  • Tablet has gotten really positive reviews and would have considered this if it wasn't for buying the Z3 compact in the recent sales for $299 (and this is a more powerful tablet).

    • +1

Your tablet has 3GB of RAM and I am sure SHEILD has only 2GB of RAM.

        • +1

Only CPU performance which you wouldn't notice unless you play some hardcore mobile games on it.
Having extra 1GB of RAM allows you to open more apps and run your system faster overall. I reckon it is better than having a slightly faster CPU.

        • @motor89:
          Cool. Thanks for the info!

@Qmar: Also, your Z3 tablet is water resistant, i use my Z series sony stuff in the bathtub, watch some movies and chill(cook) in the spa.

      • Does the K1 get Android 7? I know the Z3 tablet compact won't (I have the Z3 compact phone), not via official builds. Of course you can install your own builds, but in my experience those unofficial builds often have battery drain issues, and you have to worry about correctly backing up the Sony DRM keys with the Xperias.

        • I am not even sure K1 would ever receive Android 7 update. Nvidia promised that Android 6.0 update by the end of 2015, yet actual update was done on Feb 2016.

VAT removed at checkout brings the price down to UKP154.72

      • +2

wait what? the OP posted the normal ex-VAT price as a bargain???

        • +1

Seems that way. Would have been around the UKP125 mark ex-VAT & delivered

Have been using this for ~2 months, and think it is very good for the price. Screen and sound is very good, runs quite fast, and has an SD card slot(!).Can play full-fledged PC games on it if you have an nVidia card on your home desktop PC.

    • Just wondering how you would rate the screen to something like an iPad ?

      • haven't used an iPad in a while, screen on this is excellent quality, much better than my Nexus 7

    • Can it read eXFAT SD cards?

      • not sure about exFAT cards, but i have a 64GB card on it almost permanently

Do you have to have their controller or can you play with xbox controller? And if so will an xbox controller work with all the apps. I have enough controllers dont need any spares.

According to CamelX3 it was 30£ cheaper 3 weeks ago at £140. 20£ cheaper 2 days ago at £150.

    http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/NVIDIA-SHIELD-K1-Processor-Add…

If I was going to buy, Id set a price alert for next time it drops to £150.

  • This device has issues on 5.8GHz WiFi.
Channels above 36 or 40 something (memory is vague) do not work at all, are disabled in firmware by design.
Nvidia refused to explain why, assume it is related to some region issue.

Gaming on 2.4GHz is questionable, never got it working to a point we found satisfactory.

Shield controller uses WiFi, we had considered running Sixaxis to use a PS3 Bluetooth controller but needs to be rooted.

Overall despite issues it performs really well as a tablet and the Android experience is close to stock, with little bloatware.
    1200p screen is great too.

This or the Xiaomi in the other deal for 70 bucks less. The Xiaomi had a QHD screen

    • I want to know the same

    • pretty sure most Xiaomi tabs dont all come with GPS.

      • So no Google Maps ?

        • Yes google maps, but not as accurate placement and maybe no turn by turn navigation, which is fine by me.

    • How many GB was the Xiaomi?

      This is only 16GB.

      • 64Gb. Main issue with Xiaomi was o ly runs kit kat

        • Can you put another ROM on it?

        • @lostn: haven't investigated myself but community says no

  • I have one of these dedicated to use only with my phantom 3.

The only issues i have is it's really hard to see the screen outdoor.

  • This is a good price. Usually $270-280 delivered.

Writing this comment on my Shield tabletb and would highly recommend. Very little bloatware, good performance.

Replaced my Nexus 7 (2013) whose digitiser was failing.

    • +1

I have the same digitiser issue. It was the ribbon cable underneath the back cover causing problem. I managed to replace that cable by a same pitch space cable. Trim off the extra pins on one side of the cable will do the trick if you only manage to find a cable with more pins.

  • This or the Xiaomi Mi Max 6.44 inch 3GB/32GB for $281.30. It has GPS of course as well as 3G/4G (no B28). And lots of sensors. More ram, more storage.

Will be using it only as a tablet, ANd generally not take phone calls on it.

Which one would be better to replace a nexus 7 2013.

I'm also buying a 10+ " tablet.. maybe an iwork

    • bought this to replace Gen II Nexus 7, much better IMHO
