Warning: please keep your receipt buying Optus simcards. I bought 20 packs Optus $10 Starter pack from my local Coles, could not activate all of them and they refuse to replace my faulty simcards because I threw my receipt away and thought it would be fine. Optus also refused to replace although I haven't been able to activate any with the same stereotype. Damn!

If you paid by credit card then show them your CC statement.

      • It is just the statement, it does not show any more details.

        • +1

Can't you ask them to reprint you a receipt?

        • @PW:
          Is this possible?

        • +1

          @tkd8558:
as far as I know, they are bound to provide you the receipt afterwards upon request. so you gotta try your luck.

        • @PW: Do they have an obligation to do this, if weeks/months have passed? Let us say, you have a credit card statement showing a spend there. Would be really good to know.

        • +1

If you scanned your flybuy card, they should have the record of what you purchased. That is how they send email to customers with targeted products.

        • @benx:

          scanned your flybuy card,

That's right. You need to provide evidence of your purchase.

        • +2

shouldn't matter. do you have flybuys? Coles will have a record on there of what you bought (why do you think they have it :-).

How many didn't work? you can always buy the same amount this time & use the receipt to take them back saying they won't activate.

Had the same issue happening to me a few days ago. Could not activate SIM Card and Coles wouldn't refund me because I threw away the receipt.

    • do you remember "gift card activation" or something like that on your receipt?
It needed scan long bar cord to activate the SIM like iTunes card.

      • I did, it is mandatory.

I had a similar problem with Coles bought Optus $30 kits for $10 from the 7th Sep Coles catalogue. I bought 10 kits from 3 different stores. Opened 1 which had SIM validation error when trying to activate online. After chatting online, they told me to call them during business hours to get it fixed. Person on the phone couldn’t help and told me to go in-store instead. Went to 2 different Optus Stores. First one refused to fix or swap for a working SIM and told me to go back to Coles to get my money back. The second one told me they could port me over to Optus on a new SIM but without value. They told me to then call Optus myself after activation and attempt to get Optus to credit $30 into my new SIM. This could have taken days. The other option they offered was to go back to Coles to get a refund.
I took all 10 kits to my local Coles today to get a refund and they refused, citing their Returns Policy on the SIM cards, which is, they do not refund on these Telco products without an official letter of authorisation of return/refund from Optus. Luckily, convinced the Manager citing Consumer Rights but he would only refund those purchased from his store. And now I’ll have to do the same lengthy process at 2 additional Coles stores for the refunds. Both Optus Stores told me that they had several customers visit them with the same problem I had which were bought from Coles. After the very poor support from Optus and refusal to accept the ownership of the issue, I’m staying away from Optus.

      • I bought heaps but haven't started using them yet. Lucky I kept all the receipts but I'm having trouble deciphering the receipts.

Coles prints each sim as individual items on the receipt but I can't seem to correspond any of the numbers to specific sims. How did you know which sims were from which stores?

        • +1

On the same line as 3rd Party Gift Card on the receipt should be a set of numbers on the left. That will match the barcode of your SIM pack. Just match the last 3 numbers.

        • @Krissy81:

Thanks mate. I am hoping my batch just works. Not really looking forward to the headache of getting Coles to refund.

    • I had a few that did this and it wasn't the kind that you activate to get the value, it was the older kind. Only paid $5 each last xmas so wasn't overly pissed but still dodgy.

    • +1

      Why did you buy 20?

      • I'd imagine so they could get 20 months of discount phone service? Or maybe they just use them as wall decorations?

    • Had the exact same issue with Vodafone instead and BigW. Vodafone were very rude and refused to help. BigW were at least willing to help and eventually got a refund but yeah the receipt is required. I say take a photo everytime. I have sworn off Voda after that experience - left a very bitter taste.

    • Apparently that happened to a certain batch of Optus Sim cards that were released on to the market (probs also why they're at a promo $10 rather than $30).
Same thing happened to me, except i got mine from Woolies. They seem to be much friendlier than Coles, and happily replaced all 5 of my faulty sim cards, even without the proper receipt (i just had the credit card statement cos i chucked the actual one away long ago).

    • Crap. I bought a bunch of them during sale too and threw the receipts already. Hopefully none are defective sim cards.

  • The Tim Tam value packs are cheaper than Costco!

    • +1

That wouldn't be hard. Costco is expensive on a lot of their lines

      • +1

local lines they're expensive (they don't have the buying power yet).
Just look at beer, local stuff it expensive, impoerted stuff is very cheap (& tastier then the local 'made under licence' crap from CUB, etc).

Am I seeing a trend? Some items will go 1/2 price at Woolworth, and then next week immediately followed by Coles going 1/2 price. Surely not a good move. Wouldn't people have bought from Woolworths already? E.g connoiseur ice-cream 4-6pack, which is currently on special (same price) at Woolworths.

    • +6

I say, keep on keeping on - cannot get enough of Connoisseur ice-creams ;)

      • +1

Can't believe despite tips from OzB members etc, I have yet to locate Matcha Green Tea flavour.
Why bother making a flavour that is so elusive …

        • +1

Agreed. Looked in 3 WoW stores and can't find that flavour anywhere.

    • +1

I see that trend too! Usually on those expensive Brie cheese from Tasmania that goes for about $10. $5 at Coles one week and woollies next wekk🤔🤔

      • +3

So far the items I have noticed are consistently woolworths, then coles. Not the other way around. Of course, I don't pay attention to items I am not buying, so I could be wrong.

      • semi-off topic but are those brand name brie cheeses much better than the homebrand ones for $3?

        • +1

Um….I am abit posh. I have never bought the home brand ones. Also I don't have much of it (a wheel last us for like a month) and part of me want to support the tassie farmers?? And yes I know it might not go to them but still….

        • +1

@Faithgrrl: Ah that's fair. I'm the opposite, I can go through brie/camembert wheels in a couple of days, so I'm always going homebrand. If I paid $10/wheel at my consumption rate, I'd be broke lol.

        • @Uncharted: no harm in trying for an extra $2! For me, the better quality the food, the less I eat of it. So that works for me….maybe it's real or maybe it's all in my head though….

    • -5

      Surely not a good move.

You decided that after imagining a trend 10 seconds ago based on memories pulled up to confirm the trend your imagining. Do you really think that's enough to be better than Coles at price setting?

      • +1

Well, we could track it…but I have better things to worry about, such as my bathroom leaking 😫😫😫😫

  • Sandhurst Pitted Kalamata Olives
