This is my number 1 favorite wash. And I've used them all…..
I still follow up with a proper wax afterward, however this ensures any little bits I miss have SOME form of coating on it.
Suds up well, removes pretty tough dirt, and seems to lubricate well when using the 'bug remover' side of the sponge.
    Can't praise it enough.

The only product that gets a better rating from me is the ULTIMATE COMPOUND, which is not a wash :P

Depending on what wax you're using, you may be doing yourself a disfavour by using this wash. Most sealants like a clean surface to adhere to without any other wax underneath.

      • These 'all in one' wash and waxes are so thin that any paste wax just sticks anyway.
I use autoglym for the paste wax.
Since they're both a wax, they 'mix' just fine. When a wax touches other wax, the solvents mix them together, no problems.

Everyone has their own method though.

      • I disagree with this advice. When applying a paste wax/sealant most will take following steps. Wash > Clay > Polish > Protect. You have a better chance of leaving polishing oils behind than any wax from the wash.

    • +2

Ideally you would apply a pre-wax cleaner before applying your wax, which would make any wax included in the wash redundant.

    • I don't have a flashy car or sports car so I just use the wash and wax bottles - is this usually not sufficient on the wax front (if you aren't fussed with a shiny look) in terms of protection that gets applied as a result of using this?

      • No one can possibly know what you call "shiny enough".
Yes? No? Its the 'best' wash and wax in one IMO.

If you want shiny and low effort, dry with this as an aide.

It's my go-to for quick shine and its glorious!~

        • I would rather wax my Jimmy…

      • +2

Well I don't have scientific proof but I just question the ability of a product to do two things at once - ie. clean as well as protect. It's like 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner…

One test you could do is the bead/sheet test - see how much water beads or sheets off. If the water sheets off cleanly after a rinse then there must be something there.

Gold Class is my preferred choice

    • Gold Class comes out a treat, and no need to dry the car afterwards as there are no water spots.

      • Really? I might give this a try. So after the wash, you just take it for a quick spin and that's it?

        • Not really, eventhough this is by far the best Wash n Wax product I’ve used, it still needs drying. ExtremeDavo probably has some sort of a water-repellent sealant/protector coating on their car.

      • Wait..what?! This advice is wrong for so many reasons. Always wash, rinse and then dry. Drying can be skipped if rinsing with distilled water or have a similar setup

If you don't rinse you end up leaving dirty water and loosen dirt behind. You also leave sticky soap residue on your car and therefore it becomes dirty again much faster.

Distilled water for washing a car? How friggen rich are you guys to condense enough water to wash a car!?

        • +2

wait what? I usually microfiber wipe down my car outside, but after using wash and wax in one products, I always thought hosing it off with water and leaving it to naturally dry was fine? Apart from glass which I use glass cleaner and wipe down dry to ensure no fuzzies on the glass once driving?

          confused now on proper method?

        • @cwongtech:

In no wait shape or form did I say I use or recommend rinsing in distilled water. I just said DW or another filtration system is needed if your are not going to dry.

I purchase my DW in bulk @ 25c/L so it can be bought cheap enough to wash a car. However, DW and filtration systems are better suited to a detailer. The expense of DW vs their time to dry easily makes it beneficial.

        • +2

          @SaberX:

It is a traditional car wash and must be rinsed. Unsure where you received the no rinse advice from but it won't be on the directions or any Meguiars page. The only time a rinse is not required is when using a Rinseless or Waterless wash. Eg. Optimum No Rinse, Ultima Waterless Wash +, Wolfgang Uber Rinseless Wash, Turtle Wax Rinselee.

They don't usually use distillation these days, usually it's reverse osmosis water passed through an ion-exchange bed, they call it de-ionized water, or 18 ohms water, because pure water should have a very low conductivity reading.
Usually used by labs for experiments.
Make sure you seal the DW, it'll react with carbon dioxide in the air and cause the water to be slightly acidic, not sure how drastic it would be for a car wash but for lab experiments it would affect it.

Not sure how much your car wash DW systems cost, but one machine in the lab outputs what we refer to as "Milli-Q water". Looks like its $300-$400 posted for a used one from America.

          Thanks for the info!

          @4agte:

may have got our wires crossed. For me I wet the car, apply the wash and wax all around the car from top to bottom, scrubbing as much as I can off (I reapply to specific dirt areas once I wash it off if I see dirt/grime that I missed and didn't scrub off due to soap suds blocking view earlier), before hosing off the wash and wax until the car is clean of any product. I then chamois it dry on the paint - although I can't remember why, versus leaving it to dry. I think due to leaving it to air dry vs chamois leaves drying marks??

As it is a wash and wax product I have never then learnt to wax/polish with specific said products.

I then have the glass cleaners for the windows, and the internal dashboard and interior cleaning agents that provide sun protection and clean at the same time. Also got the fabric 'shampoo' for seats but yet to really use. And that about covers all the products I have?

Edit: speaking of this, since I moved to my new house with no front lawn I have been slack and haven't washed the car since 2015 march, I used to do it every 1 or 2 months - so yeah, I definitely have been taking a back seat, time to get cleaning when things warm up.

Air drying leaves water spots on the paint work which doesn't look so great, which is why they recommend wiping it dry

        • @buckster:

ahhh ok, thanks - i must have read that before since I use the chamois but long forgot why!

Guesss it is only a visual thing though and doesn't quite affect the mmain reason I wash and wax in one - for the protection side of things.

haha , ashamedly so :( i will try and get it sorted before summer though with this new guilt trip! :D

    Mr miyagi would not approve.

  • Excellent product if you can dry in the shade and quickly. I find it leaves little wax marks if you're not fast enough on the drying. Awesome result though.

    • Use a cloth to wipe the car after washing

    • +4

You should never wash in direct sunlight with exceptions of a quality Rinseless wash. Washing one panel at a time and keeping all panels wet until the final dry with prevent most waterspot issues

  • thanks, i'm out of the nxt2.0 wash

    time to upgrade

  • Excellent price. No my favourite though as it's not bubbly enough. For the price I guess you can always pour a little extra into the bucket.

  • +1

I'd always used this… I should probably upgrade my choice

      Always used that as well.

    • The new 'Shiny Bottle' TURTLE wash and wax is amazing stuff.
Not even comparable to the old stuff; worlds above, and about the same price.

      • Is this the one you don't need a hose for and you can apply in direct sunlight?

    • +1

That home brand one they sell at coles/woolworths/kmart ect. that is sold next to Armor All at all of the stores, is clearly also made by Armor All.
I doubt it much different and its 3-5 dollars cheaper

  • Is this a bottle of orange juice?

  • +4

If nothing else, this stuff smells amazing.

    • I've been using this stuff for a few years - super shiny result.

I washed the car two nights ago - agree the smell is addictive.

      • Yeah I've recently started using it - been really happy with it.
The car was filthy yet it was easy to wash and looked great when done. Not sure how well the wax performs yet.

  • The product in the listing below this one for 99c works just as good.

  • +1

Awesome product. Didnt really need this just yet, but I got it as a spare now anyway haha

Aaah, time to wash the car.

    Thanks Garffi for the post

Should try boutique car cleaning products. Lots of them actually cost less than the stuff you find off the shelf off SCA.

    • Any suggestions?

      • +1

Look up brands such as Duragloss, CarPro, Wolfgang, Pinnacle, Optimum, Gyeon, Chemical Guys, Poor Boys, Scholl Concepts, Zaino to name a few. Lots and lots and lots of premium car care brands out there.

Go to websites such as zen automotive supplies, detail central, car care products, waxit, prodetailstore. They are all based in either Sydney, Melb or Adelaide.

  • Ok so serious question - how does this compare to Autoglym stuff?

  • Screw this. I use dishwashing liquid followed by hot dripping wax from a candle.

  • I have the gold one. What wax do you guys recommend?

    • Polishangel Goldfinger wax.

      • Once its listed on ozb

  • +2

What I found is that Meguiar's products, like their waxes, usually don't last long enough, it is very good products but they want you to reuse their products more often and at the same time they are selling it for a premium price.

I think the best way is to use a dirt cheap car washing liquid and some nice wax that will stay and shine for months.

    So far, i found

    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/SCA-Value-Car-Wash-…

    Optimum Car Wax: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GG9FI8I/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_tt…

Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002LBKFQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_tt…

    Nu Finish Liquid Polish: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Nu-Finish-Liquid-Po…

Do you know any other waxes that would stay for months?

    • Nu Finish is the worse thing to use, unless u have a old car u dont care about. Its more of a Silicone treatment. Bodyshop will have issues touching up paintwork in future.

  • +4

I'm pretty picky about car care products and these ones that you find in SCA and Autobarn are far from the best. You can find much better products, often more premium, work better, last longer and at a competitive or often cheaper price than what you pay at SCA and AB.

Look up brands such as Duragloss, CarPro, Wolfgang, Pinnacle, Optimum, Gyeon, Chemical Guys, Poor Boys, Rupes, AngelWax, Polish Angel, Menzerna, Scholl Concepts, Zaino to name a few. Lots and lots and lots of premium car care brands out there.

Go to websites such as zen automotive supplies, detail central, car care products, waxit, prodetailstore. They are all based in either Sydney, Melb or Adelaide.

    • So bro, what product would you highly recommend?

      • For easiest application of a wash with hydrophobic properties (real actual beading, none of this wash and wax crap).

        Gyeon Bathe+

Here is a demo video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clDf4xYjQu4

But with that being said, literally any shampoo from the aforementioned brands will be better than everything off the shelf from SCA and AB.

        • Do you use anything special for windows (inside and outside), interial, and alloy wheels?

        • +1

          @jingsu6688:

Personally I don't use much other than normal car soap or Stoner's glass cleaner. It's probably more important to use multiple microfibre towels to ensure a streak-free finish.

Interiors, 303 Aerospace protectant is highly recommended to protect your interior plastic and vinyl trim from UV damage. Einzett Cockpit Premium is a very good interior cleaner.

Alloy wheels, you can use any wheel cleaner that also contains decontaminates iron. Any wheel cleaner from the aforementioned brands will be much better than SCA or Autobarn crap.

      • Personally, I use the Meg's wash listed in this deal, but my other primary wash is 3D Pink Car soap. Cost about $50 but that's for 4L and I've had it for over a year and still have some left. It's an awesome sudsing wash that comes out great on the snow foam.
I also use HD Poxy as a sealant. Very very well priced and superior to a lot of other products out there (IMO) -> And others on various car forums.
Check out detailcentral.com.au and stock up! :)

  • Will this wash and wax be good with AutoGlym Extra Gloss Sealant since I have used the latter to great effect?

  • If you are after stuff that works try Gtechniq C1 and Exo, Tried many products and cant go past Gtechniq. If I could I would coat everything with EXO beads water like anything I ever seen and paint works stays smooth as glass.
