stock

  • I wonder if SIM from TPG will work in this mobile?
    (TPG uses Optus network)

    • It should - they network lock on most phones.

  • Can anyone who has actually bought this phone confirm that it is model E1170? I can't find any information about this model existing, even on the Samsung website.

Will this work on virgin network (they use OPTUS, right?)

  • out of interest would anyone know if you could you use the $30 recharge on another prepaid optus phone? I am on post-paid optus and only need cheap phone and my old one has died. thanks!

    • I used my credit on my Iphone….so yes you can use it on another optus prepaid phone.

  • thanks heaps rw123 quick reply !

  • To answer peoples general questions.

Yes it works on Virgin Mobile. Bought one today and tried it no problems making or receiving calls and texts.
This phone doesn't have 3G Internet functions and has no memory card slot.
****It is sold out at Indooroopilly Coles, Kenmore Coles and Toowong Coles (since I called to check this morning, I bought the last one from Toowong). ****Brisbane People Only****
If you use it for 6 months or Yes recharge it once and leave it for 6 months Optus will unlock it for free.
If you recharge 80 dollars worth, that means a 30 dollar recharge and a 50 dollar or 3 30 dollars = 90 dollars Optus will also unlock it for free.

The functions of the phone are very limited but it has everything I need for a phone to make/receive calls and send/receive text. It has a great speaker, it is loud and clear the alarm is also very good.
The phone doesn't come with a headset only the phone, a simpack, a battery (not a spare one just the 1Xbattery) and a wall charger +manuals.

Let me know if you guys haveanymore questions

  • Its sold out everywhere in the eastern suburbs!!! Any1 get 1 or no of stock in sydney???

  • Try Coles Norwest(near Bella Vista, Baulkham Hills way). Bought one today for hubby and he likes it, he only wants a basic phone, as long as it has an added handsfree/speakerphone feature, he's happy. Model no for this phone is GT-E1170T.

Oh and it also has a 'fake call' feature (quoting the manual, "….to get out of meetings or unwanted conversations"), lol we had a good laugh over that one… Shame my $70 Motorola V3 doesn't have that feature :o)

  • Does this $30 be used to recharge other optus prepaid which we already have? Or does this work only with the SIM they give? and is this still available in any store in NSW?

    • The voucher and the SIM are seperate - so you can use the recharge voucher on your already active Optus Pre-Paid service.
