Thanks OP. I actually booked it last week, didn't have any of those special AMEX targeted offer though on my card though. Still cheap!

I wonder if this is going to be an once off sale or they would have more of these kinda sale in future…

    CC is 1.3% surcharge, regardless VISA/AMEX/Master - http://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/schedule-of-fees/au/en

I'm sure there'll be other sales down the track. What I found interesting in the press release was this…

Passengers with tickets on Jetstar’s Melbourne-Narita flights for travel after February 25 will be re-booked on Qantas.

        Lucky for them!

        • +1

I'd prefer the Jetstar service to be honest. Left just after midnight and arrived at 8am at Narita which gave you the whole day. New Dreamliners. Flew it a couple of times and it was fine.

        • @dazweeja:
Yep, the new Melbourne direct flights are breakfast flights meaning you lose the day on the plane. Also, it's on the new Qantas pack them tight as you can seat configuration. As a short person, even I find them cramped!

Using momondo, I found I was able to book via STA travel for $731.xx return.

        • @dazweeja: Not sure what you were smoking but the 9 aisle 787s are literally the absolute worst experience you can ever have in an airplane. Im not even talking about those middle rows which are nightmares on its own. I'm also below average in weight and i can still feel those armrests squeezing my waist.

      • I saw that too!! Wonder how everything is going to work out, meal-wise, entertainment, etc. Going to be interesting!

I have a Business Max ticket booked for late March which I paid $2100 each for my wife & I (Business Class on JQ + points, luggage, etc). I got a call last week and was advised that my ticket had been moved to Qantas and they will be honoring the class and I'll still be in Business Class. Hopefully all A330's will have been upgraded to the suites by then and my wife & I get to enjoy them =)

@Cyphar: Nice! Hadn't known this, though I guess it makes sense to do so, wonder if the non max people got transferred to QF business as well. Also it'll definitely be all refurbed suites by then, enjoy!

        • +1

@Cyphar: all the a330 are done now I believe, even if they aren't the Japan flights would be a priority for the new fitout planes. Very nice product in business class.

        • @bangbang:

I believe any J seat in JQ got upgraded. The only benefit I had over those that didn't get the bundle is that they are honoring the additional points & SC's I would have gotten over a standard QF flight plus an additional 5k points for the inconvenience. I'm not complaining at all =)

        • @ChickenTalon:

Good to know! I've been lucky to get them a few times travelling to Sydney and love the suites but being only an hour in length, it's never long enough to enjoy properly.

      • Hi @tightarse, do you reckon I should jump the gun on this deal (I'm from sydney) or should I wait for a sydney to japan deal; i'm looking at flying mid year 2017? thanks

        • You won't find prices this low to Japan with Qantas any time soon. Do it

        • @Cyphar:

          Thanks for the reply
But for roughly $900+ all up to get to Melbourne etc. I'm sure I can find it cheaper right?

        • @frutter:

You can but not on an Full Fare Airline. It's a great price for Qantas.

        • @Cyphar:
Qantas may be full service, but their recent planes have significantly reduced legroom in economy, with less room than Jetstar or AirAsia based on recent flights. As a short person, even I notice the difference.

      CC is 1.3% surcharge, regardless VISA/AMEX/Master - http://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/schedule-of-fees/au/en

you can get around the surcharge by purchasing a $50 gift voucher, then using that + credit card for the booking. There is no surcharge payable.

      • Oh cool, didn't know that, well, I bought 2 tickets, was only $20.80 extra on top… next time it is!

Mixed payment like that - would the CC travel insurance still covers it I wonder…

        • +1

Westpac's CC travel insurance stiuplates that you need to spend $500 or more so as long as you meet conditions like those you're all good.

  • Thanks TA! Might be the destination of my yearly overseas trip. I fell in love with Japan when I was there in 2013. Shame I already used the Amex offer for this year's overseas trip (on the day I had in mind to book my flights!).

  • Shame I already got my flights with jetstar via cairns for 700 :(

  • Does it mean, there will be no more cheap (Jetstar) return flight to Japan?

    • Mayyyybe, but if there is, you're going via Cairns or the Gold Coast.

I thought the $350 return I paid for my trip this year was too good to be true :/

    • +1

This is replacing the Jetstar direct route from Melbourne which ends in February. Now there's a Cairns stopover. There'll still be specials but maybe not quite as good.

  • Can anyone advise business class fare rules when travelling with an infant under 2 - is the infant still free? Can business class accommodate an infant with a bassinet?

    • +1

Yes, infant under 2 is still free in business class.

Bassinet availability is based on the plane. But if there are bassinets available in economy, then there should be bassinets in business class. The bassinets are also bigger in business class.. ;)

      • Thanks race

  • pitty it wasint Brisbane ….
