      Yes, as long as USB 3.0 it will be fine. I have a 1tb that works fine.

    Is this fine to use with TVs? Or are those with their own power supply better?

      Yeah they are fine for TV's, your only thing is that not all TVs read hard drives despite having a USB port nor play all file types.

    What's the go as far as the build of the HDD inside goes (IE standard controller with SATA to USB adapter vs direct to USB controller)?

    Seen plenty of people say it's a standard 2.5", though all mention are 500GB/1TB models.
