        • @Level380: I've only done some cursory googling, but it looks like 900mhz is the 2G network, not 700mhz? Also band 17 operates on 700mhz. If telstra are pushing out more 700mhz 4G from freeing up 2G, do we know if it's band 28 or band 17?

        • @salem: According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_frequency_bands both bands are 700Mhz so I guess it would depend on what Telstra is rolling out. It, however, doesn't change the fact that band 28 isn't the only band that LTE operates on here and there's no plans to change that, as far as we the public are aware.

          So, while band 28 might be a deal breaker for some (if you are in rural areas or even if you just want it which is perfectly valid of course) it's not essential in order to get LTE service in Australia and doesn't make this an overall bad deal, just a bad deal for individuals in the circumstances mentioned above.

    I'm interested in the camera, it boasts 2xSony but I can't find any specs around it.

    Does anyone know if this shoots in 1080/60p ? Seems like a simple ask yet many new phones don't support it. One reason I'm still using my Samsung GNote 3.

    • It is Sony 1200W IMX378 F2.0,support 4K 30fps,720p/1080p 30fps,720p 120 fps

      • You are wrong my friend, this is the sensor in Mi 5s not Mi 5s Plus.

        • Yeah the Mi 5s couldn't do 1080p 60fps. I'm hoping theres a different camera in the PLUS which can. At a guess it's probably the same old camera though.

          @Click_It: Mi 5S could do 4K 30fps,1080p 120 fps,720p 30fps and 120fps
          Mi 5S plus 4K 30fps,720p/1080p 30fps,720p 120 fps

        • It is my bad.maybe is Sony IMX258

        • @Roger75: Yes it is Sony IMX258.

          @SpaceNinja:

          Okay looks like the Sony IMX258 can do 1080p/60fps which is good. Now to wait for global ROM and I'm in.

  • What's the massive obsession with band 28? All I ever see is people whinge about it.

    • +8

      Because many Telstra 4G towers only support B28 in more rural areas.

      Yeah me too i don't see what all the fuss is about. Perhaps a lot of them are in remote areas in Oz

      I just see people argue about b28 and always wondered.

      I live in a rural area and haven't had issues with my redmi note 3 …

    Just remember when you're buying it that you're spending $500+ on something that doesn't come with an Australian warranty. Just thought it should be noted.

  • Any review on Mi5s camera performance?

  • I bought this for my dad and used DHL. Arrived today. Does not have google play store. Assumed it was a global rom, but is not.

    How can I set this up to be as user friendly for my dad? Help pls! I don't want to be a 24 hour help desk support for him.

    • There's no global rom for it yet. It's why I haven't ordered one yet in sorry to say.

      There will be tutorials for installing the play store online I'd think

      • There's apparently an app in the Chinese app store to install Google play store (pretty sure it's not Google endorsed, but what are they going to do, re-un-certify them?)

      • I ordered a Mi5S Plus from TOPMALL after seeing this (~$15 more expensive at the time but includes a headset, a basic protective case, a tampered glass screen protector, and pre-flashed. I have noticed the seller listed here has since updated the listing to include all of these too except the tampered glass protector). It arrived yesterday, and I am glad to report that it appears to have been flashed with a MIUI 8 global stable ROM! (or at least it checks for updates automatically)

        Here is the link to the product:

        • There no global rom yet, possibly just has gapps installed in English

      • The biggest problem is some apps/settings are in Chinese, so have no idea what they are or do. I guess I will just try to get the Google Play store on first into a working state and reflash with a more English-centric rom later on.

          I know it doesn't help you now but always in the future, Google the model of the phone and "global rom"
