I am undecided if the people negging the deals are actually just trying to keep people away so the products they want to get discounted more or if they have looked at a found a somewhat comparable item at bunnings cheaper and therefore automatically assume that prices have been jacked up and/or there are not any bargains. Whatever the case, am happy for them to stay away.

Nice try, Masters! I was all excited a week or so ago when I went in looking for closing down bargains as you do for all Woolworths touched companies. Big mess, no bargains, waste of time really.

At some point things will be priced well enough to be classified as a bargain. Though someone would have bought it the day before the further price reduction thinking it was a bargain at the time.

There are plenty of bargains, I've saved substantially on all my recent purchases with an average of 40% cheaper then Bunnings.

      • +4

I'm not having a go, but what have you bought? I've been to Master a couple of times since this closing down "sale" started and not found anything id consider a bargain personally. Maybe I was just looking at the wrong stuff?

Last trip I purchased 100mm stormwater clips for $23 (50 pack) whereas Bunnings only sells them in a pack of three for ~$9.

Numerous 100mm and 90mm fittings for half the price of Bunnings. Some other plumbing fittings for half price.

Some paint brushes for half the price of Bunnings and some various fittings for under half the price of Bunnings.

I puchased nothing. 100% saving for me

      Angry comments, right on cue!

    • Preach!

    • I bought 1 of these https://www.tradetools.com/product-range/cordless-tools/batt… for spare for my lawn mower for $223.00 on tuesday. Now I call this a bargain. ebay sells for $477.00 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ego-56V-Li-Ion-Battery-Pack-for-G…

Masters deals are ridiculous. All the available BBQ brands does not have good reviews. The potting mix in bunnings are much cheaper than master (even after discounts).

      Agree

This closing down sale is going to last longer than John Farnhams final tour

    • Amen!

    • +1

So it's gonna come back after it's gone???!!!

      • +4

        Twice.

    • but not as long as Rays !!!!

  • what are plant prices like, is there much of a difference? (i.e. Marked up to discount?).

Can get a boost on my vegetable garden. No better bargain than free :)

    • All that was left at my closest store was some sage. That was when the discount was only 15%.

      • +15

        Thanks for the sage advice

    • We've been grabbing plants and the ticketed prices are the same as they have been, then the discount gets taken from that. No complaints here.

  • does anybody remember the fourty winks closing down sales over a decade ago?

Another Funny Deal by Masters of Comdey

  • +12

It's common knowledge that these xx% off deals at masters are not bargains. I think at this point in time we need specific deals from masters, i.e. finding a particular product that is cheaper than anywhere else. For that reason I am negging this deal.

    • +1

This response sounds like something you hear on "Shark Tank"

    • I agree, without specific bargains this is not really a deal.

    • +4

It's common knowledge that these xx% off deals at masters are not bargains.

Common knowledge amongst the blind perhaps but for many there are heaps of bargains.

Your negative is unwarranted. Plenty of bargains to be had if you actually look and if you actually need something. Of course there are those that just go to sales to buy random crap without a need for them.

      • +1

Post the bargains then as a separate deal and then they will be upvoted.

        • -1

          I agree.

Post the deal or face the wheel

    • +1

I agree too. Without being able to check what is even available let alone the price it's a waste of a trip. Sure they'll have random stuff that they can't shift that's cheap, but it's getting a bit like a garage sale or going to an op shop.

  • +12

I don't understand some of the negative comments. Honda generators were 50% off the other day, as were all generators and the prices were bloody good, as were a lot of other items.
We're in the middle of renovating and have been grabbing some good bargains.
Can't speak for all of their stock and only the stuff we watch, compare and buy, but I personally have no complaints.

  • +5

Put the website back up so we can check stock!

  • what was the discount before…?

    • +1

Plants were 15%, 25% on the +10% days. Some stock in our local were marked down by hand already on the pots.

      • +3

Unfortunately the plants are 90% dead!

        • Sorry to hear that. That are pretty good at our local.

  • +1

What about planters, wine barrels, soil/fertiliser etc? Anyone got any idea on those?

  • Some good fridges and dryers left

    • Be wary of what's left though. Most of them are full of scratches and dents from the trolleys in store.

  • +5

I'm just here to watch people vent lol

  • Is this 30% on top of existing discounts?

  • Any bargains?

  • Can someone who is visiting give an idea of dishwasher availability?

    • -1

Just ring your local stores, its quicker & easier then visiting

      • +3

have you tried calling a store? they haven't been taking calls for weeks. all you get is a recorded phone message telling you to just visit a store.

        • +1

I heard someone up the food chain made the call to cut all the lines to the stores.

        • @tryagain:
I think it's a good thing, otherwise u have someone phoning up and ask if they have dishwasher x , plant y and a drill z and waste the staff members time.

        • +1

@mmd: Yeah, that's undoubtedly the reason they did it.

  • -4

can we ban Masters on ozbargain

    • +1

Yep, on December the 11th. Seriously though there is a minimum of 30% off store wide, that would have got huge upvotes a before they announced their closure, for some reason, people seem to think if a store is closing they should virtually give their stuff away.

      • -1

I think you should read this first

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/270061

        • +4

I have read it, an old ripped sticker that you can't even tell if it's for the same product, still can't believe it made the news. As someone pointed out it had never been that price on price hipster.

      • +2

I was much happy with their sales before this closure sales started. i don't want masters to go, i want them to stay as a competition. It is just that these sales are ridiculous not that percentage is less but because they have marked up their prices

        • Yep, sad to see them go too but the only case's I have seen of prices being "marked up" is items that were on clearance went back to their RRP. I haven't seen any evidence of any other price increases. Some prices with some of the lower/earlier sales meant bunnings was still cheaper on some products but that doesn't mean there wasn't plenty that weren't.

        • -1

@tryagain: are you associated with Masters

        • @sakg: Nope but I have got some good deals, best one was some tiles price on them was $29m for some reason though that I didn't question they scanned at $25m then take 50% off then further 10% then pay with wish gift cards works out at $10.67m as I bought over 100m worth there was an over $2000 saving.

        • @tryagain: rubbish, they jacked up the price of everything first, not just clearance stuff, then offered a discount. Just like DSE used to do before ebay sales.

        • +1

@supabrudda: I have no idea what you're basing that on but it's not reality. Before masters were pulled from price hipster last night you could see their historical prices and see that this wasn't the case. Either you're trying to keep people away from the sales for your own gain or you have fallen for the lie from someone else who was. Feel free to try and prove me wrong on the "they jacked up the price of everything"

        • -1

@tryagain: get off your high horse…read my previous comments on the subject. I'm not the only one who has discovered the pump up the prices then offer a discount I've been going there every few weeks for years. I know their prices and I noticed how they jacked them up with their initial 10% off sale.

You prove me wrong. Good luck if you find a bargain. I notice the car parks tend to be full on weekends, so I'm not driving anyone away. Just stating how they're no different to DSE on the Ebay sale.

        • +1

          @supabrudda:

read my previous comments on the subject

Like the one where you said to ring the stores even though you can't and haven't been able to for weeks?

I'm not the only one who has discovered claimed but didn't offer any evidence of the pump up the prices then offer a discount

Fixed it for you, and just to clarify an item that was on a sale/clearance that ended and went back to the normal RRP price doesn't constitute jacking up their prices.

          You prove me wrong

Doesn't work that way, you made the claim I call BS, it's for you to prove it not me.

        • -1

@tryagain: might want to tick the rep box eh?

One of many who've noticed the pump up the price then "discount" claim.

Go on, admit you've got a vested interest.

        • +1

@supabrudda: Hahaha you seem to like your baseless assumptions, no I am not in any way associated with masters. Even if I were I don't see how that would change any of the facts of the situation or why I'd want to go into bat for a company who is going to give me the flick just before Christmas.

One of many who've noticed the pump up the price then "discount" claim.

Can you offer up any semblance of proof?

Go on, admit you've got a vested interest.

The only interest I have is in correcting some glaring inaccuracies.

  • I have been to Masters in the last few weekends and it's a shamozzle. People are ruder than staff.

    • +6

      This.

Guys please don't be rude to the staff, they might be the sole earner in their families and what not, so they're probably more stressed about their future compared to you looking for an absolute bargain. Please consider them instead of venting - I understand you're annoyed at the lack of 'real sales' but that decision isn't made by the staff…

  • How are these discounts any different from what they had last week ? I was in the garden section 2 days ago and it was 30% off, and this says 30% ?

Some of their "original" prices are horrendous. They had a Hitachi 24cc petrol blower with vacuum attachment (3 year warranty) for $459, less 25%. I bought a Husqvarna 125BVX 28cc blower with mulching blade and vacuum kit (5 year warranty) for $269 from a local mower shop on Saturday - go figure.

    • It seems that they increase the discounts on a Wednesday and they base it on stock levels and sales as to what increases and what doesn't. That seems to roughly translate to roughly half will increase one week and the other half the following week.

  • Got a electrolux oven model evep615sa for $400. THanks masters.

  • Any good BBQ's on sale?

  • The things I wanted are all gone.
    Lighting, tapware, and insulation

  • Any digital door locks in Perth..

  • I bought a digital lock today in Perth.

    Customer service was shocking…

I understand that a lot of customers are disgruntled. Not the staffs fault that this fire sale is a disgrace.

BUT, when I asked what is the price for this lock it was more or less, have a look at the shelf yourself. The shelf was all mixed up with items in the wrong spot etc.

Next question, why do you want to know the price…

Answer, I guess because I am interested in buying a digital lock and I would like to know the price…

End of the day, I guess I had a good deal.

    • Where did u go?
Such a pity you cant use the store system to check stock levels

      • I don't want to disclose which store it was, no excuse but I can understand that staff are stressed and frustrated. They are loosing their jobs.

I am a forgiving customer in this case as Woolworths stuffed things up by bringing in a US company to handle the sale.

The staff are the ones left to deal with customers frustration and in many cases anger.

I did not react to the staff member's anger as my primary aim was for a good deal, which I had.

I told the staff member, there you go, I bought a digital lock after all..

Always better to respond than to react.

  • No Wednesday increase this week?
