  • Sigh… what's the normal price?

  • We still have a couple of older Oricom audio only units with talkback and temp monitor - perhaps 6 or 7 years old now - which have had regular use. Our kids are older but they sleep upstairs and us downstairs plus my wife has hearing issues. LCD on the front is half dead so you can't read temp and settings can be hard to navigate but the audio is just fine and there's no need to fiddle. These units were rated highly and I certainly liked them. Their replacement models were not and many reported they would die much more quickly and the warranty process was a pain.

Reviews for this one mostly suck too:

A baby monitor is one of those things that needs to be set and forget. The only reason we tend to touch it is if we want to talk back. Anything you constantly have to fiddle with or reset is just stressful.

  • we were investigating these for our two year old when he moved into a "big boy bed".

ended up buying one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Foscam-FI9821W-Black-HD-720P-H-26…? which is just a 720P night vision web cam. There's a stash of baby monitor apps for ios / android that hook into it. Has two way audio and has worked brilliantly.

    worth considering

    • Do those apps wake your phone if the camera activates?

      • the stock foscam app sends a notification on either visual or noise event but we dont bother. if we were using it for our 6 month old i would

  • I found setting up an unused smart phone as the camera with an app, such as Alfred, worked just fine for us. Nowadays I use it as a security and pooch camera.
