They were like ~$314 shipped a week or two ago.. I would just wait another few days and they will definitely go below $300

    • Hope the price drops soon, my nexus 5 is on its last legs

  • +4

Can get it from DWI now for $344 with ANNIVERSARY16 coupon + PayPal surcharge = $350.19 if you wanted it now, or wait for another deal as stuhtb mentioned.

  • +2

Yeah no question this should be hitting sub-$300 very soon.

  • Yeah, from outside AU, that's not cool. If it came with domestic warranty and GST to be claimed back on TRS I'd be ok with this price.

  • Agreed. Post Pixel announcement we are going to upgrade to 5x but not willing to deal with offshore warranty. Onshore warranty was hard enough.

  • What's the advantage of having this phone rather than pixel except for the price difference?

    • +1

Availability of cases and accessories maybe? But really no advantage apart from it being 1/4 the price.

      • +2

        I prefered your "None" response.

The Pixel has better hardware. Software is the same, but the Pixel will definitely get the next version of Android. Can't say the same for the Nexus.

new one costs around 1K mark…google's lost the plot..

    The prices will go up.

I bought my wife a Nexus 5 just when the far more expensive Nexus 6 was released, and even though the Nexus 5 was being discontinued, the Nexus 5 price did NOT go down. If anything, it went up as there were many, many people who didn't want the much more expensive Nexus 6.

I think this will happen now too, if to a lesser extent. The new phones offer nothing really compelling over the 5X and 6P (more storage options, processor, slightly better camera) so many like us will be taking up the remainder of the 5X and 6P stock because of the huge price differential.

    • Yup, agreed there. Im still reeling from the pixel prices.. i guess google is just joining the apple party.

      • Sounds like pixel costs more than the iPhone 7s that dicksmith were doing for $999.

        • The rrp for the new pixel phones is identical to their Apple counterparts. I think Dick Smith are run by Kogan now and sell grey imports, which is why they are cheaper than in store prices.

    • yeah +1.

I've just bought the 5x from buybuybox for 350 delievered for the wife.

I dont expect the price to drop much more, these phones will be in high demand now that ogole has lost its mind with the pricing on the pixel.

I paid 750 for the 5x on pre order when it first came out ( wife got my nexus 5 cast off ) and i recon its worth every penny. its a 700$ phone in the marketplace still.

Plus, Ive just "saved" ~ $1000 so i can wangle a new 50" 4k screen out of her :D

  • Hmmm probably take the drop on this in case prices don't come down any further. Definitely want AU warranty stock… Pretty disappointed with Pixel pricing as well, so not going to wait and fork out that much cash for a phone.

  • Hey everyone, thought I'd share my experience with getting a price beat from Officeworks on this phone. Maybe a bit long winded, but thought it might be of interest.

I'm in VIC, and yesterday I went to Frankston, Cranbourne and Narre Warren Officeworks stores. In all cases, I asked if they had the phone in stock first (all did). Then I asked if they could price match http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au (currently $359). They all took a good long look at the site, and all eventually realised it was a store warranty only, and couldn't price match due to it being a grey import (I played dumb the whole time)

Today, I went to Dandenong Officeworks. I asked for a price match before if I asked if they've got any stock. The woman helping me ended up checking stock levels and they had stock. I asked if they could match http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/ (currently $343). She realised it was grey stock, and said she couldn't do it. I then asked if she could match http://www.allphones.com.au/ (currently $378). She didn't find any problem with the warranty info on the site, and then called the local Dandenong store to see if they had stock ā€” they did. At that point she said she could beat the price, so she grabbed the phone and rang it up. It was at this point she realised the model on http://www.allphones.com.au/ was only 16GB version, and therefore not the same model so no price match. As a last resort I had her check out dwidigitalcameras, but as you can guess, she was pretty onto it and figured these to be grey stock pretty quickly, and I walked out empty handed.

I was heading elsewhere and ended up coming across the Officeworks at Keysborough. I went in and asked if they could price match www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au first ā€” no luck, the guy figured out right away it was grey stock. I then mentioned www.allphones.com.au, and he was familiar with them ā€” "All phones? Yeah we should be able to do that". He found the phone on the site, saw the price, and didn't bother to search the warranty info on the site. He also didn't realise the specs were different on these models, with allphones selling the 16GB and officeworks the 32GB. He ended up ringing it up, I go to pay and I couldn't find my debit card (!). I was going to have to go to the car to get it. He was walking back to the computer to probably take a closer look at the allphones site, when I found my debit card in my pocket. I paid pretty swiftly and got out of there.

All up with the price beat I payed $359.10, which I think is great for Aus stock with Aus warranty. Have been looking for the price cut post the Pixel announcement, but got a bit tired of waiting, and like a few people have speculated, demand for these should be pretty strong considering the Pixel's underwhelming reception and premium price.

Anyway, moral of my story being that persistence (and a little luck) is key!
