E*TRADE: Bonus 10,000 Qantas FF points for first trade

40

Great offer for Qantas FF collectors as it gives your points balance a handy boost.

Earn 10,000 extra Qantas Frequent Flyer points when you join E*TRADE via the 'Join Now' button on the Qantas site (see link) and complete a trade within 60 days of joining.

I personally prefer bonus QFF points instead of $XXX free brokerage offers as the time frame to use them is usually too small (only a month or two?) - few people are likely to use it all up.

Remember to join before 30th June 2010 to qualify. New E*TRADE accounts only, sorry to any existing customers.

Additional Info from my experience:
- There is no max/min amount for the first trade required to qualify for the bonus QFF points.
- If they can't verify your identity, you need to send in copies of ID verified by JP or similar as part of the joining process
- Opening an ETRADE account will also open a particular ANZ bank account used to hold funds for your share transactions. No account keeping fees and no transfer fees if you use ANZ Internet Banking.
- E
TRADE can work out cheaper/more expensive in brokerage fees than CommSec depending on the value of your trade (they're $3 more expensive for a standard internet trade but allow up to $30,000 of trade before impose a %fee structure whereas CommSec allows only $20,000 (from memory) - link to their brokerage fees https://invest.etrade.com.au/RatesandFees/Default.aspx

  • 10000 points equate to approximately $69 (ie., 10000/145. unless you get a very good/cheap awar flight seat). With the brokerage of about $30 for each trade, you do not make most out of the deal. May be useful for people planning to open an E Trade Account.

I don't recommended people taking out this offer if they're not interested in doing at least one genuine share trade.

As with your view on the value of QFF points…
I never use my points except to redeem international award flights because I see it as a waste otherwise. My only points redemption so far was six months ago, I paid $1300 for a flight for my partner which I also booked for myself for 60,000 points + $350 tax.

  • i prefer commsec $600 free brokerage, i can have free 15 pair close trade.

only 12 trades (max or $600 whichever comes first), where each buy or sell is a trade.
