  • Probably about time they priced them correctly. As these are not good quality !!

    • More than likely reduced due to their HDR models starting to show up as available for sale this week:

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

    • What makes you say they're not good quality?

      • Possibly that they are not really Philips anymore. The name is now a rebrand for TP Vision.

        • Does that mean it's necessarily bad?

    • I read in forums the picture is really good it just needs to be tweaked

What is ambilight system like in reality?

To me it seems like a gimmick I would turn off, but some people seem to love it.

    • seems like a gimmick

nope, it's s cheap way to increase perceived contrast - darkness on cheapshit LCD is not possible, however, if your pupil can be constricted, as a response to extra environmental light (ie. ambilight), then the screen will look darker in comparison.

      • You have it wrong.

Anyway, YouTube search Stat Wars ambilight to see a good example. It's actually a pretty cool effect, extending the scene and atmosphere beyond the screen.

As for the screens on these TVs, it's hard to know since the four JB stores near me have never had them on display, so the price drop is the first most of us have heard from them.

Their original LCD TVs a few years back were brilliant and at the time the had the best motion enhancement of any brand. Not sure how the current models compare though.

          You have it wrong.

No that's pretty much how eyes work.

@Diji1: Wrong as in what the feature is for.

    • I know someone with one from about 8 years ago (still going) and it's actually quite nifty. I wish I had it. You can adjust how quickly it responds to the on screen picture and I'm pretty sure how strong the ambilight is (and turn it off of course).

I believe you can add the function to other TV's using an HDMI splitter hack.

  • they look abit like a rebranded Kogan TV

  • sorry out of topic: is LG or Samsung better in terms of price vs value? not thinking about sony, philips, panasonic, sonic, kogan, etc.

    • piece of string….

    • Value aside LG make the best TVs in the world. Oled and only $4000 for the 65 inch. (Aside from a Panasonic oled which is very rare)
Quite funny to think lg used to be called Goldstar and was the 'soniq' brand of the 80's

      • +1

how its just called Lucky Goldstar

      • And soon some Chinese company will have that title. It really comes down to who can make things cheaper and faster for the masses now adays not so much quality.

      • $4000 for 65" OLED?? Didn't know that, don't you mean 55"? We bought UH770T (regular LED) for $2800 but it has dirty screen effect/vertical banding on bright, panning film which is very distracting. Would consider returning and upgrading to OLED for $1200 more.. but I have not seen 65" for that price, $6500 on JB website.

        • Have you tried tweaking settings? Most of the time these days you need to change settings

        • @TRENT86: wouldn't know where to begin with that. And I don't think it would make much difference to be honest, not sure how the problem could be completely eliminated.

        • @nubzy: Maybe it's a defect? did you see them in store & were the others like that?

        • @TRENT86: not sure but I have read a review for Uk version which said grey uniformity is not good. Harvey Norman review for this model also has someone complaining about dirty screen effect. Going to check JB when I get a chance. Only visible on certain programs, mostly with sky and panning shots.

@nubzy: Maybe have a look at this, I think it's the same TV otherwise yeah I would check them in store http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uh7700/settings

        • Would never trust LG. Worst failure rate of any brand I've ever had. 6 of 7 items dead. The only LG item that wouldnt die was a microwave. It's probably nuked me so I'll die instead.

    • Panasonic TVs are at least AS GOOD AS Samsung and LG. I have purchased 4 (including 1 plasma) in the last 10 years (2 in the last 18 months), and each time I compare in store before buying. PS - All 4 are still going strong!

      • A Panasonic plasma will give better quality than most 4K lcds and even has advantages over oled

        • really? I better hang onto my 54" pana plasma. Was seriously considering the 70" Hisense.

        • @gimme: what is the model?

        • @gimme: yes hold onto it.. Plasma has advantages of LED. The LCD/LED are a real lottery. So many possible issues, dirty screen effect being one of the major and very distracting ones..

        • @thelastnoob:

          TH-P54V20A

        • @gimme:
that looks like a mid range so its quite good but not as good as the later panasonic plasmas
anyway i play 4k files on my 1080p plasma and they look very very good especially colours and black levels

        • @thelastnoob:

In a way I'm happy it's only midrange as I'm really trying to rationalise a size upgrade. I also have $2000 worth of JBHIFI gift cards burning a hole in my pocket.

We still use a Fujitsu Plasma lol, the dam thing just won't die
