Lenovo are probably clearing out their Skylake-based E560 to make room for the new Kaby Lake based E570. They seem to have a special on the i5 upgrade which I think is definitely worth the extra $50.

As usual they offer a FHD IPS upgrade (from TN HD) for $120.

I'd probably also go for the $17 wireless-ac upgrade to a proper 2x2 channel card (8260)

With the SSD option, I'd faster go for MSY's $188 500gb Samsung 750 instead of Lenovo's $200 256gb drive. A guide is available to aid you in changing it out.

The OEM-fitted HDD is apparently 7mm according to the system service parts. The DVD bay is a 9mm style so you can probably get a "2nd hdd caddy" in 9mm to reuse the OEM hdd in the DVD bay.

The E560 is a 15.6" laptop with a dedicated number pad. This could be useful for the likes of accountants who work with numbers a lot.

Major ports: 3x USB3, VGA, HDMI, RJ45. 2.3kg.

Ships in 6-9 days. Make sure you click the green button to activate the coupon, typing it and clicking apply doesn't seem to work.

  • Can you keep the hard drive and install a SSD ? I think the newer E570 can ???

    • It depends.

E560 does not have an m.2 ssd slot

E570 sometimes has an m.2 slot

You can replace the standard SATA HDD with SATA SSD and keep the HDD. You can turn it into a portable usb hard drive.

If you want, you can probably get a "9.0mm" adapter (I thought the standard was 9.5mm?) so that you can mount the HDD in the DVD bay.

      • Hi OP,

"You can replace the standard SATA HDD with SATA SSD and keep the HDD ", do you mean the laptop can have both SSD and hard drive, both inside the laptop ?

For E570, one can configure hard drive plus the SSD, so I presume it has two slots. But E560 can only choose one of the two.

Pls correct me if I am wrong.

        • On the E560 it appears there are two places for drives:
          1. HDD bay
          2. DVD bay (using an adapter you can mount a 2nd hdd there)

Some E570 have three slots for drives:
          1. HDD bay
          2. DVD bay (using an adapter you can mount a 2nd hdd there)
          3. M.2 bay

Personally what I would do is remove the E560 DVD drive and put the HDD there using a 2nd hdd caddy. I would then put an SSD in bay 1. I would carry out a process similar to this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J56yj8_QHVM

    • IMO your link is a better deal

    • They're different.

Thinkpad edge are tougher and more business orientated (with the trackpoint). It's also got a numberpad which will be nice for some. It's got a traditional external battery.

Yours is an Ideapad which is intended more as a home user laptop which is a bit lighter. It's battery is only internal. Yours has an i7 though which is a faster CPU overall but is more expensive.

I suggest you also look at this E470 deal
