i've always wondered whether these things would cook the roots
I have these and they are doing great. No visible wear after being in the garden for 1yr.

i'm sure it will help in a cool winter. i'm not so sure about in a hot summer. i suspect anything planted right along the edges might not do well. steel gets really hot in the sun.
at the moment i've just mounded dirt for my raised garden beds (i've got a lot of them). next time i see a house being re-roofed i will grab a heap of sheets and cut them up to test.
