Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset - £479.48 (~ $790AUD) Delivered @ Amazon UK

240

Shows price as £550 in cart but before you pay it should be brought down to £457.50. Also, express shipping is £10 cheaper than standard. Total should come to £479.48.

Amazon US stopped shipping the Rift here, so some guy on Reddit said UK still shipped here. Turns out UK is even cheaper at ~$790AUD delivered.

Only other place to order from right now that I am aware of is Oculus' website which sells the Rift for $780USD delivered, which ends up going past $1000AUD

If the vive was around the same price, I'd be all over it.

After watching this long YouTube comparison video between Rift and Vive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2rRiJe5qPo
I am convinced the Rift is not the right VR equipment to invest in at the moment.

Hats off to HTC for coming up with a better system than the $2 bn capitalised Oculus.

Also Palmer Luckey is an alt right turd.

I have the Oculus Rift headset. I will have the touch controllers in about 6 weeks when they ship. I think with those there is a fairly comparable experience between the two. What made me not cancel my rift and go for the Vive was basically two things.
        a) price (being a pre order I was given free shipping) and although I'm buying both headset and controllers the two shipments let me avoid import and GST making a significant price difference for me.
        b) software - I think the Rift will for the near term (12 months) at least have more complete games and experiences vs cool demos.

Also its not confirmed but I think there is a good chance the rift will be a usable accessory for the new XBOX (scorpio).

When I show people it they are generally impressed. But personally being used to 1440p gaming I find the field of view and resolution low and distracting stopping me being drawn in when using it (vive / rift basically have the same limitation here). I also find the pricing of the VR games high for what they offer (via steam or rift stores). I keep thinking what I have here is basically a dot matrix printer level of tech and in a few years when they jump to a "multi-function centre" level they will be really cool (think wireless, higher def and wider field of view). Hopefully though enough people jump in to VR now to prove the market to get the investment to push to that point.

I had a few VR sets, these are totally overrated and worth nothing.

    • Which VR sets have you had?
